which kind corridor? Mumuu you think Benin republic are stupid to allow that? Rubbish they will lock their own border too. That's why Ghana no get sense
Thanks bros, even if Nigeria allows a corridor for Ghana only(not possible) and not for Benin, they believe that Benin would allow that?
Benin would just raise their tariffs for goods heading from Ghana to Nigeria to make up for their loss with Nigeria.

Nigerians are very selfish creatures, its always about their personal gains, never looking at the long term effect and funny enough, they are always the first to blame the government on every little thing

Don't waste your time with these people... This nation has so many self-serving traitors, who only think of their stomachs. You would be tempted to think that every single useful thing needed in Nigeria comes through those borders...

Have you heard any of them tasking those neighboring countries to make reforms, and come to a compromise??!... What a nation!!! undecided

if you had a brain and somebody is telling you he is losing 3 trillion naira from imported textiles, when we had a thriving textile industry in the north and our youths are now jobless, you will figure out that this is an opportunity to revive our textile industry and put our youths to work.

your youth are unemployed because the jobs from all the closed textile mills in Nigeria have been exported abroad and you are there saying they should open border? if the business in legitimate why dont they use the sea port?

......but maybe you dont

You have never owned ant successful business in your life so shut up and listen to successful people with a track record when they speak . I am die diciple of comparative advantage of and free markets and I know market will always find it's level when left to run .. back to your shallow comment , are you aware that textile industry needs electricity , water and raw material supply to work ? Don't you think Buhari should first give Nigerians 20 thousand meagawatts and potable water and watch the how textile mills erupt around the country ...Since Buhari came he has added absolutely zero MWs to grid and instead claiming to be deploying protectionism to protect non existent industries .. Well, border closure is on time because as far as Nigeria is concern. nothing is timely.
Border does not mean things will go easy but will sure open our eyes on what needs to be done.
example
Rice..
what do we need to make the price stable
now textile
Border closure helps narrow the search for better living..
if the government can focus on this things that is making us depend on other countries.
then my fellow Nigerians, we are 5 steps in the right direction.

since you are not smart enough or you are being petty:

According to u:

"they dont pay the correct duty, this is why imported textiles are cheaper and our own textile mills have shut down resulting in no jobs"

These are my questions:

"Y don't they (textile importers) pay d correct duties? Who collects d incorrect duties from them? What is d job of d customs? Are there no customs officials at d borders?"

This is what u called an answer to d questions I asked:

"Nigerians are corrupt, corrupt people will always find themselves into banks, civil service, police, army customs etc and sabotage well meaning directions. Someyimes the only way to deal with the corrupt people that are we Nigerians is to be draconian.
Like I said anyone with a brain who means well for Nigeria should at this moment be wondering why we are importing so much textiles through the land borders especially when our numerous textile mills are shut down and our youths are unemployed."

I asked "who collects d incorrect duties"? Pls where's d answer to that in ur comment above?

I also asked "what is d job of d customs"? Where's d answer to that in ur comments?

Lastly, I asked if there are no custom officials at d borders? Pls where's d answer to that in ur comment above?

I didn't ask u if Nigerians are corrupt or not. If corrupt people are in d customs, is it by closing d border that they will b dealt with or fished out?

Border closure has came to stay, all I knw is its merit outweigh it demirit.
Now that our people in Kano state commence investing into fabric production it will be a huge setback for government to reopen it afterall the marketers trapped at the border are aware of the scheduled border closure

Something particularly wrong with Africans. You use extreme measures to handle moderate issues.
Worst case scenario, smugglers will become more creative. Other West African nations will adapt, we would be alienated.

You think say over 180 million customers na beans, what are the other west African countries making that we can't make here. let the smugglers become more creative, we will also become more efficient. in fact, let's be totally alienated from all these west African nations, they have being nothing but burdens & problems to us. We have the manpower, all we need is the zeal to move forward, which am sure suffering will help us achieve it

I once said that the closure of these borders is not a properly thought idea, but some ignorant entities were ranting up and down.

Rice is not the only commodity that passes through a border. There are a lot of genuine business that passes through the land border.

If you are importing or exporting to some of the west African countries, it's easier and more cost effective to use the land boarders than the sea port.

Imagine a man exporting textiles to Ghana from Kano, how possibly will he do that through the sea port in APAPA?

I am totally against rice smuggling but the government should have come up with smarter ideas to deal with this issue, and not shutting down the whole boarder.

Presently I have about two trailers of hides and skin from Mali parked at the boarder incurring bills, with high possibility of spoiling within the shortest period of time because of its present condition.

How do I import from Mali to Nigeria through the seaport?

It is only those that does not understand what happens at the land boarders that are jumping up and down.

Once again I reiterate my stance against smuggling rice through the boarders, but we have to be more tactical in handling certain issues as regards to our economy.

This boarder issue in Nigeria is like a fly perching on a man's scrotal sack, you have to apply wisdom in dealing with it, if not you may end up hurting yourself terribly bad if you hit it with great force.

How many sea ports do you have? What will be the impact if everyone that needs to export and import goes to the seaport(s) mentioned? What would be the going of going to the seaport if you are doing business in another part of the country that shares a land border directly with your customer?

Guys, you need to actually breathe and think things through.
The reason your youths dont have jobs in your non-existent textile industry is that your governments successively, have not put in the right resources and infrastructure in place. There is no power supply for the textile mills, no roads / rail to transport the raw materials and products, policy flipflops discourage investors coming in.....

Think sir.....think.

there is no rail to transport raw materials and products but there is rail/roads to transport imported goods?

you raise a good point about capacity and gridlock at our sea ports. In any event, it's neither here nor there, open or closed border, Nigeria is doomed either way, it's only a matter of time

Has the corridor being opened yet and the Nigerian government that said you must get your act together before any consideration for reopening is joking?
Continue begging Nigeria for forgiveness for now, change your ways and we'd consider you guys request.

Date of report, 18 October, today is 03 November yet you're already rejoicing over a phantom corridor.
Better tell your president to give those stranded Ghanaian drivers at our borders more money in order to survive.

This is exactly what happens when an idiot and some leeches manoeuvre their way to power. I have been telling people that this man has got nothing to offer Nigeria, sadly our political system is jam-packed with highly questionable characters suffering from chronic sycophancy, who wouldn't mind licking the anus of a cow just to get beef.

Since 2015, Nigeria has been on a massive retrogressive streak. About a week ago, it was reported that over 100 (about or so) top companies pulled out from the Nigerian stock exchange, leaving the stock market in a precarious situation just like every other sector of our country.

It is not only Rice that is being smuggled. What about Nigerian petroleum products that have been heavily subsidized by the Nigerian government only to end up in those so called African countries.

3 trillion is equivalent of 90bn dollars or so.

How on earth can any group of people claim they are waiting for goods worth $90bn in one delivery.

Which part of Northern Nigeria can afford to buy the $90bn worth of textile material.

They first claimed the border in north is flourishing to pitch the south against the north.

As soon as they realized that is likely not to work, they are claiming the once flourishing border is all of a sudden locked up and some fanthom business men are at the risk of losing billions of dollars grin

At what cost? If I export wears from Aba to Cameroon which is just a few kilometers away from Aba after paying the required duties at the border post, how do I survive if I'd have to move the same goods from Aba to Lagos just to export it through sea or Air to next door Cameroun? Since the land borders are closed and the PH port is moribund. Does it sound like a sustainable idea to you?
