Valentinooo: you've a point, "not trained on the relevant things". This means there is need for overhaul of our curriculum. But for example electrical/electronic engineering curriculum for HND / bsc don't have this new and relevant courses like Arduino programming, Raspberry pi ,programming robot, if these courses are introduced who are those to teach these courses since lecturers are not skill in these areas. |

HeyCorleone: You said it all. How many companies are in our country. Thank God for the reform in the banking sector if not unemployment would have be doubled. Just imagine that ajaokuta steel company is functioning, we have like 5 automobile companies, 1 aeroplane and ship manufacturing company and able to to access loan for business. etc do you no the kind of job creation that we would have but direct and indirect. The truth is our government are the problem they are dream killer,. No matter how you think positively and ambitious to believe in Nigeria and make it they end up killing that dream. I use myself as a case study. Had a little business I was into, as at 2014 it was going fine. Was a distributor of one Maggi company, the business what moving smoothly. The company supplies the product to me on credit, I sell and pay them due to the fast payment they increased my supply, business was moving smoothly. My plans was in the next 3 years would have raised my own capital, to further invest in other business. Not until 2015/16, due to the increase in dollars price of goods sky-rocket, people could not afford to buy the goods again. The company could not afford to sell on credit because dollar was not stable. Within a twinkle of an eye my business crashed. Government have alot of role to play. I am not saying they should employ move civil servant or increase people on npower pay roll No. They should just creat good policies, make loan accessible. Then watch how Nigeria economy will boom within next 10years. Government policy is everything, no nation can survive without good policy and stable policy. 3 Likes |

LordFaraday:This forum has gone to the dogs for many years now, it’s not a recent thing. The owner of nairaland, seun osewa is either sleeping or deliberately allowing the site to become a dumping ground for rubbish contents. It’s quite unfortunate because many foreigners are on the site and they are seeing Nigeria in bad light as a result of this. |

Elijahrona: You are funny . Is it collecting loan with high interest and starting up a little provision store. At the end of the day the business would crash because of too much credit from your customers (who are mainly salary earners been owe for 3 to 6 month salary). My dear if Nigerian where not thinking and struggling without government help Nigeria would have been like Syria long time ago do you think an average Nigeria care about government. Why things are like this is because it is now worse. The little we have been doing for ourselves government have succeeded in killing it. As you can see crime has tripled. The only thinking that is really what it now, is living this country. This is the only one you can archive without government killing your dreams. 2 Likes |

Op, as an employer of labor, I will say the biggest reason is the attitude of the job seekers. Some of us are ready to teach the necessary skills if they lack it. But these days, we have job seekers whose attitudes are nonchalant, lack basic formal communication skills, think the workplace should serve as an extension of their social network, are overly emotional, very unethical and with unreal expectations. |

Everything listed by the OP is correct and many more. Nigeria is drooling in her own mess and shitss. I could remember in my 4OOL as a computer science student, I saw some course mates of mine who couldn't operate any programs in a computer..Well will you blame them? when they have never set foot in the comp. lab before and can't afford one. It was by the grace of God and my extreme measure that I became the software engineer I am today. So many loopholes in our educational system and it is not going away anytime soon. 1 Like |

Beside all these aforementioned reasons, the government at all level Should make up with the promises they normally give people during political campaigns, as regards to employment. If every state Governor, Local Govt Chairman and legislative member would at least establish a cottage industry in his or her area, do you know how many industries we will have in this country? I don't see lack of skills as the problem, cos most companies employ workers and send them for some months induction so as to enable them perfect in their area of duty. 1 Like |

I always thank God for the Technical school i went to. Right before graduation day, recruiters from NNPC, Nigerian brewries, Nigerian Army, Julius Berger, Nigerian Textiles and so Many more were hustling for candidates although as junior staffs. Those of us with no one to sponsor us into higher institutions signed up and today, we are slowly climbing up. I just pity most of these engineering graduates from nigerian universities that come for I.T in my place of work. Ask them to bring you a ring spanner, gauge 12 electrodes or even a philips screw driver and all they will do is shine their teeth while guessing by picking up different tools 1 Like

wacuc0: No body is telling the government to spoon feed the citizens. You mention of people not investing in country have you asked why. What is the meaning of government. Why is it cheap to refine crude outside the country than in our country. Why is imported goods cheaper than local made. Why is it so easy to import but very very difficult and complicating to export. Is all this fault of the citizens? Government is everything you need to understand the characteristics of government. |

chrismex: You're pessimistic, you have no hope for the country again. For me, I remain optimistic and hopeful... My positive mindedness and thoughts are enough to keep trying. You should try to remain hopeful too. BTW you can always start a business without borrowing... Start as small as you can and build up. You must not start big or on a medium scale. |

[quote author=uckennety post=81779945] Oga your totally wrong That illiterate welder can't pass ielts exam needed for Canada immigration That illiterate can't fill Canadian Immigration form or is skilled at field problem solutions Finally he can't express himself and will have communication problems in canada That's why Canada will never let him in! Op have you ever wondered why this unemployable Nigerian graduate who has no skill go aboard especially Canada, us, Australia etc and they make it? Until you figure that question out we will talk! In aboard there are jobs for the educated, uneducated, skilled, unskilled, professional, unprofessional But here in Nigeria bricklayer hardly sees work, painter the same, graduate same thing As a mass communication graduate I v to start somewhere right So I can build my skills Alot of branches of mass communication and things I can do but no job If not for the season poultry and clothes business Since graduation in 2011 ooooo I know that I won't even v data and phone to reply you Op pls accept that we v a failed system! Nothing is working except nepotism, favoritism, tribalism and corruption! Why I put this up is because I have not seen an Hausa/fulani graduate unemployed for 9yeaes like me! @ the bolded you are very very correct.....I was born in the north and schooled there,I love the Hausa's because they help each other in getting jobs, they help to lift each other up,they practiced love among each other and that is highly commendable....sorry to say this most well to do ''other tribes'' especially Christians only do eye service love but hardly help one another in getting jobs if that person is not their own blood, this is just the sad reality. Presently there is a Hausa neighbor of mine currently doing NTSC but a woman has offered to get him job in immigration immediately he is through, note that the woman is not his relation at all. May God help us in this country o |

Elijahrona: Sure am hopeful and optimistic on my dreams and goals but hope for this country no I don't. There is nothing to be hopeful in this country. When you hope on something you keep expecting more from it. My hope is on me my family my dreams and goals. We are on our own in this country the early we know the better. The country has failed. I'm happy you still believe in the country as for me I don't. There are two type of people that still believe in Nigeria 1. The ones that don't have source or financial capability to leave this country so they don't have choice than to accept and believe. 2. The ones that have everything but are ready to fight for the masses. This are the ones that really believe in Nigeria. You should know that the government does not believe in this country it might sound stupid but that's the fact. For me now is when I wake up I pray go out for the days hustle, always vigilant, after hustle get home as early as possible. Go out when necessary, spend on needs until, I get better chance of leaving the country. As of now we are our own pilot. As of what you said starting business small and also starting without borrowing. I guess you are not into business. I would have love to break it down for you but it would be long epistle. All in all let God keep blessing our hustle protect and guide us. As we continue to survive in this country. 1 Like |
