ednut1:How does any Nigerian migrate or get to the US/UK/Canada illegally? I don't think there's any. What I sense is that some Nigerians will apply for either the visiting visa or student visa to travel legally to these countries. However, what happens is that when they get approved of the visa they travel to those countries legally but along the line they now overstay their legal presence in these countries... that is when they become illegal or better term to use "undocumented immigrants" in those countries. |

Madlov3:Let me ask.... which is worse... the Black man not helping his fellow Black to get up?....or.... the Black man who keeps pulling down his fellow Black man? You may not realize it... but you are in the second set. Yes there are China Towns... Little Italy...etc... communities of people from the same place .. where recent immigrants usually stay first until they get up to speed with the new society and branch out. Why conveniently leave out African Nigerian /African communities? Don't you know they exist abroad?...just like the others? Or is it you are bent on putting down the Blackman? And those residents are not there to encourage others to come join them. You need to change your mentality and stop helping others to put down Blacks. Now on the topic.... what exactly is discouragement?... what is enlightenment?... are those abroad discouraging others from migrating?... or enlightening them about the pitfalls and misconceptions? Let me put you in the same boat as those abroad. What advice would you give someone who has a profitable business in his village... lives very comfortable... but wants to sell out everything and move to Lagos?.... hoping to work very hard to make it big like so many others there and be driving Mercedes? What advice would you give to him? |

CanadianNaija:are you sure you read her post well before jumping to conclusions. from my understanding, she meant she wasnt sure you can travel illegally, (maybe through fake visas and all), that ppl travel through short stay visas(i.e. tourist visas or student visas) and overstay then automatically becoming illegal or undocumented. emphasis on "illegal" |

megastu:The thing is... if they know what they are getting into.... have things set up in Lagos.... no problem encouraging them to venture out to make life better.... but to tell them to come and hope for the best is seen as encouragement.... the same kind encouragement that have soooo many.... and more coming.... living in squalor under bridge. |

I am not against people travelling out of naija.I think people should get acquainted with recent immigration laws in whatever country they wish to migrate to inorder to avoid immigration embarrassment. |
| Re: Why Do Nigerians Abroad Always Discourage People From Traveling? by nlPoster: 4:15pm On Aug 20, 2019 |
Some people want to test the system and its laws, so they are not really about legal immigration like that. My problem is they need other people (stooges) to help them achieve these goals. The stooges often end up discarded and damaged/destroyed after. |

[quote author=Madlov3 post=81365677]Over time, I have noticed that Nigerians abroad will always want to discourage other people from traveling. Anytime you tell them your plans of traveling, they will start giving you long epistles. If indeed there are no green pastures abroad, why not come back to Nigeria? Please come back and rebuild the country. For me i think it’s black man’s mentality. An average china man that travels to America and makes it will ensure at least all his town people who are Intrested in coming over get settled abroad. Little wonder why you have China towns in most developed countries. Same with the Indians. Nobody can discourage me, na money still dey Bleep my plans up |

Oga travel first then you go know. I am surprised people that has never leave the shores of this country will be making stupid remarks. The Nigerians abroad that cautions you about travelling, are the once being sincere. Madlov3: |

Lemme tell you my own story I have a very useless uncle And a useless aunty too. The uncle works for Texas department of Insurance. I sought for jobs 5 -6 years in Nigeria I didn't see. Money wasn't coming in, nothing. My life was doomed, I didn't have anywhere to go. Did few deals in the past, made some proceeds and did a passport. Since then, all doors closed in again. I asked my uncle to assist with just a letter of invitation, he said I should call one of my aunties, I called my aunty (imagine calling the US and spending over 20mins on phone, and I didn't have a job, I'd help my father to help in his shop, the small change, I'd use it to buy units and call overseas.) they all kept joking with me until this my aunt said, she'd make findings and see how I could come. This is 2019, and it's almost ending , she made that Idiotic statement since 2017. Today, it's a different story. I warned my mom never to ever call them on phone and speak about anything that concerns me to them again. They now saying, they don't know why I'm angry. Uncle works for Texas department of Insurance , aunty is a senior Lecturer for University of Texas, Austin. Her first son is US Army and a very senior officer. All US citizens. I thank God, I wouldn't be needing their help for anything in this life again. I've even deleted them from facebook. They go about telling people that I'm bad , angry and I'm a rough person. Until when some heard my own side of the story... Tables has finally turned. I don't depend on any stupid relation overseas. Bunch of useles people one should never rely on. |
