Marissa Mowry, 28 who was a nanny has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
The sentence was given after she admitted to the sexual battery that occurred in 2014. She had raped the boy at least 15 times over several months.
Mowry, of Hillsborough County in Florida, later gave birth to a son. Her victim – who we chose not to name – is now 17 years old and trying his best to raise the five-year-old child with his family’s help.
Speaking after Mowry’s sentencing, her victim’s mother Nadean Campbell told reporters: ‘I thought of her almost as a second daughter.’
Campbell also expressed incredulity at Mowry’s excuse that the youngster was mature beyond his years. She said: ‘To think of my son as more than a child?
‘I mean, we’re talking about a child who was 11.’ Campbell explained that her son takes his son to school in the morning, before going to school himself, then plays with him in the backyard after he gets home. The youngster can no longer hang out with friends after school, because he is too busy with his child.
And the boy has struggled to find a girlfriend far more than his peers, with his mother saying: ‘Who wants to date a 17-year-old who has a 5-year-old?’
Despite the obstacles her son faces, Campbell says being a dad so young has ‘changed’ his life but not ‘ruined’ it, and that her son is an ‘amazing’ father.
