the attack video but how does the terrorist got to know the army were passing .https://twitter.com/Weenybop1969/status/1168242281591267328?s=08

If you spend 30 minutes on that road definitely you''ll see a military convoy. Monguno is the biggest barracks in Borno North supplying LGAs like Kukawa, Marte, Abadam, Baga with military supplies

The Nigerian Army had already downplayed the incident on their Twitter handle claiming several terrorists were also killed with many injured.

Seriously, I don't get why NA keeps behaving like some bunch of pathological liars.

PRESS RELEASE

TROOPS DEALT DECISIVE BLOW ON BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS

Troops of Sector 3, Operation LAFIYA DOLE attached to Super Camp Monguno on Friday 30th August 2019 while on patrol dealt a devastating blow on Boko Haram terrorists along Monguno-Mairari-Gajiram axis. The patrol team came in contact with the terrorists and engaged them with heavy volume of fire that neutralized countless number while a few escaped with gun shot wounds going by blood trails in the general area.
The gallant troops also recovered some weapons and equipment from the terrorists.

Sadly, during the encounter 3 of our gallant soldiers paid the supreme price while 8 other soldiers sustained injuries. The bodies of the fallen heroes and those that sustained injuries have since been evacuated. The wounded are being treated and are in stable condition. The highly motivated troops have continued combing the general area with a view to clear remnants of hiding terrorists.

The Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General TY Buratai, along with some Principal Staff Officers from the Army Headquarters, Theatre Commander Operation LAFIYA DOLE and other Commanders, have visited the troops and those wounded in action.

Sincerely i do not know why the Military are trying to downplay this insurgency issue. I am on ground here and can almost swear that we are losing more number of Soldiers in this warfare than Bokoharam. Sincerely i weep whenever i see Soldiers i have met here losing their lives unjustly. I sincerely don't understand what Buhari an Ex-Military General is doing about this issue.

Just imagine if these guys where in MRAP's, the worst that would have happened is to fight there way through the ambush.
Despite fighting with skinny hilux vehicles; they still manage to inflict injuries on the enemy. Our military authority has to work on our Base defences and proper protection for military vehicles.

They threw a grenade on the 1st car, then used and RPG on the second and the third car they burnt it. Although it was not fully burnt and the Military later towed it to Monguno.

This is the MOD, Bashir Magashi's first operational visit. He meets with troops in Gubio, and says their operational/welfare/admin needs will be addressed and improved.
All eyes are on the new MOD now, to see how much, how well, he will steer the affairs the military to improve security in the Northeast.

Too bad. But one thing is this, no military will say the actual number of casualties, not even the police.
But there's no decisive blow dealt by the force this time around.

No way those hit by the RPG would have survived the onslaught.

When will they listen to voices of reasoning all these years? It was this same issue of negligence and absolute irresponsibility of the top brass that made Beeg to desert his blog and made some of us went AWOL from the threads here.

What will it cost them to procure HALE and MALE UCAVs/UAVs to recon those flashpoints before troop patrol? Tens of LSHs abound that can be fitted with rocket pods, provide CAS for patrolling troops and scout the areas for contact.
Just wasting troop lives and resources. sad

The US and other European nations always state the number of killed and injured they suffer in Taliban and Isis attacks. Even Russia tries to list how many dead and injured it suffers in Syria.

Just curious, the guy looking under the truck with a mirror, is he foolish or what? What if the driver of the truck was a suicide bomber and sets off his load once the soldier is within range?

shocked grin grin
That's the nature of the job dude, his not foolish nor stupid ! You're risking your life and the expense of your other comrades and protection of civilians. Let's agree the vehicle is been laiden with bombs and you detect it; two things would happen either the driver gets arrested or he/she detonates the bomb there. Now imagine if the SVBIED gets to the intended target, what arm and harvoc it would cause.

Even you see security men using the same equipment here in some Embassy here in Nigeria, especially in Abuja and some conflicts zone.

You actually believe that generic copy and paste incident report? wait till they show you one magazine and an AK with claims they all ran away with injuries, even the destroyed gun truck belong to us, how can you be happy destroying your own stuffs? stuffs you claim you dont have enough?
Again if the guys move in MRAPS, BHT won't bother themselves with ambush right?

second hand humvees would not solve the ambush problems. We need proper MRAP and IFV.
Enough with handouts

Sorry people, all of you are right NA needs good IFV in large numbers but likely to never happen because Nigerian Army doctrine does not use IFV, we use APC and soft skin troop carrier, its major weakness of NA, killing so many loyal soldiers, causing endless war. You want IFV ? Change all army leadership, replace with modern thinkers. Sensible Chad has some 200 modern IFV including this BMP-1U upgrade.
