this just further proves that Nigeria is heavily import dependent, I bet most of the said revenue came from import duties, this is not good for the economy. if you are to juxtapose this revenue with the export revenue you will see the wide margin that does not tell well of our economy. |

Laudable one but they still seek external borrowings again to run government... Pathetic if I must say. |

This man.can lie oo .. Is he saying that those cargo that comes through.seme border.and other road borders do not pay duties or revenue as he stated .. he just want to use that sentiment to support his boss at the top .. meanwhile ... those legit business guys nko .. I have a friend that his customers are from Ghana. Togo, Benin .. what is their faith now .. This government just do not care about masses .. the custom and immigration has failed and this man.should acknowledge it ..not to come here to lie .. the border should not be close for any reason .. the government should hold the security agents responsible because they re paid for that .. besides they know where the problem is from .. they have more than 6 check point from.seme to.Lagos .. .. they re only good on harassing.innocent people but take bribe from the smugglers and let them bring in what ever ..the immigration and custom boss should resign immediately .. This re their responsibility . |

| Re: Border Closure: Hameed Ali Reveals How Customs Made N9.2bn In Just One Day by Nobody: 11:56am On Oct 03, 2019 |
somehow:Most imports through land borders are contrabands. The imports that matter anyway, not raw/unprocessed food kinda imports. Else would you mind telling me why someone will import through Benin for Nigeria whereas our ports don't charge that much for regular commodity? It's Nigeria we are talking about, not francophone Africa riddled with ridiculous taxes and duties. |

Logobenz:What exactly do you know about duties and tax? What makes you think most are contrabands? Because you hear more about the seizures? And less about those not illegal since it won't make the news? |

somehow:What do I know about duties and tax? I own my own importing business.I've been doing so for close to 7 years. It's either you approach me with valid points, like a human whose head is still intact or creep back to wherever you came from. Ok? Also,I don't hear about seizures since I have first hand information. |

Legal goods coming into Nigeria via the land borders mostly don't get taxed because the monies go into corrupt officers pocket at checkpoints and borders and none gets to the governments purse. But now that nothing is allowed in, legal goods shift movements to the ports where most tax gets to the government Short and simple! |

Dreal1247:Nwanne, stop this. Excessive importation kills local economy. Maybe you should go and study how China became the second-largest economy in the world. Our people must continue to use our expertise and industry to produce things locally. We cannot keep growing the economies of Indonesia and Malaysia because of some stupid desire for foreign rice. Ebonyi, Kebbi and Anambra are already doing a great job! Other states should follow suit, including the private sector. |

Gideoniteprime4:That is the problem with the Nigerian! Customs made Five to Nine Billion in one day, (not mentioning that with the Nigerian factor, at least half of what is declared has already been stolen), does it not make sense to use the money you are making, to develop the Roads to the Port, improve Port clearance facility so that clearing is a breeze and those currently being forced to berth at our Port, can now see the need to actually want to berth there now and in the future? Repair the access road to the Ports, remove all the criminal officers alomg the Port roads (one, just after leaving the first gate and climbing the Bridge, was still asking me to give him money and when l asked for what, he said "Officers on Duty". I asked him whether l was the one who put the officers there or whether the Govt does not pay them? he got angry and started fiddling his gun while holding on to the Customs Duty payment papers l had given him to check! I gave him my 'eye-bal'l look and asked he return the papers if there is nothing else he wants to check and that l have a destination to go. he then asked me: Can l know you Sir? That question really annoyed me because you should not be doing your job or extorting people beased on who they are. I responded by asking him if he thinks l am a criminal (and l let him see that my companion's Phone was already rolling on Video Recording). he just handed over our paper without saying a word and walked away). Once people find it easier to clear their goods (after paying appropriate Duties), the roads are good to travel and there is no molestation, they would all want to berth and clear goods in Nigeria. teh ral criminals in all these are the Customs officers themselves who are making Billions of Naira daily, etorting and conniving with criminals to evade Customs Duty. Govt should make every Custom officer to declare their assets yearly and there should be an independent body monitoring their asstes acquisition and bank accounts. Just like the Police, a lot of people join the Customs/Immigration because of easy access to illicity and corrupt wealth |

This is competition among the local manufacturing industries now.... It will welcome patronage for our made in Nigeria goods... The regulatory bodies should be at work now so as the local manufacturing industries gives Nigerians quality products... Federal government and their allies should fixed the source of electricity for better Nigeria... |

somehow:Legal goods you say? I should not have wasted my time on you but I will to educate a fool like you. Which importer will import through a country like Benin republic, pay import duty, transport by land to the borders, pay for logistics, gets to the borders and pay another import duty to the Nigerian customs, transport again from the border to Lagos or his target market to come and sell whereas his counterparts will just bring the same goods direct to Lagos and start selling after paying just customs and transport? How Does a person who imports through Benin compete in the same market as those who went through Lagos, all bringing the same type of legal goods? Don't your coconut head tell you that people that go that route are people going to import contraband? What legal goods can a person even import from Benin apart from raw food? Do they manufacture anything significant? Next time, shut up so we can assume you are smart. Fucking peasant! |
