All these measures would have been perfect if there were no or very few saboteurs in the system. Let them buy the most advanced gadgets in the world and place them everywhere, it will still not stop the personnel that gain from smuggling activities in turning the blind eye or simply engaging actively for financial rewards.
E.g, are there no cameras at our airports, yet we are are travelling, it is right under this cameras that airport personnel take bribes or force you to give them even when you have nothing to hide in the fear of being delayed and missing your flight.
I don't know how, where or when we will make things right in our dear nation

The President's medical pilgrimages to foreign countries are condemnable and if this were to be the topic I would have condemned it unequivocally.

But, may I advise that you learn how to address people seeing that you are promoting your business on your signature; you don't know who your next biggest customer could be. How you arrived at the phrase of "your master" baffles me.

Good luck.

The only thing that annoys me about this border closure is the failure of the government to plan how to tackle the possible effects it might have on the ordinary Nigerians especially,in the area of rice rice supply and distribution. How can a bag of local rice rise up to 17- 18 k from 12-13k and you are telling us that you are discouraging snuggling .How you want to address the distribution chains we don't know . Shouldn't a sensitive and sensible government considered this before the border closure ,? Seems they don't care bout us .

How does 2017 news invalidate the claims that Togo ,Benin, and Niger buy electricity supply from Nigeria and they re heavily owing .

bro, this is not theory. It's practical. Locally produced rice for now will be very expensive because we don't have enough to go round and Nigeria being a country filled with corrupt and opportunistic people will experience a hike in the price of the available little.

Now imagine the Federal Government leaving the borders closed for another 3years,...lemme remind you that any business that brings in good money in Nigeria will be 'flooded' till the business crashes or becomes less profitable. What I am trying to say here is that, with the kind of money farmers will make during this period of border closure will encourage many more people go into farming...and before you know it, there will be more than enough to go round...and before you know it, farmers will be struggling to get people to buy their own...

Bro, this is beyond corrupt Nigerians. It's a natural thing. The price will crash.

Please don't respond to people that don't know anything about wealth creation

I use to support this regime but I have to reconsider my support for Buhari .Seems they have no plans for the common man
The children of the rulers are graduating from foreign universities , the leaders go there for medical check-up , they wear foreign clothes and shoes ,etc .Can't they ban all these too

Your point on big brother Africa and South Africa/ US examples have no logic in this context. Firstly, the rice exporters know most of the rice exported to Benin is for Nigeria. Secondly, the importers are investors, importers and business men in Nigeria.
Thirdly, a bag of rice in Lagos now cost between 18K and 19K per 50KG bag while Derica tin poor man buys between 220 and 250 naira now cost between 350 and 400 naira and still increasing. This is the imported rice price and the only rice in traditional local / open market. In South West, South South and South East Nigeria where I spent months on local rice availability research, there is no Lake, Olam or any other locally produced rice in the open market. Coscharis may make rice available in the East but not yet.

There is no GLUT in the rice production sector in Nigeria, no availability in the market. The President, NSA and Customs CG are all from the Nigerian Army, I think the Staff College, War College and NIPSS courses in those days were very defective about management.

I also noticed the inclusion of Niger border closure is just a camouflage. I don't want to dwell on that today.

South Africa is too developed to be affected by economic policies of the front line States. The US concerns herself so much about the welfare and wellbeing of her citizens. US cannot ban importation of rice to protect Arkansas farmers or rice mills in the US when there is a shortage.

You cannot see the rice because the main traders rebag the rice with foreign brands lol

Go to Daleko in Mushin to see what they do to rice. Hopefully, this closure will rejig things.

you say there isn't enough locally produce rice to go around that's why it's expensive, right. Now since there isn't enough to go around why didn't the government wait for there to be enough to go around before they close the border.

Think about it, there isn't enough local rice to go around and it's expensive, now that the border is close what do you think will happen to the little local rice that is around? The price will triple and who will bear the burden?

There are business that brings in good money that will never be flooded because the capital to start it is something else.

The federal government is making a very big mistake with this move. I hope you know the price of chicken have gone up now?

Because the price of chicken and other local products have gone up if your brain is working then it will be the reason for you to start making money by rearing poultry and farming rice that they easiest way to make money

Our government again with its foolish, knee-jerk, cart-before-the-horse actions & reactions. Those in govt are not thoughtful enough to find real solutions to problems but find it easier to just take blanket actions like banning things.

Ban Okada, ban forex for 41 items, ban forex for food/milk, ban tinted car windows, ban this and that..are they are too foolish to remember that these bans have never solved the problem? With our highly porous borders from time immemorial, border closure has NEVER solved the smuggling issue in Nigeria. It just creates avenues for those responsible for its enforcement to profit while also yielding new smuggling routes.

If you don't produce something in your country, banning it's importation is what you do after you have promoted local production to the level of self-sufficiency.

To think PMB signed the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCTA) in July, but closed land borders to free movement of goods in August! Says a lot about his governance style.
