Why didn't Gowon arrest all those that took part in the pogrom and killings of Igbo and eastern officers and civilians, to show he was there to save the nation and to work for the good of all.

Believe it or not, it was that act that emotionally and psychologically severed Igbos and easterners from the rest of Nigeria. It is deeply spiritual.

When Nzeogwu, Ademoyega and Ifeajuna did their coup, Ironsi arrested and detained all those involved in the act. Gowon did not touch any of the people who were involved in the killing of the innocent easterners, and in fact worked well with all of them, and had them retained and promoted in the army. Gowon will not escape justice. He's a part and parcel of the devilishness that seems to be afflicting Nigeria, even as I write.
So if easterners see themselves as non-Nigerians, the wanton condoning of acts against Igbos have solidified this. I guess that is why northerners are scared shitless of an Igbo man becoming the president, as northerners know Igbos are not scared of them, and could well dig up this episode and hand appropriate punishments to those who organised pogroms, BUHARI INCLUDED

you are delusional and foolish to have said that Ironsi arrested the coup plotters, you think we are idiots and don't know history!! In fact, the main genesis of the counter coup was the reluntancy of Ironsi to arrest the coup plotters for a period of 6 months.. most of them were even celebrated and given a heroes welcome by ur people after the coup.. Ironsi was only playing smart by half, he showed a tacit support and symphaty to the likes of Nzeogwu and ifeajuna by foot dragging their arrest
