How can you travel to another country and not read deeply about it, not research? It is like getting married and you not knowing anything about your spouse?

There are no jobs in South Africa and that's why many migrants turn to crime. Despair is what leads them to crime. In the quest to feed themselves, they may approach bad eggs for money and the rest is history. It isn't good to be hungry in another man's land.

To worsen things, it is a gangsters paradise. Crime is quite high. Homicides are very high. Joblessness and an inviting environment for crime make many hungry migrants turn to crime. I'm sure if these same migrants were in the UK or the USA, they'll stick to the narrow path.

You don't seem to get the point. How does hitting back at MTN translate to passing a message across to South African govt? Why should the South African govt bother itself? Did they bother themselves when you slapped MTN with the 5 billion dollar fine? Even if you go ahead and threaten to close MTN down, how does that affect the South African govt?

1. MTN is unjustly punished for something it knows nothing of-

Nigeria loses and Nigerians continue to be persecuted in South Africa. Nigeria is currently facing the prospect of billions of dollars awarded in damages from similar behavior with an Irish firm.
b. South Africa alternatively reciprocates by imposing harsh conditions on Nigerians in South Africa. Stalemate, but Nigerians continue to be persecuted in South Africa, as the Nigerian government has no other leverage to exercise.
c. MTN says enough is enough and decides to exit the market since it can no longer be assured of a stable working environment. Other global investors become wary of investing in Nigeria. Nigeria loses as the departure of MTN and other South African giants adds thousands to the already extremely high rate of unemployment. The loss of revenue to MTN and other South African firms will have little impact on the highly diversified and huge South African economy. Meanwhile Nigerians continue to be persecuted.


Taking it out on firms who have done nothing wrong is not the solution. I know the average Nigerian would love to argue and stand on their point so you're welcome to it.

2. South Africa will drag Nigeria to court? Lol...Just like they dragged us to court when MTN was slammed with fines right? They are already paying the fine. They have reportedly payed 330 billion naira of the fine. So your post holds no water. If they are slammed with another fine, they have no option, than to pay.

5. Global investors affected? Nope.This is simply Nigeria vs South Africa, not Nigeria vs the world, with Nigeria only taking reciprocate action against the inhumanity meted out on its citizens by the host nation, South Africa. Investors are not dumb. They understand. Nigeria still has Africa's biggest GDP. Our solid 200 million population cannot be ignored by investors, it's our strength. Even with all the supposed insecurities in our Nation, tech firms are raking in record amounts of staggering investments.
