I Suffer From Stage Fright - Help by appreciate001(op): 9:43am On Nov 22, 2019
Hi Nairalanders greetings to you all. please can someone help me with solutions to this stage fright problem.

I Am in my late thirties married with children but this thing will not leave me alone. I have been battling with this all my life.

Just recently, I had a presentation to make but things were messed up because of this. I am a graduate but this is limiting my chances in life. What are the practical ways to overcome this problem? God bless you all.

start by performing in front of the mirror first. Then go out and be having a conversation with people you don't know at all

First, believe in yourself and believe that you are making sense.

Start by making presentation to yourself

To your family

To friends

Take up a teaching role in a Church, community etc.

To overcome a stage fright is to make yourself available for leadership responsibility

Be confident in yourself...if you know what you are saying you won't experience anything like stage fright.

I also had this issue when i was in my 100 level but i overcame it via adequate preparation...Also try to look above the heads of your audience and not directly into their eyes

Public speaking is fun the very first time I did it the crowd was so impressed by my confidence that they had to applaud my expertise, not knowing that yours truly was doing it for his first time. smiley

Alcohol

Outline your presentation and rehearse how you will want to be.

Start drinking 2 hours before presentation and think about how you were impressed with your presentation. (Insinuating)

When you drink to a point. You will stand up and walk towards that Hall anxious to dish out words and sentences.

What you need is first confidence, and trust in yourself.

One of the reason I did politics in school back then, and believe me it has really helped my career.

Do it infront of your family first, practice and then take it to your friends like 5 people and see how it goes....

You need practice and more practice. Know your material well as to be able to speak extempore. Also, make bullet points to remind you of your line of thoughts. Maintain eye contact with your audience, left to right and center.

Practice breathing excercise, and don't go for big grammar.

The best public speakers still get nervous before speaking and only get settled as they progress into the talk.

1. Prepare your presentation and rehearse it.

2. Understand that people you are presenting to are not out to get you.

3. Look at friendly places in the audience when called to present.

4. Stop being a wuss, go out there and get it done!

Even though I tend to have it once in while; my PHILOSOPHY is YOU and I make or form the crowd, so, why should I feel repressed in front of my kind huh undecided
OP, remember without you, there's no crowd cool
You are the CROWD, go up there and own the stage!
Happy New Year!!

Re: I Suffer From Stage Fright - Help by Nobody:
An understanding that you cant be perfect would help calm your nerves.
Erase negative thoughts from your mind and focus on what you want to deliver..
It may be helpful to have a dress rehearsal befor the presentation. Practise the presentation to your mirror, your wife or better still, make a video of yourself during practise. That would help you balance your standing posture with your facial expression..
If you cant stand people's gaze, then dont look into their eyes during your presentation, look ontop their bald head grin or imagine that they're all babies who are listening innocently and know nothing..
Lastly, no one was born a great orator it's an art which can be acquired from practise and self motivation.

Start practicing to yourself alone first before you plan of confronting a crowd from there you will gain a bit confidence.. then you move to second stage of performing in front of your partner and children who serve as crowd .. with this you will overcome stage fright...
