most Dunce just go about saying in saner climes... NYPD budgets $500m usd Nigeria budget just little over 10m usd, yet you want services of people that pay real tax..

Since Police dont have a conprehensive database of citizens, and cant track anybody, should they simply free suspects without finalising thier clearance

Medanoski:
some heads are really without brains. For your information, in sane climes, if you are a person of interest in an ongoing police investigation, the police would either invite you or come to your place to ask questions and get your statement. You can only be arrested when they have evidence that ties you to the crime. People like you are the reason this country rots even deeper on daily basis.

What is the police evidence against the man in the first place- an honest phone call ?. Nigeria is doomed.

Nigerian police only way of investigation is to arrest everything arrestable.

Welcome to Nigeria where we have poorly-trained security officers.

In our country, we can pass a sensitive security point with a contraband just because of your dressing and appearance while all suspicious eyes are on the innocent man with plated hair, afro hair, tattoo or eye ring.

stop being emotional,. if your car was stolen and the suspect got released without proper clearance, you would still blame the police for collecting bribe

Humility017:

and also keep him in custody for 33 days...

may sense fall on you.....
remember how I was almost shot on the prime that I was termed a suspect...all because they saw me in a public school reading my books oooh and nothing else.

What the police did on the guy is called risk 'assessment'. The only problem i have with what they did is the time they spent doing their job on him. Being the last caller before the vehicle was snatched virtually makes him a suspect, though putting it to him directly that he called to monitor the vehicle owner is wrong. Unfortunately, a lot of Nigerians don't know the law, let alone channel complaints to the right quarters.

OP, Stay strong.
Yet those yeyetic human right activist wouldn't see this case to handle. But if it involves a celebrity the social media will go haywire

Someone is making sense here. Who the compliant had allowed the police to arrest his wife?

The police would not budge because they've seen greater denials that turned out to be crocodile tears.
But that does not justify locking up someone for so long without any concrete evidence. Nigerian police are .... Terrible!!

I would have cussed them out if not that a gentleman of the force on this forum called me offline to try to correct my impression of the Nigerian police. I listened to him politely before reminding him that he is one good egg in a basket filled with stinky, rotten eggs.

Some dude mispaid 21k into my account. If you see all the rigmaroling before I eventually paid back in cash. Because in this country you just do not know what’s up. Even now I am half expecting a call from an aggressive illiterate. Do you know you transacted with a yahoo account?

So?

Calling someone on the phone is now enough reason for the person to rot in jail?

Never said so.

The police are primitive, yes.

But it doesn't mean the guy is innocent.

What gives the Police the right to hold a suspect for 33 days,

On suspicion?

If they have evidence of his involvement, they should charge him to Court and move him to a proper Prison, not lock him up and be extorting him..

no,i don't think it was his friend who arrested him!

The problem is that the Nigerian police force are so useless that they'd arrest this guy because he called the victim on phone, they'd arrest the last lady the victim slept with, they might even go ahead to arrest the waiter in the last eatery the victim went to for a meal..

do you noticed that when there is a robbery somewhere and they found a missing I. D card, wallet, phone, atm card or even a piece of jewelry around the vicinity, nigerian police will arrest the owner of that missing item and they'll gladly termed him/her the robber, they'd stop investigation immediately?

That's to show how worthless the so-called Nigerian police force is. A lot of innocent people are in their custody.
. The same things applicable to you. You hear one side story and you have already pass judgement.

If they have evidence of his involvement, the logical thing would be to charge him to a Court of Law..

Holding him based on mere suspicion is an impingement on his freedom of movement..

But what do I know. lipsrsealed

So police should stop investigating people?

You are a person of intrest in a possiible homicide / kidnaping / roberry case, you were the last seen with the victim, so police should just let you go without thoroughly investigating you?

Should Police release a suspect without clearing him and he escapes, same Dunce would call police corrupt

I tire me o. How lame it sounds, yet the poor guy is still languishing in jail! How can you monitor someone thru just 1 phone call? And besides, they had an issue that needed trashing so his call, was valid. Proper investigation should be done, and the guy should have been out on bail except he could not front bail bond? Until proven guilty, he should be in prison. PLEASE, CIVIL ORGANISATIONS SHOULD DO THE NEEDFUL

He is probably a principal suspect in the case, but which should come first: proper investigation or arrest and detention/incarceration?

I pray you're not a Police officer, 'cos if you are, inshot, mai no talk.

Anyone who throws the name of God/Lord around so much in Nigeria is a prime suspect.

So he should be detained for 33 days because he is a person of interest?
And you support that?
