Guys, regarding bonds.

I was told these are the rates
10.9 for 2yrs
11.36 for 3 yrs.

How come someone was quoting 16.2% for yields in bonds, how is it calculated cos most bank staff have no clue.

I did mine in stanbic ibtc. ...ask the private banking section of the bank
But the 16.2% is for 17 year bond. ....

You are talking about FGN savings bond while the are talking about FG bonds. There is difference please.

What's the difference??
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by TotoNaRubber: 11:13am On Nov 09, 2019
Thanks for clarifying this, the bank staff seems to have shallow knowledge of these things.

Do you know the risks involved with FG Bonds like any chance of loss of capital?

Also, is interest upfront or coupons of what value are paid at what times?

Also, how does a given rate of 13 percent equal to 16 percent?

Thanks in advance and hope someone can answer it.

Oga just carry your money enter stanbic ibtc bank.....as them FGN Bonds available in the secondary market. ....they will show you all available bonds with their offer and coupon percentages. ......you just choose anyone you like and you will be debited the same date. ......coupon payments will start on the stated date for the bond.

Very simple. .....

The charge for cutodian fees is the koko thing ....

Stanbic ibtc. ...0.05% of your face value investment x number of years of your bond

Afri-invest (what I saw in their website was). .....1% of your face value investment x number of years of your bond.

I think 1m may be OK for stanbic. ...though I didn’t ask them.

A beg my hand de pain me to type. .....

Anyother information could be obtained from the bank. .....don't forgetto ask the real investment guys in the bank

....bye....

U are right sir. Am not within so can't deal physically in the bank. I emailed Stanbic but they categorically told me that I have to be present for the amount of money I want to invest. My presence in that country wont be anytime soon. Is so frustrating though. Gtb told me similar thing also, infact my acct officer with gtb want me to do fixed deposit, later he now started toasting me on the phone to fixed the money in his branch so as to help him reach a target. I completely pulled out. So u see my predicament right now. Time is of essence to me now as I need to pay study fees.

Let's migrate to your thread on stocks before they shout for us here.....

But quickly , suretrader is down and out, they've given their customers two options either to continue with f11trade as their new clearing broker or to transfer their funds out before 8th Nov. And if u fail to transfer out they will automatically transfer u to f1trade.

My worry is that f1trade is a CFD broker.....lets move over to ur thread on stocks before wahala bust here.

I choosed to ignore that comment because some peeps surround themselves with empty vessels and they felt every other woman out there are empty vessel too. So pls ignore it to avoid unnecessary arguments. Investing and listening to investment news doesnt make anyone an investment guru as everyone mustn't invest in bond, tbs, and the likes to be rich. Eg, my husband doesnt believe in ur stock and bond but that doesnt make him less of a man. He makes his money from other sources, I wonder how people reason most times shaa.

Please my brother needs an advice.
He bought three bedroom apartments from Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria at 9.2m. Ten percent equity of #920,000 paid and offer letter given. The balance of the money is to be deducted from his salary starting from January next year. He has twenty years left in the service. Amount to be deducted is yet unknown to him. He is planning to deposit 4m with FMBN to reduce the balance as well as the amount to be deducted.
He was equally thinking of suspending the plan especially now that he's yet to know the amount that will be deducted and rather invest the cash in Tb.
From my calculations using Mortgage Calculator, 20yrs tenor will be 14.2m @ #711,840 a year while 15yrs tenor will be 12.5m @ #838,452 a year to complete the payment.
The question is, dropping 4m with FMBN to reduce the balance of what will be deducted and investing the same amount in Tb, which one pays more?

First he will pay about #60,896.64 monthly for 20 years, almost #731,000.00 annually. If he pays 4m upfront, he will pay about #32,239.40 monthly for 20 years, about #387,000.00 annually.

If he invested the 4m in Tbills at 11% annually, he gets 440k annually which can be compounded and so on.
At the current rate 11.296%, the FGN Savings bond (3 years) will put about #113,000.00 on your table quarterly from the 4m and that will happen for 3 years.... the options are much.

I will advise that the 4m be invested and reinvested for 20 years. It should be worth over 25m by then.

Tell him to enjoy his accommodation and invest his 4m for 20 years.

I appreciate your response.
I was advicing him alternatively to lock the cash in Tb first for a year. Whatever savings (say 1.5 or thereabout) he realises at the expiration of this first investment should be added to it plus accumulated interest and lock in again. In 3 to 4 yrs period, he must have gotten the balance and settled everything once and for all.

Please someone should educate me on how this Federal Mortgage Bank Housing Loan works.
If the total loan amount is 9.2m and 10% equity of 920k is paid, the balance is 8.280m.
If 60k is deducted monthly from someone salary account for 3yrs (that's 2.160m), will this be minus from 8.280m leaving a balance of 6.120m should he plans to pay off in three years period?
I'm asking because I do not really have much idea about the process.
