blacKDalia: Until we make MRAP's our standard means of primary transport our troops would not survive such ambush. Come to think of it; 3 light skinned hilux vehicles been ambushed and out numbered. With proper protection our troops could fight there way out through such ambush, until then this type of event will continue to happen. 2 Likes |

bidex111:I've said it time without number using Hilux to convey troops is suicide mission, the thing there is the leadership of the military don't rate the lives of the men under their command or do you think any of them will move even within a military base without an armoured vehicle? If we can't get MRAps at least we should go for second hand vehicles (Humvees) from the US, this is a cheaper alternative and also have a reasonable amount of protection. The vehicles ceased by customs last week is an example of what I'm talking about. We could get this things off the shelf, even the Americans may even dash us sef if we play our politics right they no longer use those Humvees used during the Iraq war. To be honest we're not really serious to fight terrorism because this is a very profitable business for some people within the corridors of power. 7 Likes |

We can source many of these things from the black market. From what I understand, the US places a lot of restriction on arms sales, getting anything from them takes a lot of time(if they even give you at all). Russian and Chinese platforms are notoriously difficult to integrate. Quick procurements like the one done during the tail end of the GEJ administration is what we need. If we can go the Eastern Europe ,Portugal or even South Africa, we'll get good black market hauls. While we wait for the G-to-G heavy armaments in the long term, we can source short term solutions at the same time. |

The Military plying Maiduguri-Monguno really needs to up their game sincerely. Since 2016 till December 2018 that road hardly encounter any Ambush by ISWAP guys and this has made the military in that axis to be quite relaxed. Three weeks ago on that route i saw a miltary hilux gunner enjoying his coke while plying the route. Let me use an example of Maiduguri-Damboa road you can never see a military hilux gunner even blink his eyes on this route. At times if they get to some areas that has high bushes and abandoned buildings they start firing immediately. I think the military needs to do something about the Gajiram to Monguno road with high bushes and deserted villages. If they don't take necessary actions lots of Military personnel will lose their lives especially at that Gasarawa, Ali Gambari, Bulari areas on Monguno- Maid road. May God continue to keep us all safe 9 Likes |

giles14:I know, I was painting a worst case scenario, even a fourth hand humvees is 10 times safer than a brand new Hilux, or Innosons pickup. |

ugo4u: I will want you to know that not all humvees are armoured. The soldiers in Iraq even complained and they had to improvise by adding sheet metal to some of the vehicles. |

SamuelAnyawu: Why don't they blow up the abandoned buildings into dust and set fire to the high bushes to clear them. Beats me, should be the first thing to do after clearing a route. 2 Likes |

nemesis8u: It's raining season the bushes can't lit up unless they are cleared off. I think especially the abandoned buildings on the road needs to be pulled down, but i don't know if the government has legal rights to bulldoze the homes of citizens who ran away because of the insurgency |

Fynline:Waste of national resources if you ask me. South Africa should be saddled with managing such crisis in it's region. Our people need these relief materials more in the North East. And worst of it, these gestures are not properly leveraged or politically motivated, we just dash out stuffs like father chrismas to countries of absolutely no political value to us. Xbee007:Same way they lied that they repelled the attack in Gubio, when infact, BH militants were having a field day wrecking mayhem all over the town. Propaganda should be well crafted, not easily debunkable, and not at the expense of competence. 2 Likes 2 Shares |
