Op your write up is purely your opinion. It is only an idiot that would go abroad to get a degree just to come and land a job in naija. Your abroad degree gives you international experience, exposes you on how to interact and collaborate with multinationals, exposes you to latest in technology and how to conduct independent study, most importantly how to make logical arguments and present your information. There are other benefits. You cannot compare the efficiency of someone who schooled abroad and someone in Nigeria to a job, they are miles apart. So dont judge the quality of a degree from the point of getting local jobs but what impact it creates in the economy. Afterall it is not their fault that Nigeria rewards mediocrity.

It's quite obvious you studied abroad. Spot on

I'm currently an international student in the UK and I can tell you for a fact that the difference is too clear.

It's almost impossible to remain the same if you studied abroad. Although, personal development is very important.

Schooling abroad doesn't mean that you become more efficient than those who schooled in Nigeria.

After obtaining an MSC from a top Nigerian University, I can tell you it was a complete waste of time. The bulk of what I know is still from my Bsc days.

I have also seen people with multiple foreign degrees remain unemployed for too long. Besides the foreign exposure, an average Nigerian with a foreign degree has good job as a top priority. If such job fails to come the investment in foreign degrees can become a regret.

Okay, he believes he's identified a problem.

What's his proposed solution, or does he just want to say something negative about Nigeria?

I didn't see correlation between your first two sentence and the rest. Because you said that only idiots go abroad to get degree and come back to Naija just to land a job. The rest of your writeup told us the benefits of studying abroad but failed to tell us what to use the certificate to achieve or get when returned back to Naija

Myopic write-up. The author wrote as far as he could see, and it is obvious he isnt seeing beyond his nose.
I have met Nigerians at the start and end of their foreign post grad studies, and the difference is huge! You will see a medicine related graduate who cannot handle basic lab equipment, or even still using mouth to suck dangerous chemicals up a pipette. That is why they struggle so much in practicals when they start abroad.

The op wasn't the writer. And the writer is a professor but wasn't myopic. It is you who failed to comprehend what the Prof was saying. The Prof didn't say that there is no value addition to studying abroad (not Ghana's containers Universities o), he's only saying that the job market is saturated and that employers would employ son (with the Nigerian first degree) of a man who has connection instead of employing you who have second degree from abroad

You people need to read and comprehend things better, the op never said Nigerian certificates are better than foreign ones, what he is trying to say is that with your foreign certs you are are not guaranteed of a good job in Nigeria.

My dear I work in a multinational. Ur assertion that schooling abroad enhance job efficiency is not only wrong, it's delusional.
Schooling abroad is a privilege and while it broadens ur views and horizon as per travelling, a smart fellow will always be more efficient and innovative regardless of schooling experience. Meanwhile, I did my project management in Switzerland after graduating from a private university in Naija, here I work with UK university graduates who still have to learn from Nigerian graduates. Schooling abroad may land u a better position, but efficiency in discharge of duty, is a quotient of intelligence

Dear OP, this is purely your own opinion and one side of the matter. Truth be told, you haven't set foot in a foreign university that is why you made such a submission. As much as i agree with you that in Nigeria, a foreign degree has little or no edge over a local degree purely due to few opportunities available to all. Largely, a foreign degree still has an edge over local because your market now expands beyond local reach. Lets say i have an MSc from the University of Manchester in the UK and you have same from any nice Uni in Nigeria and we both apply for a multinational employment. Guess who would be recognised first. Yep, i thought as much!! If you know your onions, you will not be dragging job in Naija. Get a job relevant to your profession no matter how much it pays. Learn the ropes for a year or two and look for an international job. End of story.

I will suggest you try out a short course outside of Naija especially in the UK even if for a week or a month and then come back to write this essay again. The difference is clear. You will hardly get such tutelage anywhere in Naija.

if you read well, I correclty replied op's degrading of foreign degree due to Nigeria's labour issues. Do you know how much foreign degree can impart on you? If you put ideas into practice you would create jobs. That mediocrity and nepotism pervades the country is not a reason to cast aspersion on a foreign degree. If you go to abroad and you don't know what to do with your experience then your case is dire.
