For your resumption date, don't worry, when you get an interview date you and your employer will decide on a date. Ensure that this date gives ample space to allow for your visa processing, else you will be required to bring a confirmation letter from your employer stating that they are ok with you resuming at a later date other than your resumption date. All this back and forth will delay your visa. For example, let's say your visa interview is on the 28th of this month, and your resumption date is on the 1st of Nov, by the 10th day after your interview, they will email to ask you to bring that confirmation. So I will advise you give 21 to 30 days after your interview as your resumption date.
Another thing, you might also be eager to buy a travel health insurance before hand, which is good. However, make sure it starts on the date of your intended departure and should span 3 months (99 days to be safe). If yours start before your intended date of travel and covers for less than 3 months, you might be asked to submit another around the 10th day after your interview - another delay.
About your intended date of departure, to be safe, it should be at least 21 days after your interview. I say this because you might be asked to submit a written letter stating your date of departure. Your date of departure must be at least 10 days after the date that you submit the written letter and whatever document they also asked for. Usually this request for additional docs, travel health insurance etc comes around the 10th or 11th day after your interview. Assuming you even submit the docs that day, and have to give 10 days space, you can see that it now amounts to minimum of 21 days after your interview. So space your dates wisely to avoid unnecessary back and forth.
If you have all these sorted out beforehand, you can be rest assured to get your visa within 14 days. Some interviewers may be gracious enough to ask if you want to submit your passport / travel health insurance etc on the that same interview date. If you don't need your passport outside there, please submit it ooo!!! Passport is too precious to be mailing up and down by courier - travel health insurance, written letter etc can easily be replaced, but if the courier service loses your passport...hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Is it necessary for the work visa. If yes, how can I go about it?

Normally your company / employer in Germany will have to fill a form called stellenbeschreibung.

It describes the kind of work that you going to do in Germany with this company. it explains how many hours you're going to work, how your salary is going to be and all that.

Your company can send it to the Bundesagentur für Arbeit in der City and they will decide, if they approve the working permit. That's the way I know it. I don't know if one can apply for working permit without having a certain company to work with

Gotten my visa. A mail was sent 4 working days after my interview, to bring my passport and travel documents (once you get this mail, your visa has most likely been approved), submitted the requested documents the next day at the embassy and I got back my passport two days later.

So all in all, it took 7 working days from my interview, to get my visa.

Please note that this is not cast in stone so yours might take shorter or longer. This is just an overview of what mine was like.

Hopefully yours will go as smooth as mine.

You have to fund the requirements for two block accounts. That is around 20,000 Euro +
Bear that in mind.
It's a good move you are doing honestly than the long period of waiting. Then you would attend interview the same day on your student Visa interview day. ( All you have to do after getting a date for your self, call them or mail the embassy to make it for two of you guys).

After the interview. You would get your visa before her. After some months, the verification and everything she would also get own also And meet you over there.

Make sure you enrolled her now for Language classes in Nigeria to attain the A1 certificate at Geothe institute.

This is the best options for family reunion honestly, even with those going for job.

Nairalanders I have some questions .
I have a Bsc in Banking and Finance, (I have 2 years post graduate experience not in Banking and Finance field though). I am currently learning German here in Nigeria and I plan to get a B1 cert b4 applying.
My sis is married to a Polish citizen and they are both legal residents in Germany. My sis and her hubby are willing to send me invitation and accommodate me if I'm given a job seeking visa. The issue now is I don't have up to 4k euros and I don't fall under the category of those professions in demand in Germany, like IT, ENGINEERING, MEDICINE,..Are sponsorship letters only meant for students, or can my sis and her hubby send a sponsorship letter stating that they would sponsor my stay over there for the period of job seeking. Meanwhile I have upto 2k+ Euros not upto 4k. What are my chances? Advice please.

I will like to run a scenario by you all experienced folks, please read carefully and advise as best as you can

Resumption date on Contract is Oct 1st but Interview date is late November. FEA approval received. Job requires security clearance that would take 8 weeks to process AFTER the work permit visa has been obtained from Lagos.

Should I ask for a note from my employer reflecting this information before attending the interview? How is the visa dated ? The company is not willing to accommodate me for 8 weeks so the plan is to remain in Nigeria till the clearance is obtained then proceed to Germany to begin work.

Kindly advise please. Thank you.

The visa is normally 6 months so you should be fine to stay in Nigeria during the security clearance. You will be expected to take this visa to Germany and then upgrade it to a residence permit.
