Aboy if you no get APL e mean say you no get APL, nothing more nothing less.

You do realize that there was a recruitment in 2014 that was truncated after there was a change in the seat of power right? What would you say happened to the budgeted funds released for that recruitment. Baba, as long as you do not know the criteria used in selection and distributing APL you cannot assert that it is based on Merit. I want you to know that. If you want to know what a transparent process is, CBT scores would have been sent to you, cut off would be known. The list that is ready would be visible. In that way, when names are swapped people will know. But all these are unknown. If they swapped like 700 names from the list you wouldn't know sh!t. Even people that have connect will be telling you to pray. What does that tell you? That a lot is going on beyond what they can see and/or control.

At the end, like i always believe, whoever's destiny is designed to work at NNPC would.

Calm down joor. Does Total, Exxon Mobil send CBT scores to show their transparency?

Una too do over sabi in this country. Yes there would be some level of influence but merit is the bone of focus here.

How a company runs his process cannot be judged transparent or opaque because your idea of transparency is relative.

They have not signed anything from my source. The person said that they have the list already and the list is not the final. It will be adjusted to suit the new management interest. APL might drop by middle of September and GT will be to 3 months training school.
He is not a kind of person i can ask to check my name for me, he believes in merit. I heard from another person that some staff are helping candidates to check their names.

This is very true. .
My class mate was shorlisted in 2017 after the test for training but he did not make it to the final after the training @DSSC Navy. I also did the test but i was not shortlisted
The guy is from Osun (Osogbo precisely).
So, again, he applied 2018 and was still shortlisted, i knew because we could all see the list online....then i met him ealry this year, when they had not gone for the 2018 training, and asked him what happened that he didnt make it to the final in 2017.

He said "Dont mind those people, see that list you saw the shortlisted candiates was just for the public. You can't imagine they brought in more guys outside the shortlisted list and most of those guys made it to the final.

But he also has a strong man too, just maybe the man was not "strong enough" to make him get to the final, but just to be enlisted for the training.

I was confused and amazed at the same time, but i still didnt get it until, i left Osogbo and got back to my place.
Having informed someone who i know, like a big uncle (In Navy), about my application and that my name was not on the list. He became worried and was assuring me something could be done.. ..after i saw the list myself and my name was not there o.

I guess he could not help it.
But again, during my IT at one of the Naval bases, i met a very good woman, she was like a secretary to the Oga. I also told her about my situation and that i would be trying again the following year.
She then started making some calls too to Abuja, as per HQ, and called me one evening that a man would call me soon , that i should go and buy my kits for the training..that i would be joining them for training....it was then i understood what my friend told me in Osogbo. So things like this happen even in.milirary!!!

Alas! The guy didnt call me.

Opinion needed
Firstly, my apologies for discussing something other than nnpc recruitment here.
I recently attended a job interview based on referral (the job was not advertised). Towards the end of the interview, as usual, I was given an opportunity to ask some questions. I decided to ask that they give me an overview of the job responsibilities. That question did not go down well with one of the panelists. To him, it was an indication that I came to the interview without knowing the responsibilities of the role. Although I tried to make him see reason that since the job was not advertised, I couldn't have had the opportunity to go through the job description, he still didn't seem pleased with the explanation.
Please, I would like to have your opinions on whether my question was fundamentally wrong the way the man tried to make it look. Until that very moment, I was of the opinion that an interview is meant to be an opportunity for the interviewers to get to know the candidates better just as it is for the candidate to get to know more about the job and the organization.
Uncle Jarus and others with experience on interview coaching and recruitment should please give local man their opinion as he is presently confused.

P. S the only prior information I had with regard the interview was that they were looking for people of a particular profession say accountants, economists or mathematicians which I fit in, hence my invitation to participate in the recruitment.

Unfortunately, if I were on the panel, I would also be upset. However we look at it, it is not a good decision to ask about what the job you are interviewing for, entails.

It's a fundamental error and it will take very strong performance during the course of the main interview (ie your earlier response to technical questions) for the error to be overlooked.

The interviewer doesn't have to have another candidate to be turned off by that question.

You made an awesome submission boss. However, I think it doesn't warrant the interviewers to be upset.

As the OP stated that they did not previously inform them about the JD prior to the interview. Also, even if they had given the description and responsibilities to be performed by a candidate, it is not out of place for a candidate to ask what the day to day responsibilities of the job is because it gives the candidate a better perspective of what he can expect in the role and it also allows them weigh their strengths against what a regular day on the job looks like.

I am of the opinion that many Nigerians who make up interview panels are not trained for it, that is the reason many of them lack judgment and allow bias in their selection.

OP, you weren't completely wrong. I'd advise that you compose the question in a different manner when next you're faced with such a situation.
Good luck.

Thank you oga Jarus.

It shows you did not research about the job role, even though you did, that question proves otherwise. But no worry, you go scale, just careful next time. if things seem hard, use the usual cliché, "what's d next stage, when can I start. etv

Exactly my thoughts
Probably in your case, you did not see the job description on any advertorial. But what is described in the adverts are always enough and exactly what the recruiters want you to know at that material time

Let me rephrase.

In the case of the person that asked the question, the job was based on recommendation as there was no advertorial. He should have at least asked the referee the nature of job or browse. Nothing wey Google no Sabi.

On a general note, not particular to the person asking the question. It is not right to go asking a panel what you are supposed to do on the job. It gives off an image of someone that did not go through the job description before applying (I.e where there was an advertorial). In fact, during interviews, you are to answer questions like someone that fully understands the job descriptions and you are cut out for it.

I no dey too like right long speeches sha. Jarus sir any suggestions?

I dont agree one needs to see the advert or be told the job description before one should know what a job entails. All you need to know is the job title.

A financial controller does generally the same thing almost everywhere. Ditto for a tax manager, an accountant, a marketing officer, a reservoir engineer, a procurement officer etc.

For someone to recommend you for the job, that means you have the qualifications (an engineer wont be recommended for an accounting job). So from the job title, you are expected to know what the job entails.

If you don't know, you should have googled it - eg Job description of a procurement officer. A simple research on the internet will get you that.

I will also be turned off if someone asks me that question at an interview.

There was no advert but the candidate ought to have asked the referee the position he is being interviewed for, so that he can research the JD. It is called being proactive.

The candidate was like an army personnel directed to gear up and go into battle without him taking time to find out if the war was in Sambisa or Syria. This also brings to bare what questions were asked and how well the Candidate answered considering his 'ill-preparedness.'

'Las las', the question he asked at the end was, for lack of a better expression, "embarrassing". However, if truly it was a non-published vacancy, then a slap on the wrist should be enough considering the surrounding circumstance of the job post. Let them not throw the child away along with the bath water. I am sure of one thing though, it has negatively affected his chances but the real question is by how much? Pray the other panelists weren't so interested in the main panelist's criticisms but in the candidates's overall performance especially for a GT position. It is unforgivable for an EH.
