Hmmmmmm. Tho on my way to Maiduguri today there is a location i made mention of earlier, i saw over 100 vehicles of both Nigeria and Chadian forces. I felt like taking pictures but the Nigerian and Chadian forces ain't smiling grin. It was a lovely sight to behold

The points being advocated here are surprisingly noted by the powers that be in Abuja. The response so far to unfolding events at home and abroad as suggested here or regurgitated so far is positive to begin with. Who would have thought so in the last 3 years.

The Federal Government suddenly seem woke and the military is employing new strategies and tactics a welcome development however not being averse to your infos here it would be wise to neuter some of them like troop positions, poise and posture in terms of men and materials. Our enemies are also listening and make deductions from what is being posted here.

Specifically to you, thanks.

Litmus:
From a civilians’ perspective, Super camps invokes images of Forts as containment vehicles informed by Siege-mentality. And while siege-mentality, defined as “a defensive or paranoid attitude based on the belief that others are hostile towards one” may suffice for our situation, shouldn’t Nigeria therefore be seen to spend more on defence including border? This is since the “others hostile towards Nigeria” can only practical fit an endless supply of recruits for Bokorarah throughout West Africa.

If we are not going to buy those aircrafts, missiles and tank that project threat in the eyes of the neighbours, how are we going to persuade them that it is in their interest to prevent their young people joining Bokoharam and the other terrorists groups laying siege on Nigeria’s thin line of defence called Super Camps? This is since defensive encampments alone could never outlast the bottomless cesspit from which Bokoharam draws recruits .

Nice input from you. Evidently salient points noted. I was going to add but SamuelAnyanwu already insinuated with his last post the point: Those soldiers sent out on combat patrols are not joking and ISWAP knows it. That's the line of fire and its shoot to kill. ISR is also employed but how deep is another factor.

I'd just say we may have just woken up. New strategies need time and space to judge its merits and demerits.

Increasing #readiness through training!

Members of the Rwanda Defence Force and Royal Netherlands Army work side by side during convoy operations training as part of exercise Shared Accord 2019 in Gabiro, Rwanda, Aug. 23, 2019. SA 19, which took place Aug. 14-28, was focused on bringing together U.S. and Rwandan forces, African partner militaries, allies and international organizations to increase readiness, interoperability and partnership building between participating nations for peacekeeping operations in the Central African Republic.

Please don't get caught taking pictures you might be labelled a spy reporting troops location to terrorist, it's more safer approaching them as a gentle man and ask for a group picture with them. They will gladly oblige

I actually saw three patrol boats being hauled by trucks in Ore, Ondo State on Monday.

I wanted to take pictures, but the military escorts weren't smiling.

I don't really know the type of boats, but they looked like they were fresh out of the yard.

INTERNAL SECURITY: NAF INDUCTS 20 MORE MILITARY WORKING DOGS TRAINED IN EXPLOSIVES DETECTION, SPECIAL OPERATIONS

Efforts to further enhance Nigerian Air Force (NAF) special operations capabilities have received a boost with the graduation of another batch of 20 Military Working Dogs (MWDs) and Canine (K-9) handlers, 5 of which have been trained in a range of special operations skills including rappelling from helicopters as well as tracking of adversary movements and positions in an area of operation. The graduation ceremony, which took place today, 6 September 2019, at the NAF Base Kaduna, would further improve measures for the protection of NAF assets and facilities as well as critical national infrastructure, like Airports, especially in times of emergencies.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who was the Guest of Honour, noted that upon assumption of Office, part of the outcome of a gap analysis conducted to ascertain the NAF’s requirement for the protection of its assets revealed the need for a holistic capacity development among the specialist directorates charged with security, law enforcement and base defence. He disclosed that the Air Provost (AP), as one of these specialist directorates, has received and will continue to receive attention in this regard, with the development of K-9 capabilies being one of the areas of focus. The CAS recalled how the NAF had inducted the first batch of 20 MWDs with narcotics and explosive detection capabilities. He noted that the import of inducting Special Operations Dogs in the second batch of training, was to provide the AP with the capacity to conduct specialized policing functions in support of the roles of the newly established Special Operations Command.

Air Marshal Abubakar went further to highlight some of the additional steps taken to enhance the capacity of the NAF AP personnel, including the establishment of a new K-9 Wing in Bauchi, equipped with modern facilities for K-9 development and administration, to support the Counter Insurgency (COIN) Operations in the Northeast. He said a full-fledged AP Training Centre had also been established at Kerang, Plateau State, to increase the scope and depth of AP training in the NAF. The CAS noted that another major feat recorded in the capacity building efforts of the AP specialty was the resuscitation of the Provost Forensic Laboratory in 2018, after it had been disused and abandoned for over 20 years. In addition, he revealed that capacity had equally been developed in the area of Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), where 16 AP Personnel each had been trained in Stages 1 and 2 CSI Courses, as well as Train-the-Trainer and Forensic Awareness Courses. Moreover, he said another 300 AP personnel had benefited from the Force Protection in Complex Air Ground Environment (FPCAGE) training conducted by the British Military Advisory Training Team (BMATT).

The CAS expressed the expectation that the handlers, along with their dogs, having undergone intensive advanced K-9 training for 13 weeks (10 weeks of which were conducted overseas and 3 in-country), must endeavour to add value wherever they are deployed. He emphasised that the Service intends to increase its K-9 holding with the addition of 20 more Special Operations Dogs that would enhance the potential to detect, track and provide early warning of adversary positions while also exploiting the psychological effects of dogs on adversaries. “Thus, K-9 development is projected to be a force multiplier to the operational exploits of the NAF’s aircrew and ground personnel that would enhance the security of Nigeria and Nigerians”, he stated. He added that some of the dogs would soon be deployed alongside NAF Regiment Specialty to conduct training exercises on some troubled roads like the Kaduna-Abuja and Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Highways as well as locations in the Southwest of the Country. Air Marshal Abubakar also expressed the appreciation and continued loyalty of the Service to the Commander-in-Chief, President Muhammadu Buhari, for providing the enabling environment for the NAF to keep discharging its responsibilities despite other contending imperatives.

Earlier, in his opening remarks, the Chief of Administration (COA) Headquarters NAF, Air Vice Marshal Kingsley Lar, who was represented by the NAF Air Provost Marshal (APM), thanked the CAS for his vision and foresight in establishing the NAF K-9 Unit in February 2016. He said these had significantly improved security and law enforcement in NAF bases as well as in various operational theatres. The COA remarked that the tactical and special operations training undertaken by the graduands entailed rappelling from helicopters; tracking and navigation as well as first aid and searches in built-up areas, amongst many others.

Among the 20 dogs and handlers who graduated, 10 were trained in explosive detection and 5 in narcotics detection, while 5 dogs were trained for special operations; the first of its kind in Nigeria. The ceremony featured practical demonstration of the capabilities of the Military Working Dogs and their handlers which included explosive ordinance and narcotics detection, tracking and arrest of suspects in simulated built-up areas as well as rappelling of a dog and handler from a helicopter, which was executed by one of the female graduating dog handlers, Lance Corporal Naomi Danjuma. Awards were also presented to graduating dogs and handlers who had distinguished themselves during the course.

They actually attempted to shield the boats with tarpolenes, but the wind must have tossed them open in transit grin

The getting mad part, well these guys are usually sensitive about such things. I wouldn't want them to think I am spying or something.

Please don't try such - taking pictures of military guys in Nigeria. Especially if they are non-commissioned military personnel.

Those evil BHT, ISWAP have many trained local civilian recce spies and few disloyal army fifth columnists working overtime 24/7 finding reporting our troops movements, men, equipment to BHT camp commanders. Nairaland is not their key source. Don't blame yourself for problem you don't cause. Troop patrol positions change rapidly, static FOB, check points are visible to everybody, BHT are not 3 blind mice.

Hiding our gunboats when navies with frigates, cruisers, display them openly as national deterent strategy to warn potential enemy? Our NA Amphi boats, NN gunboats on road to Lake Chad have nuclear ICBM launchers on board to hide?

Nigerian army has no weapon that scares any country having modest capable army. Sadly BHT does not fear us anymore. NA lost deterent type ORBAT arsenal we had in 1988, those weapons now obsolete, no country fears them today.

I am very happy to see new strategy like our Super Camp, but without Super Weapons I really pray it works. How do we win big war with small procurement small money? Is our head small too? We must think big like Angola. Super Camp is very good but not a genius idea, a Sandhurst trained infantry major can figure it out. My prayer is for millions of dollars to be spent on our own NA to equip us like Army of Angola that crushed UNITA insurgency. God bless our Nigerian Army and forgive their sins, amen.
