Article 1(3) of the CBN Act 2007 states ‘In order to facilitate the achievement of its mandate under this Act…the Bank shall be an independent body in the discharge of its functions,” but not independent on the formation of policy, which is included in the Exclusive Legislative list, which is within the purview of The Federal Government.

Or can The Central Bank of Nigeria, just go and print money without the approval of the Federal Government?,what President Buhari gave is an executive order, any food importer that takes offense should challenge it at any Federal High Court, which they will definitely lose.

Maybe what you meant to say,is that the Federal Government cannot interfere with decisions made by The Monetary Policy Committee,i.e.,(interest rate).
You get time. The CBN must even revert to the ministry of finance before making some policy, it's also statutory for the ministry of finance to have rep in the MPC, yet some are just saying nonsense.
So if the administration wants a policy that mops up fund in the system, our CBN go form independent and dey release funds through its policy abi.
There is no absolute independence for any CBN anywhere in the world.

This belief that "Mr President and Nigeria owe you nothing" is the main reason Nigeria is like this. We don't expect anything from elected representatives. That's why a when a governor does a very small stretch of road, people beat drums and make merry, because such act is almost akin to charity. We don't expect anything from them. So why did we vote them in in the first place?

Look at the way the youth of a country is reasoning. That your president doesn't owe you anything. You don't find such inane statements in first world countries. No. The citizens expect so much from their elected leaders, that's why oftentimes they resign, if they can't meet up with you demands of the people, making way for other people who can deliver. It's not welfare mentality. No. It's not like they won't work because they have a good government. No. But the government has to put things in place to make things easier for the people. It's so easy.

The Government owes me a lot. Anyone who says otherwise is a compound fool.

Go and pay your tax and hold the Governor of your state and local government accountable, before you talk of the President.

Constructively, I think the President has good intention because there lots of agricultural produce that we can produce or cultivate in this country that we import. However, I think such decision should have be made strategically and in consultation with relevant stakeholders.

Having said that, you can make your points without calling the President a terrorist. I believe a level of decorum should be exercised.

I agree totally with your assertion,a lot of these kids, don't know that it is shocking to a commoner in the western hemisphere, when he hears that they import food in Africa, with all the green vegetation and good climate everywhere, simple staple rice they cannot grow, ordinary herding of cattle (ranching) is like rocket science.

he can appoint but not order the CBN governor on what to do , even the CBN govt cannot take a decision soley ,CBN is an autonomous institution, or are you looking forward to where a president can wake up one morning and order the CBN to print N100bn for him ??are we in a banana republic??

Can someone not elected, but selected by the President, and serving at his pleasure,be truly autonomous?

Just in case you may not know, the Central Bank takes instructions from 3 spheres,Executive Orders by the presidency under the purview of the Exclusive Legislative List,Decisions of The Federal Government,(including Acts of The National Assembly, and decisions made by the Monetary Policy Committee.

Mumu president no clear cut policy direction in Agricultural sector. Herdsmen are killing farmers everyday and the only thing going on in that your small head is to ban forest for food importation. A dullard is always a dullard

I agree with his policies in the agricultural sector especially rice production he is not doing bad at it but security wise heck no

the only issue is how to get Nigerians appreciate rice produced in NiG

I think they should set up a task force that would check shops still selling imported rice and also check the grains to be sure it has not being disguised and if found guilty, such goods should be seized from the retailer, fined and charged of smuggling

if smuggled rice is not bought or demanded, rice smuggling would stop and locally produced rice would be appreciated and bought

He has put the necessary things in place to promote rice production if you don't agree that means you have not being paying attention

The only rice I see in Nigeria are those smuggled from cotonou, I still can't see all this rice you are talking about.

That was how you ban forex on 42 items when you came into office and plunged Nigeria into depression.

Now you want to ban forex on food and milk, then give people going to mecca excess dollar. Then give criminals billion dollars for importing fuel.

Nigerians time don reach

Exactly O! Time don reach for Nigerians to demonstrate their Anger!!!

What this government is doing is distasteful.

So, bias in everything, and so myopic in understanding of the people's plight.

Who is happy while suffering!? Look at how the Youth are killing themselves unnecessarily due to economic hardship and the worst is the crazy dirty daily news of Killings, Kidnappings, Herdsmen this herdsmen that, Suicide here and here is just enough to make the fickle minded to take their lives.
We must be very prayerful and very cautious in the news we even open these days before BadNews Induced Depression sets in.

God help my people in Nigeria.
Amen.

With the response I see on this thread , I confirm today that many Nigerian youths are truly empty handed and mentally lazy.
FYI there was a time in this country when yoghurts were imported into this country but today the best and real yoghurt products in this country are locally made.
I see someone said , the president doesn't have the right to tell CBN what to do. Very funny!
I swear, I read up to this point to see if I can see any meaningful contribution.
Somebody is still saying Buhari put us into recession by banning 41 items.
I don't support this government, but we the younger ones have to be reasonable.

I'm afraid how the youths in this country think. I'm not a fan of Buhari, but this time he is very right. How can we be spending our scarce forex on importing foods we can grow at home. Can't you people think, necessity they say is the mother of invention. If Nigerians cannot grow her foods then let them starve. If you can make your food at home at cheaper cost why spending your scarce money to buy food outside, this is simple logic.
God bless you, every Nigerian should be able to grow some of the food they eat. There was a time almost every family fry their own garri at least

ask the people selling those smuggled rice that you want to buy local rice if its like a bag or more they will get it for you, the reason why you are still seeing smuggled rice around is because we Nigerians we are so fake to the extent that we believe anything produced in Nig is no good thus no demand for it but if the measure put in place to curb smuggling is made strict we would have no option than to start consuming it and continuously demanding for good quality

besides shebi you say u wan buy rice and u asked me to link you up I am still wsiting

Don't mind the children of hate, they desperately want Buhari and Nigeria to fail. That will make them rejoice.

Are they not ashamed we used scared dollars, which we get only from crude sales to import food like tomatoes, sardines, apples, fish, etc and other foods we could easily grow here.
My mum just a few days back took some ewedu to London and she became an instant celebrity among here peers.
