.President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the extension of the joint border operations code-named Exercise Swift Response which has led to the total shutdown of land frontiers across the country.

The land borders are expected to be reopened on January 31, 2020, thus dashing the hopes of entrepreneurs in the West African region who were optimistic that the Nigerian government will end the military exercise before Christmas.

In a circular dated November 1, 2019 (NCS/ENF/ABJ/221/S.45) and signed by the Comptroller of Customs in charge of enforcement, Victor David Dimka, to the Sector Coordinators, joint border operations drill (Exercise Swift Response), Sectors 1, 2, 3 & 4, it directed them to note the new development and comply accordingly

truth is that most nigerians are new to the internet and react newly to things that has been happening for ages!
it pains some people when they see the Christians celebrate heavily at yuletide season, one way to stop this is to instill hardship by closing the borders....

So much sense..

Of what reasons do we have customs at the entrance if they can not checkmate incoming good by allowing the goods permitted by law and restrict the ones restricted by law. Closing border shows we do not have officials whose duty is to protect the border. We should render customs useless and device another means of checkmating our borders.

You can see how empty some of your country men and women are because no one, not even the media, has ask the government the specific duty of Customs. Instead, they are dancing unclad praising the incompetent government for border closure. It's a pity!

You mean after they re-open the borders in January, smuggling will stop? Who are those aiding and abetting smuggling? Are they not the Nigeria Customs Service? The sensible thing to do is to retrain and reorganize our Customs for effective service delivery and adopt severe punitive measures for corrupt officials. We won't do it but choose to close land borders while business as usual continue anytime it's re-open. The funny thing is some people are jubilating that Government is doing well by closing borders. Very useless country

Does it mean Nigeria has achieved her objective of becoming self sufficient in rice production so soon? undecided

I don't get it...

What was d main objective?
What has Nigeria achieved?
What next?

The objective was not to attain self-sufficiency.

Buhari closed the borders because of smuggling

The Buhari administration has no clear-cut direction

Just to make Christmas unbearable for us....religion bigotry everywhere

Don't bring religion into this please. Did Bible say Christians should engage in smuggling?

The Bible says Isaac sowed in the land (our own land is Nigeria) and he reaped bountifully.

Bible did not say Isaac imported or smuggle in the land.

I stand with Buhari on this.

Some persons believe that border closure was targeted at Christmas celebrations.

When I read those comments, it just reaffirms the conviction that there's mutual distrust amongst the peoples of Nigeria.

Nigeria can never be united.
