LONG POST ALERT
hello guys,
this post is long overdue.
So i was denied a visa to the US sometime last year for studies. I can't really remember the details of the interview but it went well till the part about sponsorship (a relative was sponsoring me and the VO's countenance changed immediately she noticed it).
Anyway, i deferred my admission to the fall 2019 semester and also applied to another school in a different country because i wasn't about to give up this dream of getting a good education. I got admitted into the other school and applied for a study permit to Canada while also applying for my USA F1 visa again. My dad took opened an account for my educational purpose to satisfying financial requirements this time so i wouldn't get to use a relative as a sponsor.
Fast forward to the night of the US interview and i got a denial letter regarding my study permit application. I was really confused and unsettled. I was so scared. All i thought of was how I would potentially be denied from two countries in the space of 24 hours(lol).
My interview at the US embassy the next day goes as follows:
VO: good morning, where are you going to?
Me: I am going to bleep university for my Masters degree in Construction engineering.
VO: When did you finish your first degree?
Me: I graduated in 2014 with a second class upper degree and proceeded for my national youth service at the ministry of works and housing calabar where i was opportuned to work with experienced engineers, and after that proceeded to work at a start up for a year before taking up my new role at BLUHT where I currently work as a construction engineer.
VO: Impressive, why do you want to get a masters degree.
Me: As a matter of fact, I currently work with my dad and the company is an engineering consulting firm but I'd like to incorporate construction into the company, hence the need for this degree, as I would be leading the company to another phase upon my dad's retirement. So i feel the international exposure and quality education would do me a world of good.
VO: Are you the first son?
Me: (trying to crack a joke) you are partially correct and wrong as i am the only son.
VO: na, i am correct and you are a bit wrong (obviously laughing at this point).
Me: Okay, let's agree that we're both correct and partially wrong.
VO: [laughs a bit] and says 'okay, let me have a look at your financials'. Thats the last thing i need to check.
Me: I handed him my dad's bank statement and pointed out to him that that account was made solely for the purpose of my education.(which it actually was)
Vo glance through it for a few seconds, picks up my passport at this point and sticks a paper on it, with the amount on my i20 written on the paper. Next thing, he throws the passport into a tray(I'm staring in disbelief at this point).
VO: I'll be confirming your statement, if it is found to be false, you'll be banned permanently from the US, do you want to proceed?
Me: of course yes(in my mind i'm screaming!!!!)
VO picks up two white papers and says the golden words to me....I'm shaking at this point and can feel serious cold. I quickly collect the papers and zoom off before anybody called me back. I paid the cab guy taking me home an extra 1000 Naira. lol.
it really was a miracle. I got my visa within 4days.
From a denial to Canada a day before the interview to approved to the US the very next day. I actually cried fam!
So I'm typing this now from my townhouse apartment in the US and saying to you guys, please don't give up. I spent a lot of money from visa fees to application fees and now I can say every penny was worth it! I'm finally getting the education I craved for and the experience has been awesome. pls, pls, pls.....keep pushing!!!
Thank you to everyone who contributed and still does on this thread. I am truly grateful. For those applying for the Spring semester, i wish you good luck!

congrats bro, please am just been curious, I don't have a sponsor, it's solely me, please like how much in total is needed to sponsor education in the USA.

PLEASE HELP!
Good evening everyone!
I have a very important question as regards bank statement.
Can one use two separate bank statements? That is, when the one used in applying for graduate school at the initial stage is different from that which is tendered at the embassy?

Ï think that's not possible because the bank statement you issued during your application process would have been entered on the SEVIS web and same will be printed on your I-20... "remember your i20 Will be required at the point of your visa interview.... So I wondered how that can be possible.

Where did you hear the emboldened? If that was your experience, I can authoritatively tell you that this is not the case in every school.

I don't need to hear before saying that, it's a matter of experience, tho personal anyway... I want to believe I-20 carries your sponsors name and it's bank statement amount.

Just few questions

(1) Did you "in person" use two bank statement?

(2) Did you not submit proof of financial capability before the release of your I-20? And was same not on ur I-20?me Betteree from things that may reduce the chances of visa approval.

(3) I think I'll like to know those schools with an exception.

Smile.....bro, how can you inform the school that Mr A is your sponsor and you later go to the consulate to use Mr B as your sponsor. If you are a visa officer...what will be your reaction?
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Milkshakes01(f): 10:42am On Sep 19, 2019
You can, If and only if the name of your sponsor is not written boldly on your I-20.

I think the say applies to only when your sponsor's name is indicated on the I-20 using another SOA will make it complicated only if it's written as 'family' for example then i think one can use any other family member SOA at the embassy

So far Family is entered as your source of funding on your I-20 (which is the case in most schools), you can use a different statement. Just make sure it's genuine.

ALL my African guys in Chemistry department got full funding this fall. I don't know about the availability of funding for Spring but I do know you have a really good chance as long as your overall application is impressive. ETSU is pretty generous. We work for them and we get a degree almost for FREE grin grin grin

I am the wrong person because I have a bias against law... I feel it's a suffer head degree both in Nigeria, USA and UK in the terms that the after job opportunities are very limited ...going back to the topic

Law in the US is like medicine. It is not a first degree but a second degree so you do your 4 years law program after a 4 years first degree so essentially 8 years of schooling.... that all I know really

The last time I checked for a friend who wanted to apply for chemistry, GRE is not required. Is it still the same?

VISA Issued transcript (46 days on AP)
So here it is, I’m not very good at telling stories but the whole idea of schooling in the USA started in 2014 while in the university of Ibadan I have cousins and family there that have never even been to Nigeria so I always knew I would like to school there,
Fast forward to 2017 during NYSC I started following the initial rudiments of writing necessary tests for admission in USA, wrote Toefl gre and before the end of service last year I had applied to two different programs at OU-university of Oklahoma, guess what ? I was denied, first, I applied for MSC geology , denied
Applied for transfer admission using my degree(more like direct entry) denied again, same school same department, I knew the issue was my CGPA obviously, had 309 in GRE, 98 in Toefl, sterling SOP(even wrote for a friend that got in)
But that 2nd class lower cgpa ehn, did me strong thing, looks high on Unibadan’s 7 point grade but quite low 2:2 on 4 and 5 point grades
Getting fraustrated because I really wanted a school in Oklahoma. Main reason- my people Dey there !
So I applied, again to another uni in Oklahoma, university of central oklahoma, I didn’t bother with masters, I just applied straight for transfer to my choice department.
I got admission in December 2018, resumption too close for comfort I deferred to spring 2019,
July 2019 I received my I-20 with a letter of scholarship of about $5000 per session.
5th of August 2019 I attended my first Visa interview at ABUJA embassy
After all the long checking in and procedures I met the VO, very short interview(exchanged pleasantries)

VO: pass me your I-20.
I did
VO: oh I see here, university of central Oklahoma
So where did you learn about this school
Me: I checked online and learnt about it on USNews (I actually found out from a cousin that went there but to avoid immigration talks)
VO: so why are going for this course ( energy economics)
Me: I learnt about a position open for applicants with a degree in geology with a background in finance while I was working at the ministry of energy and mineral resources for my NYSC, I believe having this degree combined with my geology degree would give me a good chance and also place me in good standing for my MBA
(No questions about why another degree grin , zanku inside my head)
VO: who is going to pay for this and can I see any financial documents backing it
ME: my uncle (while passing her my SOA and letter of sponsorship ) I also got a scholarship from the school even though I didn’t apply
VO: (looking closer at the I-20) oh I see that here and I see it’s about $5000
Me: yes, I also have made a payment of $2400 as tuition deposit ( I passed her the reciept from the school for that)
She looked at it passed it back and the letter and kept the statement of account which had about 101m naira in it with. ARM investments
VO: did you take any standardized tests
I didn’t hear that so she repeated
(I just laughed inside because I was about to show her GRE which is meant for a masters course) I passed it to her she looked impressed and passed it back
I am approving your visa (passed me a white paper and another small sheet with instructions for POE)
VO: I’m going to have to hold on to the statement of account for verification.... she went on about fraud all the banning things, I just nodded and smiled, she didn’t even mention AP.
I tracked online later that day only to see AP. Aug 5 and resumption was Aug 19th.
Fast forward to today, I just checked and found it issued after the long annoying wait, was updated on 26th of August long after I had deferred till December. Then issued today.

Before you think it, I know this transcript and interview is super weird but I thank God for answers to prayers and for the victory at last.
P.S I had always been silent here except once before my interview and a few times after, but I thank everyone that have answered my questions here even though I didnt know what to ask as my case was so different from everyone’s so I just prepared myself from the past transcripts to know what they usually ask and from my Retired professor uncle in university of Oklahoma.
It’s been a great journey and cheers to more success.
