Having saved up some amount of money, I am considering quitting my job and getting acquainted with an IT skill.

There is this friend of mine, who is a Web designer, developer, programmer and even a graphic designer; the guy is quite good (he started learning all these from a very young age).

When I contacted him and asked him to teach me Web development, he said OK, but his fee is 120k for three months. I opened my mouth in shock.

Well, long story short, I negotiated, and he finally cut down the price to 80k saying it's because we are friends. He said he would be teaching me Css, Html, Java script and NodeJs. I don't know Jack about all of that, I have only built sites with WordPress, but I feel the price is still too high.

Are there cheaper options for me or should I just go with him?

The image below are list of stuffs I downloaded from there few months ago. Total is 65GB and So help me God, I have mastered 2 out of it. Though I have unlimited internet access at work, so it was easier to download them.

So it all depends on what you want to decide here.

Bros EDX dey, YouTube dey, For Dummies books dey, Coursera dey, W3 dey why the hell will you pay 80k most I see self ask for only 20-30k chai for only css, html and javascript and NodeJs rubbish my man. At the end some people can't teach well so if you feel safer with a paid course plural sight offers courses for game development about 80k a year (or more now checked last in April) this means web dev would be cheaper so please no go kill yaself.

Don't quite your job.
A bird in the hand is better than thousands in the forest. Although this doesn't mean we shouldn't go looking for more/bigger birds because we have one at hand.

Long story short, 80k three month lecture wouldn't transform you. Anyone who tells you that you will become a productive programmer by 3 months is playing a fast one on you.
Most time investment in programming is majorly about time. Time and practice will help you understand what and what you need to know to be a good web dev.

My Advice:
Go to w3school.com and try to learn the fundamentals of the languages your friends tell you. Get pdf books and learn properly.
This will build your foundation and open your eyes but still it might not make you proficient.

From this if you're still interested, you can then tell your so-called friend to teach you what and what you need to know.

Learning web from an organization or friend etc is best when you know what and what you need to learn about.

My opinion
If your friend is planning to teach you the whole package of web dev. I must warn you of a pitfall. Web dev isn't a one man job.

Forget the people who offer to teach for less you'll regret later. Anyone who offers to teach web development for less is a clear proof of incompetence.
My advice?
Go with your friend.
Why?
Because he's already making a decent living off web development.
At the end of the day he'll help you with jobs and connections.

Yes if you have time very well. The video is well self-explanatory. All you need is to practice upon practice.

HTML, CSS, JavaScript, bootstrap, wordpress, jQuery, NodeJs, ES6, jQuery mobile, all these are consisted in the study pack.

All you need is time to dedicate to study them.

you're welcome, you can start of by learning front-end Dev on web. This is for people who have a nice sense of style and good eye for app and web.

If coding is too hard for you, learn web design(graphics) e.g UX/UI or tools for building logo and amazing images.
But UX/UI is hot cake.

Well, it takes few to be a master of this because it's takes a great journey to achieve this. At least 2years, and this is what Andela teaches her interns for over 24months.

So, in conclusion, it's not too much for one person that's ready for the journey, all is needed is focus and perseverance.

It's bloody frustrating man and uneasy to master chai. You have no control over the design ahn and if you use ui program to do drag and drop
the code quickly spins out of control so yes it takes time.. And is difficult but there are other programming beasts that are tough to master e.g Assembly. So web development is really not that hard so if you put your mind to it. Especially css you'll master it.

It will cost you the use of your brain more.

I learnt the first stage with a total of 70k

But help yourself by learning HTML and CSS online. Those two are quite easier to learn than its counterparts like JavaScript and PHP.

This is 2019.
You don't need to go to anyone's house or "school" to learn how to develop for the web.

However, here are some of the things that learning would have to cost you
- A laptop
- Internet
- Light

Referencing one of my previous posts


You can start with web development

1. Go on YouTube and type
"Introduction to web development"
Watch a few videos to get an intro on what to do to get started

2. Visit W3Schools.com and go through some of their tutorials on HTML and CSS

3. Google mini projects you can work on with HTML and CSS

4. Learn responsive web design, with Flexbox and/or grid

5. Repeat step 3

6. Learn JavaScript and make sure to understand it's intricacies. Build some projects with it and make sure to understand the DOM

7. Pick any framework. I recommend React and learn

8. Work on react projects

9. Apply to jobs

10. Get a job


All of the above steps seem easy, but to be honest, they are not
Make sure to code everyday and try to understand what you are doing
Make sure to use stackoverflow when searching for answers
Timebox yourself for these steps above.
Ideally, with 25 hours a week for the next 3 months, you should be good

25 hours: {3 hours per day from Monday to Friday, 5 hours during weekends}

Learnt it for free, in my spare time.

In my opinion, your friend is greedy and exploitative. As long as you have good Internet, you can get the resources for all these by yourself.

In the age of information you should not be paying for these things

Lynda.com and udemy have video tutorials for everything.
