A Nigerian man who got to UK in 2016 with just 2 travelling bags is full of thanks to God as he just became a landlord in England. He shared the good news on social media saying God gave me a house.

anyone with a good JOB can become a landlord in the UK within 3yrs... its called MORTGAGE, and has absolutely nothing to do with god.

edit: and if this guy is indeed a doctor in the UK, he could get a mortgage within 2yrs or less. some banks/lenders only require as little as 6 months employment with the same company to accept your application.

Okay and so? Do you feel intimidated or inferior, because the fact that ‘anyone’ can become a landlord, yet most people in the U.K. are renting doesn’t make sense to me.

it makes plenty of sense to me....
1st you have to find the proper house that will fit your budget, and sadly the UK housing market isnt helping.
2nd most people rent in the UK because they dont have a good employment history or credit, to afford the house they want to buy. expecting to get a mortgage while you have credit up to your neck to repay (car, home appliances, gadgets, credit cards etc) isnt helping the matter....
but most importantly, 3rd, to many people, its easier/cheaper/less hassle to rent than buy a property in the UK.

So like I said, if all these things are hindrances which many people face, why are you discrediting this mans achievement within two years? Do you know how difficult it is to have a good credit in the u.k? With all the bills and debt that will come your way no matter how hard you try. One missed payment and your credit is affected. Give credit where it’s due please .

this is by no means an achievement... any gainfully employed person living within their means in the UK can get a mortgage...the achievement would be to finish paying that said mortgage and having at the end, a house whose value is more than what you paid for.

if you live within your means and have a good job, then its very easy... but sadly in this days of social media BS, everyone wants to pretend to be who they are not, and getting a credit (to buy unnecessary BS) solves that. everyone wants to drive the latest car yet can only afford a 2010 model, so they get a car loan. everyone wants a fancy home will all brand new furniture etc yet can only afford a bed and sheets, so they get a loan. bank account is empty but they want to go on holiday, so they charge it on the credit card.

With all the bills and debt that will come your way no matter how hard you try. Give credit where it’s due please .

if you have bills and debts up to your neck, then the problem/issue is not CREDIT, the problem is YOU living above your means. you have to sit down and evaluate if taking a loan is good (or not) for you. a loan/credit is NOT free, at the end you are paying more than what you borrowed, so the reality is that you are paying MORE money for something that you couldnt afford from the get go.

now, let me say it again: if you have a good job that covers all your life's necessities (rent/food/bills/kids/clothing/fun etc) then a mortgage is the easiest thing to get in the UK... some will lend you money with a 6 months steady employer. now, if you live above your means and take credit for every nonsense under the moon then probably a mortgage is not for you.

Please stop being ridiculous. How much does the average person earn in the u.k? What do you mean good job, when graduates are even struggling and settling for administration jobs? How much does it cost to rent out a room one per month? What about transportation and food costs? What about bills, council tax, road tax and all these mandatory expenses that people must pay? This has nothing to do with living above your means, the fact is that it is almost nearly impossible to not live in debt in the U.K. Especially the capital which is London. It is effing expensive, so yes taking out a mortgage is an achievement on its own. £1 debt and you will be denied. It’s that simple. To even save up for a deposit for a mortgage is another thing. Quit downplaying people’s success.

i am serious! too many people are blaming whatever irrelevant nonsense when talking about this issue, while the problem is very simple....its YOU.
the reality is that... if you cant live in London then you shouldnt. London is an expensive city, if you cant make it in London then move to a cheaper city, et voila.... staying in London while fully well knowing that you cant make it, is called insanity (and you know what the definition of insanity is, right?)

yes there is a clear unemployment problem all over Europe (not only the UK) but you cant blame all the above expenses as a reason to take unnecessary loans. you will have these expenses all over the UK, so if you only earn 300 a week, then find a place where you can survive on your weekly 300 without having to kill yourself.... and if your monthly expenses are more than your monthly salary, then you MUST either A) find a better job B) find a way to lower your monthly expenses or C) move to a cheaper city (less rent/transport/food etc).

la vida loca is the life everyone wants to live... by attaining what they dont have the means to get.

ok, the thing is there's a lot more awareness these days about buying a house, compared to before when people preferred to rent.

And as folks who are in tune with globalization, continue to migrate elsewhere and earn incomes, they'll probably look into buying houses earlier than previous immigrants.
