My point is, if there are no terrorists there troops won't conduct fighting patrol there and they won't be ambushed there.

I was talking about the last 9 years as bidixiii stated.

Not the one in May 2009

Regardless out of the 3 crashes and 2 hard landings only one was adjudged to be pilot error......4 out 5 due to mechanical error....says alot!!!

SAAF A-109 crashes are mainly a result of pilot error.

Three pilot-error CFIT crashes during low-level tactical flight operations or training. Two mechanical failures in 2010 (later corrected) causing hard landings: A swash plate control rod break & a tail rotor failure. The cause of the April 2019 crash has not yet been released.

Have you seen the structural damage on the image? Helicopters are also made of composite materials, you cant fix them like a car by just putting a patch over broken parts. An airframe is stressed extremely during each flight, even hairline cracks will finally damage the aircraft in short time if not found. (Thats why they do these X-ray inspections during their servicetimes)

RIP AW 109

Exactly! You can't tell the extent of structural damage to the fuselage by that one pic.

1. Uhm No
2. "location and type of impact indicate mechanical failure, either of the engine, gearbox or tail rotor"

- 4022: Crashed May 2009- cause pilot error 3 killed
- 4024: Hard landing November 2010- cause mechanical failure
- 4021: Hard landing December 2010-cause mechanical failure
- 4018: Crash March 2013- Cause believed to be pilot error as well as faulty night navigational equipment
- 4013: Crash November 2016 - cause mechanical error
- 4006: Crash April 2019 - cause mechanical error

I agree 100% however I do feel Nigeria don't have any credible conventional threats at this moment to warrant spending money on tanks!! Personally I would rather see that money spent on assets that would be better suited for battling unconventional threats..... However I would definitely advocate the purchase of 4th gen multi role fighters like the Jf17(more than 3 though) which won't only be a great conventional deterrent but will also be a great force multiplier when battling irregular forces as well.

Budget being the major determinant I'd have gone for 5 or 6 rebuilt Su 25s for that price.

The military base of the armed forces of Mali was attacked by the #ISWAP jihadists. Scores of Malian soldiers are reportedly killed, can't post the pictures.
Am not surprised seeing Malian ISWAP wearing our woodland camouflage.

Note array of arms they are with... Armbrust anti-tank launcher, AKM/AKMS/AK-47/AK-103, PKM, AGL etc.

Anyways some of them are already kissing the ass of there 72 virgins.

I could see some Hesco sandbags in the pictures. However, they are not tall enough.

And you could actually see the terrorists using their barriers against them just like we see in most ISWAP attacks on NA bases. Barriers surrounding a base should be high enough so that people don't lean on it and shoot the heck out of the people within the base.

The fact that they attacked over large flat terrain speaks to leadership challenges in the Malian army.
Very careful NOT to speak or criticize military operations that information is scant on.
I am sure in the coming days we will find out how this base was overrun.

Are you know Kidding me.....?
What's wrong with a flat terrain, in fact that's should be an advantage to the soldier defending the Base. And this is not just a flat terrain/base, a well protected one. Am sure it was formerly used by French soldiers, now been used by the Malian forces.

The issue is most African soldiers morale are low and considering the poor training.
Going by the pictures am seeing, the Base protection/height is okay. They have centenary/observing post which they should have spotted the attack miles away.
The rule is never let these guys get close to you, hEll they will brake your line of defence and confusion will set in, especially in the night.
Considering the picture and time of the attack if am right, says a lot about our military

90% of their weaponry are trophies from overran military bases.

Current priority imo is ground attack for which the -25 Is tailor made. Also the price factor.

Exactly!! With the Jf17 you get a decent multi role platform which can carry PGMs and practically do everything the su25 can do but can also serve as an air superiority fighter if needed.

Also the Jf17 isn't that expensive

Chad has 3 Mig29 on order, one of which is already in service.

At this stage NAF has nothing to stop even 1 Mig29.

This morning, I experienced Joy troops moving out, I suspect that they are troops of 6BN FOB Bonny based on the description on their vehicle.. it was a large number of soldiers, two trucks fully loaded and like 3-4 gun trucks.

But I was disappointed at the gun trucks sad angry... How can they have like 3 gun trucks without a Gpmg or Dshk or Pkm, they only had Ak's on them and the Soldier Manning the gun port placed his Ak there grin grin(I wanted to laugh oo..but they were not smiling with anybody) sad

They should be made not just high enough but in a way that the outside part of the barrier should be made very steep or perpendicular so that the insurgents will not be able to climb up easily. This is some of the advantages of Hesco sand bags.
