A visually impaired Nigerian man has shown that there is ability in his disability.


Though not seeing, Jibrin Isah Diso rose through the academic ladder to become a professor. He is the first man in the country with such impairment to read his way through to the enviable position of a professor.

Professor Diso is the first visually impaired professor in Nigeria. Legit.ng gathered that the academic was born blind but he never allowed that to get in his way of achieving success.

The professor has being a role model with his rich profile to both people living with special needs and normal people. He is said to have more than 10 publications to his credit at the faculty of education, Bayero University, Kano.

I doubt his academic journey has Nigeria educational system with it...

Even people with four eys never get masters degree.

Some disabled are far more reasonable and intelligent than the so called "able" people.

As an academic, I commend this man. I know how difficult for those with eyes to do research not to mention those without. To accomplish this feat, this man must have been diligent, patient, intelligent, committed and motivated. I am happy about this. In many universities, he would have been fired or retired on medical grounds. I must also commend his employers for encouraging him.

They said more than 10 publications. I believe he must have met the minimum requirements. Even if he didn't, the fact that he is visually impaired and he has published some papers is quite interesting and should warrant some measure of special treatment. Again, it's also not by quantity at times but by quality!
