The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has declared Dr. Yakubu Hassan Koji, guilty of all the 12 charges preferred against him, TheNation reports.

Koji was arraigned for allegedly surgically cutting off the kidneys of one Isa Hamma, now deceased, without informing the patient of the nature of the operation and risks involved.

The Chairman of the tribunal sitting of MDCN, Prof Abba Hassan, declared him guilty of gross negligence and professional misconduct and struck his name out of the register of MDCN.

Dr. Koji - who practiced from 2012 (housemanship) to 2016- had performed an operation on Hamma without informing him of the risks involved; in the process he ‘mistakenly’ cut off his kidneys.

Gross negligence and unprofessional conduct at its peak. I bet he is one of those clamoring for salary parity with their counterparts around the world when he doesn't even have what it takes to deserve such perquisite.

During my youth service...they brought one patient for me. Patient had severe kidney disease. Was swollen. They wanted me to give him blood transfusion so that they could take him 'for prayers'.

Me I refused and told them to go to a teaching hosptial.

If they like, make them call me bad dokita. I no go put my hand for something wey I no fit do. If in doubt....REFER.

Only God knows how many lives this butcher has wasted.
At times as a medical student I wonder if I'd be able to practice amidst terrible people like this .

Yes, and I know many good doctors from the North. I have also seen some bad doctors from the SOuth dragged infront of that same tribunal too....

I applaud the MDCN on this bold move, in house policing is safer for practitioners, but there should still be external oversight to prevent man know man
