Otedola and Co who have been importing fuel and scamming the government of its resources couldn't build a refinery but Dangote who had never be into fuel importation saw the need to build one.... Nonsense again |

CoolAmbience: As an entrepreneur I sense you don't fully grasp the entire intricacies involved in doing business especially in Nigeria. But i won't engage in any form of discourse with you. Shebi you say you are an enteprenuer? Good just tell govt to fix prices for the discharge of the goods and services you intend to make available to the public irrespective of your cost of production. OPEC also sets prices so there is a level playing ground between thecountries that produce crude. Imagine if the global sale of crude was free for all then big players like Saudi will use their excess supply capacity to drive our small players like Nigeria,Ghana etc so the analogy cannot be used in this discussion. Instead of the minister blatantly asking for a reduction in prices he should have a round table discussion to see how all the stakeholders can work together to improve service and more importantly ease the cost of doing business |

THE EXTENSION IS NECESSARY TO GIVE ROOM FOR HOW TELECOMS COMPANIES WILL ORGSNIZE HOW MUCH TO BRIBE THE MINISTER, I CAN HEAR MTN PROPOSING 200 MILLIONS NAIRA INTO MINISTER ACCOUNT,BUT GLO SAYING THE MONEY IS TOO MUCH,ETISALAT SAYING,HE CAN ONLY GIVE THE MINISTER TWO PRADO JEEP, WHILE AIRTEL IS SAYING, THEY WILL PAY FOR THREE CHILDREN UNIVERSITY FEES IN AMERICA, MTN IS ANGRY THAT THEY SHOULD PAY THE 200 MOLLIONS NAIRA ON MONDAY OR ELSE. deenee: Is it not the same thing? OPEC is protecting the weak oil producing nations. Why are you contradicting things? Nigeria has the responsibility to protect her citizens against exploitation. Simple. There is distinction between profit making and exploitation. Don't think that the people in government know nothing about doing business. There is nothing to justify here. Please, don't lecture me about any intricacies of doing business in Nigeria. I started my business here from zero and I live here. I understand so much about doing business in Nigeria. I have won national and continental awards, including one from the African Entrepreneurship Awards. |

ornicus: Now, you are being ridiculous. Are telcos giving data away for free? Did the government ask them to do so? Whether you like it or not, the Nigerian government has a responsibility to her citizens, and protecting consumers of certain products is one of them. Tell 'your' telcos to either adjust or ship out. After all, it's a Nigerian telco that 'forced' the other telcos to cut down on their charges, especially the introduction of the famous 'per second billing'. We do not want exploiters but investors. Shikena! |

ornicus: God bless you my brother. Our entrepreneur here doea not even know the difference between profit and exploitation. Maybe he wants us to go back to the era off govt owned Nitel where you queue for three days to buy call cards and then queue another three to make an international call. Instead of us to hold out govt accountable we are busy trying to run the few private firms thriving in the country into the ground. Go and see what govt interference in micro managing the affairs of the economy(even to the point of controlling prices of bread and table water) has turned Venezuela into. Govt should create the enabling environment and ease the cost of business and watch how market will force prices down. The same govt that can't decide on standard data capture and identification modality for Telco and yet turn back and fine them for not disconnecting unregistered lines. |
Re: Isa Ali-Pantami Extends Deadline On Reduction Of Data Price by deenee: 3:02pm On Nov 10, 2019 |
CoolAmbience: Kpele mr award winner. The open analogy still does not hold because the price of data varies and you pick and choose according to your capacity. We need to stop this free for all mentality that we have.telcos are exploiting through data when we even have the one of the lowest data tarrifs I am also beginning to doubt your clarion call about been an entrepreneur or maybe you are one of those internet entrepreneurs that don't make use of any factors of production and also buy your way through with phoney awards. Otherwise if you produce employ people and grapple with the issue of double taxation of all cadres of the same govt you will understand 1 Like |

deenee: Lol. You are just ignorant and vexed at government over nothing. Who talked about free anything? You think you know more than those at the NCC and Ministry? My award is phoney...show your real awards and lets see whose awards are phoney. Were the telcos not exploiting Nigerians when they charged the same cost for a call duration of one minute and a call duration of 10 seconds? Was it not Globacom that turned things around for Nigerians? Or do you want to say that the telcos aren't making profit since they adopted per second billing? It is glaring that you have got nothing to say. Government will regulate them, anyone that doesn't want to be regulated can leave. France recently came up with special taxes for the big ICT companies, operating in France, some of which are from the US....what happened? Isn't it a way for France to get more value for the overall benefit of her citizens? |

CoolAmbience: I don't need awards to prove my level or depth of entrepreneurship. You are the one brandishing awards up and down like it's some bragging right and one thing I know for sure is people that are quick to tie their achievement to some phoney awards esp in business are as they say "empty vessels" Also, I guess i made a mistake even replying your initial post. I should have gone through your profile like I normally do before clicking the quote button. Continue to wallow in your self pity of entrepreneurship awards and clamour for free Telco data when the govt should be giving you much more. I do business across two continents and I know when I say that the recipe for any economic disaster is for govt to try and micro manage the economy to the point of price control like they are trying to do for the debt and capital markets. The irony is they are not even doing this for social services like health, education security etc. But for telco data so the short sighted gullible award winning Nigerians like your self will say they are working. Like the reduction in data prices will renovate the bad roads tackle security problems or even improve the power larcuna. Go to the industrial hubs around the country and see the infrastructure gap there and compare with those abroad or evrn in other African states. Take a visit to Rwanda and see how govt has made it so easy for people to invest there. This is my last post in this matter. Reduce or not I am very fine and yes .....God bless Nigeria! 1 Like |

CoolAmbience: So you're saying as a business owner, if your cost of operation is N50 as at today and you charge N60, you would still charge N60 when it becomes N100 tomorrow? Clamouring for a reduced price is good, but you need to also consider my cost of operation. Would you be giving me diesel or feul at a subsidized rate or even tax? 2 Likes |

ornicus:In a country like ours, why is it that all our Telecom giant scam Nigerians on data? Who determines the final price of services and how come no one can sue MTN, GLO, Airtel etc for scaming them off data usage? How come our banks charge a double digit interest rate on lending? And how come banks don't make the bulk of their profits from lending to small scale businesses? A monopoly doesn't mean just one business outfit determining the price of their commodities. A monopoly could be up to 10 companies as long as they can all cooperate to arrive at an unfair minimum bench mark for cost price of commodities. Such is the case of our DISCOS, Telecoms, Gas companies etc. Don't forget that per second billing was impossible for MTN until Glo came along. Don't forget that SIM cards were sold at N32,000 at a point. This happens because there was no regulation from the government (as they were the primary beneficiary of such bogus charges). Thank God we don't all depend on waterworks for our water supplies: we'll have been buying it at N1000 per litre. In summary, the people in government cooperates with these conglomerates to rob us of our money. |

ornicus:Are you saying Nigerians doesn't deserve better...this kinda your mental make up is disturbing and it does nothing but portrays your inferiority complex as an individual. As a matter of fact to regulate price is one of the reason s why you have a regulator after the privatisation of a sector or sub sector cos business people are in the market to make profits often horrendous and the regulator is there to protect citizens cum consumers and what they do is to provide a realistic template, a win-win situation for everybody. Every patriotic Nigerians not like yourself is painstakingly aware that some telcos are milking the citizenry so the need for this initiative...hope you are schooled a little bit Take it ignorance ain't good, what's worst is thinking you know when infact you are dummy |

SC31: What's this N50, N60 and N100? You mean you didn't get the simple analogy that I made? And you think government doesn't understand COGS and pricing? Do you have the slightest idea of the profits these telcos post annually? Before Glo came, didn't the telcos make it appear impossible, or rather unprofitable, to execute per second billing? What happened afterwards? How much was a sim card 15 years or more years ago? How much is it now? Almost free right? Has the reduction caused them to close shops? Do you know about business models? Have their business models remained the same over the past decade? I mean, don't they have way more product offerings now than they did 7 to 10 years ago? Did you consider that perhaps if the Communication sector was not 'averagely' regulated as it is, sim cards would not come as cheap as they do today? The question you asked is rather elementary. No one is saying that they should sell at their cost of production. So, your question is needless. Have you imagined that certain businesses produce at N30 and sell at 3 or 4 times the price. This happens everyday, especially in poorly regulated sectors? Have you imagined that the Communication Ministry would have analysed these details and found ground to explore negotiations with the telcos for a possible downward review of charges? |
