ssgi4in1: Good evening good people. I am hoping I will get some help here. Pls this will be a bit a long. I beg you to read. So you can understand better.
My problem started last year April (2018). I was diagnosed with typhoid and malaria. I was started on a course of treatment that involves anti malaria and an antibiotics (azithromycin). I noticed the quality of my sleep was dropping after taking the antibiotic for 2 days. My instincts was that it was the medicine. I eventually stopped taking it but by then my sleep have become badly affected. I woke up a Sunday morning after taking some drinks the previous night at a wedding with one severe type of headache ( I started the antibiotics on Thursday, took on Friday and missed it that Saturday) I continued that Sunday morning. So I eventually stopped all medicine and consulted a doctor friend. By then I had gone two nights with little or no sleep. He prescribed some drugs that was meant to induce sleep and even increased the dosage yet I still couldn't sleep.
Meanwhile before then, I am someone who could be called a sleeper. I can sleep at anytime without stress. I even take naps here and there in my office. So it was strange.
I eventually went to some hospitals and their treatment involved giving me sleep medicines and sometimes it could help me get very little amount of sleep and then it will make me feel very groggy and heavily fatigued. By this time a weird sensation have developed in the left side of my back head (this pain doesn't come and go... It is permanent). After spending some huge amounts I wasn't getting relief until I went to a neurologist. He first suspended all the sleep medications and started giving me amitriptyline 5mg every night ( after few days I started feeling better and had some deep sleep) but still the problem wasn't gone ( head pain and stiff neck).
I was paying about 30k monthly at the neurologists. It wasn't sustainable and I eventually stopped and decided to take my fate in my own hands. I eventually stopped taking any medication for sleep last November.
Between then and now, I have had some good nights where I slept very deeply and nights when I struggled. I have gone like 2 weeks without sleep issues. But still the pain in the back of the head and neck still persist.
Just yesterday I went to consult another gp and his diagnosis was that it was the poor sleep that is causing the pain in the head and neck. But I still find it difficult to believe. I will be having a video session with an Indian neurologist tommorow and I hope he will make a different diagnosis.
My coming here is to know if anyone have had an experience with my case and I would like to know how they solved their problem.
I will appreciate any suggestion that will be of help.
Thank you.
just try and detoxify your system, take more water n try taking more rest. Forget all these visits to doctors, all they do is prescribe drugs. this thing is as a result of the medications you took over time.

Sounds like ur solutions is going to be with a psychiatrist, how anxious are u, do u get any other symptoms , sweaty, heat flushes? You should have stayed on the amitryptyline. Don't worry about getting the zzzzs for now just try and stay calm and stress less. I don't for see anything wrong with ur blood as it is.

I'll advice you look for person(s) who are into massaging, the native method. It's the best method to solve your issue if only you can get in touch with someone who knows it.
I don't know where you are resident but I believe you can get a good one within your location.
What's your most likely sleeping position? Do you use a pillow while sleeping?
Hope you don't have high blood/low blood issues? But if you do have high blood pressure, I'll recommend simple herbs/fruits you can take for such. If its low blood pressure, I'll recommend certain fruits to be prepared by you to take. All available at your reach.

I have encountered a similar experience bt it didn’t affect my sleep tho. Had sm headaches and neck pains which where mostly due to my pillows and sleeping positions bt then it grew worse when I went on a prescribed antibiotic combination which gave me a terrible stiff neck in just 3days, I stopped it immediately and took basic pain releaver paracetamol about 3ce daily, sm massage later on and I was almost good as new. I finished my treatment on another antibiotic that was mild. There are many that can be used and will work for u better.
Luckily I have folks in the medical field so I rarely go to the hospital to meet random doctors hurriedly prescribing any manner of drugs with out knowing ur history or taking into account of any side effects or reactions. U need to be sensitive to what medications u use especially strong drugs always crosscheck ur prescriptions with 1 or 2 other practitioners b4 following it. I’m sorry to say bt am doctors are quacks and Sm are careless or carefree or unnecessarily confident even when wrong.
Doctors with patience are the best most times cos they do better research, work with feedback and get better results.
For a basic malaria typhoid treatment I think it took too many unnecessary antibiotics and expensive treatments and yet no solution till u stopped them. An expensive treatment may not always be the accurate remedy sm even create more complications.
mistacoco2: Am having the same issue right now.. but will advice you to check your blood pressure.
Go back to your/a neurologist, a specialist one He should run some clinical assessment and tests and explore on the pain. He might recommend a rheumatologist and a cardiologist as well. There is no clinical points you stated here that might help. You may need a pain killer, muscle relaxant, steroids, physiotherapy, which is dependent on other background symptoms. Some may recommend soft cervical collar if necessary. I sympathize with you
I hope the doctor or nurse took his blood pressure during the visit! This is basic stuff and the first thing that's meant to be done! But i know how useless some so called professionals can be...no to mention the fact there are quacks out there!
By not sticking to a well convincing antibiotic could result to a serious health problem now or at old age. I really want to help you stay alive and stand fit. Maybe if you don't mind, we can hook up, discuss and recommend a fast remedy to your health issue. What do you think?

Yeah.. My mum is having similar one to this. Except for the stifness in the neck but with madass chronic heheadache and insomnia.. I think she get her stiffness in her legs, she does tell how she can't move her toes sometimes..
But all in all.. It ended being that high blood pressure was the culprit.. I'd advise you go check yours.
I really hate doctors and guess work, they'll let you spend load shit of money for nothing..
I'd rather help with the internet to know what's wrong with.
had gentamycin injection recently and immediately started having issues with sleep. I must say though that worrying about it also complicates the sleeplessness. Try sleeping in the morning after waking up to relieve urself of the headache. Then get horlicks someone mentioned above to help sleep at nite. By the way has ur bp been normal?

My Brother, I think its just high blood pressure causing your stiff neck and headaches.
I'm surprised they did not see this straight up.
Go to the hospital again and ask the doctor for advise on a 30-day combined dose of Amplodipine and Hydrex.
And most importantly, kill that sedentary lifestyle and get a regular dose of heart-pumping exercise!

Hello, having pains in the neck is not new to me .. But what I did to reduce it .. I force myself to sleep in the afternoon .. I wasn't getting much sleep at night .. And still work myself during the day... So what I do is that .. For atleast 2 days in a week I avoid alcohol and force myself to sleep during the day .. I did this for about 3 weeks ..and now the pains in the neck is almost gone .. Sleep can cure most neural mishaps . I wish you quick recovery ..have a great day
Sadly you didnt provide your age. However with the numerous doctors you have seen I would assume your vitals were taken and High blood pressure was ruled out. I am a bit surprised with the quick fix prescription of Amitriptyline. It's quite strange you should be prescribed this. This is a psychiatric medication for mental and mood problems and basically a tricyclic antidepressant. The costs outweigh the benefits. There should be better treatment options for something this minor. These medications are highly addictive and extremely hard to get off from once addicted to.
I have noticed a rush to prescribe these and it's like, Xanax, by Nigerian doctors. This is extremely dangerous
I think you have occipital neuralgia which is quite different from migraine and this contributes massively to your insomnia. The inflammation of the occipital nerves causes poor sleep. Since I do not have your medical history, I would suggest you return to your doctor and ask him or her to investigate a possible case of occipital neuralgia for you and recommend appropriate treatment that suits you
