If Nigerian Phd Know their Onions, how come there is no invention from any of them

Phd is all about research that can bring new inventions like new drugs, new sceintific way of doing things etc but how come we see nothiing here in Nigeria.
Really, so absolutely no Nigerian PhD holders has done anything useful as regards research and inventions the last 2 years right? Or in any instance for that matter?

Stay back in Nigeria.
Apart from those people that scratch you at night when you're asleep, life in Ogbomosho is better than life in UK.
I agree. Nigeria is not as bad as we have painted it. Just take a step back and really ask yourself what you want out of life. I just moved to Ibadan and it is not bad at all.

UK and rules
Nearly Every month changes in immigration rules. A country that's least susceptible to illegal immigration but always on immigration rules.

The Phd Holders will be gotten from mostly Eastern European countries

Nobody Needs a Nigerian Phd Holder that cant even improve his home society

Most Nigerian Phd holders are just Certificate Phd Holders, Research dem no fit do, Certificate oppression is their main occupation
They will select eastern/ Western European ( Italian French) then Asian ( Chinese South Korea Malaysia ) Arab ( Saudi, Iran etc) North African before Nigeria.

Inventions/Innovations: Dr Ibrahim is the inventor and patent holder of an insect control technology for the control of whitefly in tropical crops using RNA interference, with patent deposited at the Brazilian Industrial Property Organization. He co-led a Research Project, under the Africa-Brazil program that led to the establishment of the first biobalistic facility in Northern Nigeria, 2012-2014.

Thank God these guys are not prejudiced in employing Nigerians as you guys think.

The number of Nigerian working class professionals in the UK is increasing steadily. Many more Nigerians are getting job offers in the UK.

Which Brighest among us are they taking

Brightest among us but they cant develop their country

Do we even have research facilities, When the UK are looking for Phd researchers in specific Field they go to Eastern Europe.
I know Nigerian UK PhD holders some lecturing there some came back (one planning to go back again for lecturing due to nepotism frustration). Don't look down too much on your country. We don't have the facilities but we have the brains.

Frustrated dude I mentioned did his thesis on CCS, and was recognized for it over there in the UK. Nigeria has no plans whatsoever for such technology, so you can imagine his frustration. grin grin. We'll loose him soon enough. smiley

i am not looking down on my country.

there are many foreign researchers without grants using their personal money to do great things, and they got grant after, so there is no excuse

This is what upper-class elites do ie. thats how Buhari trained his kids but they still came back to become le creme de la creme over here and not an anonymous over there

Unfortunately Nigeria's middle-class has been steadily destroyed over the past 40 years. those are the ones who emigrate after being short-changed and exploited...graduating + nysc but still struggling, medium-sized business owners being victimised and such

Otherwise most people wouldnt feel like going except for tourism

Besides, western elements have been tampering in Nigerian infrastructures to make our systems fail so that they will be able to poach our resources, both human and otherwise
Please explain how western countries are "tampering" with Nigeria's infrastructure but cannot do same with say Indian or Chinese infrastructures? Or are you not going to hold Nigerians responsible for the nation's decay but rather hold westerners?

there are many international grants for researchers in developing countries

the question, you should be asking are the Nigerian researchers actually doing anything

is it not when you start something that people will come and support you.

@Topic: Let the floodgates be open!!!
Im not absolving Nigerians of the blame at all, but I do believe that the country's weak infrastructure can be and has been politically tampered with, especially in the early 90s and 2000s

for example i intuit that the recently concluded election had at least some foreign meddling, or strong-arming to suit covert western interest. I should also think that some shadowy "big men" do receive large slice of the pie when it comes to harnessing of natural resources, or at least the taxes and interest on those profits

Of course we owe to ourselves to brush up and stop allowing it to happen, but that doesnt rule out the existence of sinister elements behind the scenes and the consequences down the line for ordinary people

Omowumi Sadik

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omowunmi_Sadik

A postdoctoral fellowship from the National Research Council supported her as a researcher at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from 1994 to 1996.She then accepted a position as an assistant professor of chemistry at the Binghamton University in Binghamton, New York. She was promoted to associate professor in 2002, and full professor in 2005. At that time, she also became director of the Center for Advanced Sensors & Environmental Systems (CASE) at Binghamton. She has been visiting faculty at the Naval Research Laboratories, Cornell University, and Harvard University.

Sadik studies surface chemistry, with particular emphasis on the development of biosensors for use in environmental chemistry. She has found that conducting polymers are especially promising for use in sensing applications. She has developed microelectrode biosensors sensitive to trace amounts of organic materials, technology which can be used for drug and bomb detection. She is also studying detoxification mechanisms of wastes such as organochlorine compounds in the environment, with the purpose of developing technologies for recycling metal ions from industrial and environmental waste. In one project, microbial enzymes increased the conversion of highly toxic chromium (VI) to non-toxic chromium (III) from 40% to 98%. Sadik is credited with more than 135 peer-reviewed research papers and patent applications. She holds U.S. patents on particular types of biosensors. In 2011, she was the chair of the inaugural Gordon Conference on Environmental Nanotechnology. In 2012, Sadik and Barbara Karn co-founded the Sustainable Nanotechnology Organization, a non-profit, international professional society for the responsible use of nanotechnology worldwide.

The question is are we even ready to accept that a Nigerian can come up with anything? Surely, you heard with me when they said that someone came up with a cure for Aids and Asthma. Were we not part of those that just turned up their noses and tuned to the next channel? What about the lady that was geovisualizing minerals for us? Do you even know her name? There're certainly geniuses hiding away and not bothering to reach or exhibit full potential, for fear that they just might not get the kind of reception, that they deserve. Philip Emeguali managed to register in our heads I'm sure, because he did all he did, outside Nigeria.

It's time we begin to give priority by really listening to and supporting
our own and stop trying to forcefully fit into the white man's society, that barely acknowledges us.

where have we seen what they invented working commercially, and you call what some of them invention

so you call reverse engineering invention

another point to note is that we are talking about Nigerian Phd Inventors living in Nigeria

lol, ridiculous, did she invent biosensors? where is that patents commercially used? here in Nigeria, how has her patent helped in improving lives.

it is like saying i owned a patent for a type of phone
