TPound: Some telecommunications equipment are very costly . If you have a CIF value of 860,000,000 and you are paying 10% of that . how much is that Lots of communication companies pay duties running into billions of naira. 1 Like |

That is BUSINESS between customs and clearing agents. No wonder they always like stopping fresh tokunboh cars on the highway. This is the first time I am fully understanding this trick. Customs should not impound any car until they clearly tell the masses and importers how to know the exact duty payable for a car. Give us the account numbers, we all know where the bank is. Until then, custom is assisting clearing agents to defraud government 4 Likes |

“In that circumstance, our client swiftly put a call across to the respondent (Innocent) who actually admitted not paying full duty on the vehicle, consequent upon which the respondent quickly made a transfer of N70,000 to our client for onward payment to the customs officers and latter got the vehicle released.” NIGERIA. |

The customs should simplify the duty calculations and payment so that the importers would be able to know the exact duty payable and possibly effect payment by themselves Perfect idea but they will not accept. I paid N1million twice to two different agents for one 20ft container still didn't get my goods. When I went to tincan myself to clear the goods, the customs still insist i bring my agent even after explaining that agents have already collected my money. I think customs are sharing with agents 2 Likes |

OBAGADAFFI: Very true . its only condoms that has 0 duty . that does not mean you won't pay some other component of taxes Very funny abi Constant delays at the port rest squarely on the custom . if they Dont release from the system is a big problem and they Dont care about demurrage , but by the time you stand your ground that you have done your own part by paying correct duty or you petition the service that is when they know you are serious. Other agencies can also frustrate you the likes of NAFDAC, NDLEA, SON, CIU, Enforcement, FOU . FOU , they can frustrate the hell out of you when you must have paid the actual , they will stop you just to extort you , but if you are not in a hurry without minding demurrage charges it will be worth the while . 1 Like |

Custom should simplify duty payment by posting3duty payable on their website where importers can access it . The payment too should be via Remita, or is Custom not on TSA? That should solve the problem of shortchanging the government 1 Like 1 Share |

During GEJ PAAR was introduced and it eliminated the use of scanning machines at Apapa port and the commission of 1% FOB became PAAR VALUE to customs and the former CG WAS alledged to have embezzled 42billion naira from the scheme. I later read he entered allocutus with the EFCC. That was the end of it all So much waste, duplication of agencies and large scale corruption pervades our economic sphere |

OBAGADAFFI: I bet you if you can stand your ground all the time they will avoid you like plague. Bad jobs - contraband , ammmunition get faster clearance , the custom will be the one to escort the goods out of the port . If its a good job - full duty paid they dont like it. Bad jobs gives them pot bellies |
