Students claimed she was arrested because she turned into a mermaid. This outrageous claim elicited hilarious reactions from Twitter users.

However, one Twitter user shared screenshots of WhatsApp updates from eyewitnesses explaining what really happened.

According to the Unilag students who claim to be close to the situation, the student got into an altercation with another student and she threatened to show the other "pepper". They reported to the porter and the student was arrested. But rumours soon began spreading that the arrested student claimed she is a "water goddess".

Talking about this story, I have to say that I'm extremely disappointed at how the management of the school and the entire student body actually handled the situation.
How can you melt that kind of embarrassment on a student over a meaningless superstitious claim like that!
How do you expect her to walk in the school premises tomorrow or even attend classes. Or do you expect her to call the entire school into an assembly and tell them it was all rumour and she's not a mermaid!?
We really need to do more to protect humanity and human integrity in this country.
As it stands now, any old woman cannot just walk alone in public anymore, she is automatically termed a witch and before you know it, someone has already cooked up a story of how he saw her turn to a bird.
