Python is probably the easiest for beginners

Html and CSS aren't really 'programming' languages

Miss, which one do you use?

You're getting it wrong. Programming is best learnt when you've got a purpose for it. Ask yourself why you want to learn programming. Do you want to make an app or a webpage or a program for a machine? You've got to be specific with why you're learning programming because different languages have their different purposes. For App, I suggest Java, Kotlin, JavaScript (using react native), etc. For webpage, I'd suggest JavaScript, CSS, HTML, etc or PHP.

To answer your question, HTML is the easiest to learn followed by CSS (my personal opinion though). I still stand that you know why/what you want to program.

(Some will say HTML CSS aren't languages though)

Lol I was even about to say that then I saw your last comment. Just a mark up language according to many.

We could also consider HTML5 as a programming language because it's used to build little games

Great, just continue that way and don’t run when you hit the coders block in JavaScript. There is that joy and satisfaction you will experience when you conquer bugs grin grin

let me advise you,

all these jaga-jaga learning styles will not help you. go to udemy and buy a course and focus on the area you want to specialize in(web, app, data science etc). then you can use sololearn, youtube, books etc side by side. don't waste time.

Please, I'm interested in data science, what computer language(s) do I need to learn and are there free courses online I can enrol for?

Please sir is it compulsory i attend a computer school in order for me to learn it , and is learning it online possible ?
If your brain is as sharp as mine cheesy , I will suggest you learn the rudiments on your own (time, discipline and focus), then you can then pay money to learn advanced levels.
Learning on your own is better if you see yourself trying to solve a problem

I learnt C and C++ in school before thinking about what to do with it. If he learns python which is easier he can easily migrate to any other programming language since he will already know the basics.
HTML and CSS are mark ups and not programming languages really.

Oh wow
Thanks for the advice man

Sorry please if I may ask though,do you mean learning online wouldn't be in depth enough?

learning from one source is not an ideal way to learn anything. the person that wrote the programming book you want to read must have read at least 10 different books before he/she came up with his/her own opinions which he put together to form that book. so likewise you a learner. don't limit yourself to one source but make sure you have one source as primary(udemy,udacity-if you have the cash) while the rest will just be for buttressing and consolidating/having a broader view.

like people have already said the purpose of use should be put into consideration so as to pick the right programming language. for instance, you want to do web development, you either use python or PHP or nodejs. you won't be so silly to go and learn java or c++for web dev because it's a very popular programming language. that would be like using a trailer for the job of a bicycle.

another thing you must consider is your location's job market requirement. for example, if you are based in America, learning PHP for web dev might not be a bright idea but here in Nigeria learning PHP is the fastest route to securing a web dev job. you can go to ngcareer/jobsguru website and type PHP in the search panel to confirm.

all the best .

me na free scholarship i dey find abeg. no money.

the few scholarships i know:

https://www.nairaland.com/5419705/iaspire-data-science-fellowship-program#82279968
http://techleaders.eg/aal/register/
https://www.nairaland.com/5400414/apply-african-app-launchpad-program#81948466

apply, they have not closed yet as at the time of writing.

udacity runs some scholarships too : bertelsmann tech scholarship - google it - but i don't know if they have a data science track .

sure. it's free. i will rather not use there as my primary source to learn to code. just to practice.

talking about practice, codewars is the place to sharpen your skills. This is a must if you really want to be pro. practice they say make perfect, permanent.
