Overreaction and childishness from both parties in my opinion. Not that much of a big deal occasionally sharing your toothbrush or towel with a serious GF. Done this sometimes with my serious GF in Uni. If you are not into the girl(or guy) then of course what would pose an issue but again be polite about it and just get rid of the items. If the guy was really against it all he should have done is mention it casually and make sure he has spare towels and toothbrushes for her to use next time she visits. He shouldn't have brought up the age thing, she shouldn't have insulted him and even brought this online.

Toothbrushes are one of the cheapest hygiene products out there. Go buy your own. Nasty.

you're right to an extent if we look at it from a lurid spectrum-i mean black and white-but you should take into cognisance the fact that humans are psychological instinctual by disposition; just like people desert a room where they've farted, as if it's of a direct mortal danger to them. forgetting that the fart actually came from their body.
