If you must start Jan, choose a program with course end date at least June/July 2021 i.e from 18/19 months upwards. The end date is reflected in the CAS as course end date.

You can finish your course but still not graduated.

This is exactly why i said you should not argue based on your limited knowledge about this, even courses that ends in Jan(still haven't seen one) You don't graduate that Jan, final project class/meetings starts. getting assigned supervisors etc takes place then actual project..at the end your graduation will be summer..this is why you are given 18months visa and not 16 as the case with Sept starters.

I'm yet to see any certificate carrying course end date rather than the graduation date on it, so i rather not take that as a statement of fact but i take your word for it.

I don't think that's enough time to be worried yet. Wait till the end of today or at least mid day tomorrow. You could send a mail with whatever receipt you got when you made payment, while you wait.

So someone can easily be denied in the US on the basis of insufficient ties and be given Visa in the UK because the person meets the requirements

Also in the US day you can be denied Visa for insufficient ties one day and get the Visa the next day . Their process is more subjective

There is need for further clarity on the application.
Only the ECO decides how long but stay hopeful.
