There is nothing wrong with laminating certificate. The issue is it must be done well. a functional machine that heats well and ensure all edges are sealed and air tight. My certificate has been laminated since 1997 and in good, clear condition. Also keep it in a dry place

Do not give people bad advice..... OP has learned the hard way... and here you are leading people down the same path. No doubt.... a Mama Put outfit would accept laminated certificates. Original documents should not be laminated period.

Pls I need answers.

I have never use my waec certificate because I have 2 deficiencies on it, so I have been using my NECO from different seating all this while.

NB

The Neco that I am using, I reseated it the following year after my secondary school graduation in an entirely different school. I didn't even bother to collect my WAEC original certificate from the school I graduated from.

Should I be worried?

Would they require my WAEC certificate even with the deficiency in the future?

I need answers pls
Maybe, you never can tell. But you should have sat for GCE,i think that one is tenable anywhere, even outside Nigeria.

Well biodunpro, I do not know how you managed to know that I had two different DOB on my credentials, because you weren't the recruiter and I didn't see you handle my credentials today. But there's one thing that I know,....altering my DOB is a damage to my integrity and I am not ignorant of that.

Lastly, even if I have passed the age for jobs in Nigeria, I have skills that I can fall back to. So please before you clout chase, get your facts right. Cheers

Sorry about what happened OP.
You must be very downcast. HRs are usually overwhelmed and go ridiculous lengths to shortlist applicants.

Lots of organisations verify those things, laminated or not. Some mind, I know many that do not not mind.

Take it as one of those things we see while jobhunting. Not everyone is successful with their first, you just have to keep trying and learning from every recruitment experience.

op! you do not have to respond to everyone trying to drag you on the floor before potential employer as this may even be an interview itself because people all over the world are reading your situation, I pray you make it in life.

what are your qualifications?
what other skills do you have?
what experience do you have?
and in what area?
these information may help potential employers make decision here in your favour.

Pls contact WAEC office for guidance. But as far as I know, if the "future" you are worried about starts and ends in Nigeria, then both WAEC and NECO are 'eminently qualified' as SSCE.

Greetings to you my fellow nairalanders,

My heart is filled with tears as I type this because today, the devil used Mr Joel in the recruit department of workforce group to be the stumbling blocks to my breakthrough.

I went for an interview with workforce group gbagada, and during my credentials check, Mr Joel accused me of tampering with my D.O.B on my Waec certificate just because it was laminated and the ink looks faint. Mind you the D.O.B on my O'Level corresponded with my ID card and my birth certificate.

I tried to prove my innocence, but rather he chased me away from his desk, and that was how I lost the job as I wasn't interviewed. I almost cried right in front of everyone there, because I have been searching for a job for months now and this happened.

I don't know who needs to hear this but please, do not laminate your credentials, so that you can be able to defend the authenticity of it when your recruiters touch them.

A young man in the name of Ayo who also works in that department saw how downcast I was and walk up to me and encouraged me not to be troubled, that something big will come my way. Thank you Ayo for your word of encouragement. God bless you, I believe something big will come, and when it does I'll share the news.

Thank you too Mr Joel, you were only doing your job. Cheers

Please move to front page.

Date of birth on waec certificate should never be an issue for any serious recruiter, I mean you had your birth certificate, and ID document both of which are more than O'level which is even usually prone to errors in DOB.

Please disregard Joel or whatever his name is, the devil just used him, and workforce is just a recruiter o, I guess they're recruiting for another company, please pay no attention to what happened today, keep your head high and look towards what is to come.

Believe me companies that matter pay no mind to these frivolities, I'm telling you from experience. It wasn't the lamination or the unclear date if birth that disqualified, it's the raging egomaniac of a man. But it's good you don't laminate your other certificates in the future....

O'level is O'level, both weac and neco are equal. But what kind of deficiency are you talking about here?

If the laminated certificate is the problem, call somebody or his attention to the proper authority for verification.
Especially if this is your dream job.

I find it hard that you will just give it up so easily. I hope it is not too late.

Not everyone with a non laminated certificate will get a job, you could be one if yours was not laminated. BTW, I have worked in 4 different places with a laminated certificate. He only used elimination method to reduce the stress you would have passed through.
Relax..... Your job will come.

My brother everything is wrong o...you can't use a laminated document for visa processing. They will just render it invalid.

Hmmm, are you sure about this? While it's not advisable to laminate certificates (Laminating one's certificate can make it impossible to be verified under UV light for example), but I don't think any right thinking person will totally void the certificate altogether.

I laminated my O'levels then out of euphoria (I was younger), no one has ever complained about them up till now...but my bachelor's and postgrads I did not laminate.

You are even gonna be seconded to a client company as a contract staff so why the worry?
It might not make sense to you now but after 6months of very low pay, u will wish you never got the job. Rubbish! Better cheer up

Get a copy from WAEC portal and print it out. I do not know if that will include your date of birth, but it should though.

But do not be hard on yourself. Most these HR guys feel they are demigods. A friend was interviewed by them at Total. He got all their answers right but one that he didn't get right was used to disqualify him. Dude went on to get a B.Sc first class, left Nigeria for them and currently in Canada.
