@legitbachelor,what do you know about this new health insurance bill that’s about to be passed on the 3rd of next month, would people like us be affected and do you have an idea of how much the requirement is
From what I just read,it will not affect K1 visa applicants.K1 visa is not a direct immigrant visa, but for immigrant visa e.g family related like the ones for spouses, parents and siblings are gonna be affected by the new policy.K1 visa applicants will still adjust their status after marriage to their US fiance/fiancee before they can attain immigrant status.
For those us that we are going for interview soon, let us continue to pray for favour during our interviews.Trump and his policies are targeted at reducing the number of immigrants coming to America.

It is maybe not for K visa but it is for green card application.

Please house I just arrived in the United States with a k1 visa on Saturday. What are the necessary things I need to do to get my social security number. Please

@Innobeem,

Welcome to the States!

I will advise that you wait for about a week or two and then go ahead and apply for your Social Security Number, at your nearest Social Security Administrative office.

You will need to go with your International Passport and the print-out of your I-94 Form.

Can you also give us a brief about your interview experience, before you traveled?

Cheers!

I don't think you will be affected. USCIS and the Embassies has to come up with a policy document based on this executive declaration from the White House.

I don't even know how USCIS and the Embassies will implement this new requirement. The requirement only says the immigrant should be insured within 30 days of entry into the States. It didn't say the insurance should be gotten before entry. So I wonder how USCIS and the Embassies can enforce this. Perhaps they will require a written commitment from the Petitioner that he/she will purchase an insurance plan for his/her fiancee within 30 days on entry or they might increase the Public Charge requirements (eg increase the % Federal Poverty Salary requirement from 125% to 250%). Lets watch and see. But personally I think the original Public Charge rule by USCIS should automatically take care of this new insurance requirement. I don't know why they want to enforce Public Charge rule and then come up with another rule on insurance. It's unnecessary if you ask me. Anyone who meets the Public Charge rrquirement should naturally be able to take care of his/her beneficiary's healthcare cost.

But one thing I know for sure is that this policy, if it comes into force, will affect anyone seeking visa for permanent entry into the States, be it fiancee visa or immigrant visa.

My interview was scheduled for July 18 at 7 AM. I made sure I was there early, by 5 AM. When I arrived we were divided into two separate lines, immigrate versus non-immigrant. I got into the non-immigrant line. I was the second one in line so I did not have to wait as long as some of my peers. The security check all my documents to make sure that I had everything And I completed my biometrics before proceeding to the interview. I was called up to one of the windows to complete my interview. The officer was a nice white man who greeted me with a smile. I made sure I played it cool I looked him in his eye and I never displayed any nervousness. Before going to the interview I just remembered that nobody can tell me about the Love that me and my baby share. These are questions asked:

1. What’s the name of the petitioner?
2. Have you met in person?
3. Where was the first time you met her?
4. How did you come in contact with her?
5. Who contacted who first?
6. How did you begin communication with her? And what was her reply?
7. If you guys met on Facebook, did you have any mutual friends? What is the name of that mutual friend? And is the mutual friend from Nigeria and born in the US?
8. How long was the petitioner in Nigeria with you?
9. What things did you do together while she was here?
10. When is the wedding?

After this he told me that my visa was granted and gave me a white piece of paper that show me where to pick up my passport in the next few days. The interview was easy for me because I was well prepared and I know everything about my baby.

Yes it says that the beneficiary should be insured within 30 days but,to be granted a visa, the beneficiary must be able to prove that he or she would be able to cover the cost, their aim is to cut prospective immigrants from having access to free health care so they won’t even let you unless you prove that you won’t be relying on their healthcare from what I read

Exactly. So my thinking is this....how can one prove that he or she will be able to cover the cost? Isn't the 125% income requirement not enough?

The 125% is just to prove that you won’t be a public nuisance to them, and whatever your spouse is earning would be enough to fend for the both of you so I’m thinking that they’ll probably give us a certain amount of money that would be the minimum requirement maybe 50-100k dollars,if that is the case then, person don enter gbese be that

Fiance(e) or Spouse visa it's easy. I think your petitioner even can make a letter stating which insurance he/she will provide to cover you, it will cost monthly payments but after you arrive or you can get travelling insurance from your travel agent which covers you for any emergency during 3-6 months or until you get the American insurance living here.

More difficult if the minimum income increases. Now it's not easy for some and they use cosponsor because sometimes it's not a person alone but with kids, if it comes to minimum income $50 K -60 K a year, not many petitioners make it, again cosponsor which is hard to find. Also the people who makes this amount are married or don't want to be married or looking for the equal one, not bringing the foreigner. Now all becomes more expensive and some people don't want to bother, specially people who makes decent money and have many chances to get a spouse in America.

It doesn't work this way. Your petitioner should show the real income (tax return) and real savings, property, car, etc. and sign he/she is responsible to pay back to US government if you go to be a public charge during 10 years or until you become a citizen. It's not an easy decision for the Petitioner and if he/she goes for it, he/she knows it's to be on the hook, also there are some more expenses (clothes, phone, car) supporting you until you get your work permit and you find a job and if you fail, he/she maybe will pay to the government your welfare, and if you add to it a possible divorce and you claim some or half from what the Petitioner owns, it's not an easy decision.

Fiance(e) or Spouse visa, American government wants the US citizen or the Legal Resident to show their finances and to sign the affidavit for you. They don't care about your bank account. But you always can help your Fiance(e) or Spouse sending 50K-100K to their account for to show your Petitioner account has money.

Don't bother yourself, it's not your business for now to know about our taxes, the embassy can see if the info in Affidavit of Support is genuine and any US citizen or a Legal Resident knows what is what, as well just providing the tax report copy, the embassy see how much they are worth.

Yes. However it will take longer time and more expensive as they will still need to communicate with the Police Office in Ikoyi that is in charge of Police Clearance Certificate. But the simple answer to your question is Yes.

Is there any November or December date? If there is, I advice you choose it immediately. It's better to go for a november or december (or even January or February!) interview than to be disqualified and not be able to go at all for any interview.

@legitbachelor, why is the embassy sending packet 4 to k1 applicants with instructions on how to schedule interview for a spouse based visa,my financee got a mail today and it’s packet 4 instead of 3,and the police certificate thing,is it only Lagos I can get it or I can do it anywhere is it says on the packet that it should be gotten at alagbon.ive also been checking for earlier dates as my petition expires very early in December and my interview is late November.i really do not want to be caught in between the mix up,how come k1 dates are different from other dates?

Disregard whether its Packet 3 or 4. The most important thing is that the Embassy has given you guys the go ahead to schedule (which you guys have done).

Police Clearance is done in Alagbon. People from outside Lagos can go to the nearby police office and request for it, that police office will liaise with Alagbon to get it done. However I advice you guys go to Alagbon and do it yourself to prevent getting a fake document. Since the interview is done in Lagos (even the medical test is either done in Abuja and Lagos only), its better to come to Lagos 2/3 days before the interview and get the Certificate or if you are worried that it is too close to the interview date, liaise with someone you know in Lagos to do it for you at Alagbon.

I honestly don't know why the K1 dates is different from the B1/B2 dates. The Embassy knows. Perhaps for logistic reasons.
