As a nigerian doctor coming to the US to practice u wont be allowed to just practice like that. You will write a sort of exam they call the US medical licencing exam(USLME).The ones who are succesful in the exams are then retrained.Nigerian doctors overall they try cos if u see am we lack facilities in naija.you can imagine in some govt hospitals they have to perform surgery with chinese rechargable touchlights and candles cos no light and no diesel to power the generators. but then there some naija doctors wey dey fuk up and give a bad image about doctors in naija.

They are retrained after their passing exams again?

Stop saying what you don't know man!

Had a serious health issue years back, that required immediate diagnosis. I really doubted if I was going to last the next 24 hours......Then the government hospital scheduled my appointment for 3 month's time.

Private hospitals will always give value for money. Very friendly doctors and motherly nurses. The Young nurses are always beautiful too.

Some of these posts are just insane.

Did you really schedule an outpatient appointment when you knew you had less than 24 hours. What then is the purpose of Accident and Emergency??

People make stupid decisions and put the blame on doctors.

Mr man, if you feel you have an immediately life threatening condition, show up at A&E, no one will turn you back,.

They killed my father few months ago, we rushed him to the hospital they said no deposit no treatment, at around 1am in the morning with no atm card.

And yes, it's a private hospital.

Nigeria has failed a lot of people, don't blame people wanting to run away, nothing works in this country

RIP dad

What is the name of the hospital and which State is it located?

Shielding them allows them to continue this bad practice

I have met good doctors and outrightly nasty ones who want to vent their frustration on you.

I have discovered that its mostly young/ fresh doctors that always have this attitude issue, the senior ones tend to be more professional.

True selfless LEGEND

May be She didn't work in a govt hospital...

I was recently posted to a govt hospital. I decided to ask an ADNS why Nigeria Drs/Nurses are hostile? She said the bad treatment of Nigeria Govt causes the diversion of aggression.

She said so many Drs and Nurses have left work, because they found better offer abroad.

my people perish for lack of knowledge. Comparing children ibuprofen to that of adult

Drugs are administered based on weight and patient's condition

Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that's typically used in children to treat fever or pain. ... “If you give a larger dose than your child's weight can handle, this can lead to kidney problems and also stomach issues

Happened to a very good friend of mine:

One girl slept didn't wake up and was rushed to the hospital. The doctors ran tests, and did all they could (in their illiterate mind) before confirming her dead.

The mum however refused the hospital moving her daughter to the mortuary, insisting she was alive. Now when someone dies a final injection is given to the corpse before the body is moved. The mum fought tooth and nail against it's administration.

The family ordered one of their doctor sons in the USA to come back and run a final check on his sister. He took an immediate flight and arrived a few days later. Now note throughout all this the girl's body was covered on the hospital bed like a dead corpse.

Dude came in, didn't even need any fancy equipment, just checked her body and confirmed.....SHE WAS ALIVE!!!! He ordered specific tests, gave her some injections after which she regained conciousness.

The incident still scares me to this day. If not the family had him, the hospital would have killed their daughter. How many people who are in a worst financial situation have suffered a worst fate?

God help us.

So how is the girl doing now?

One said I had appendicitis and they will have to perform an operation on me.
My mom was already very worried about how the operation will go then my dad decided we should try another hospital. Poor man didn't want to pay huge on an operation.
I got diagnosed for Typhoid fever and got treated.
15 years later, I'm still kicking.
I still have the thought I needed the surgery cos all I had was high fever, headache and zero pain in my stomach. But, I got operated on for appendicitis. The shots I got in the morning made me kicking by afternoon which I believe are for typhoid and malaria. Oh , well

Reading thru life time experiences of clients with Nigerian doctors, has reinforced the need for we D doctors to swallow our pride and readjust to offer excellent service to our patient. To the patient we are so sorry. The pride of every doctor is to receive positive feedback from the client after medical engagement or consultation. More so Our practice recognized Strength and weakness ( talking about specialty and attention to details). A smart Dr should equally concentrate on such area of strength etc

First of all, all praises and Thanksgiving to God that I am healthy and alive...amen

Had a major surgery some month ago, it was a private hospital at ibadan, the specialist doctor and the nurses (very useless set of medical practitioners) , the MD nice lady.

1. After surgery no medical report about d procedure was given to me.
2. After some months I went for medical check-up at another hospital and d doctor requested for the report of the surgical procedure , I requested for it via phone call and email, and there was no response till date.
3. During the surgical procedure d specialist doctor keep asking for bribe , and so the nurses too. When they found out that I wouldn't be given them much , the mean treatment began, to give drip or injection became wahala, they look for vein in my hands as if I was an animal that wouldn't feel pain.
4. No change of my bedsheet for days . After paying upfront for the whole package o

And many more....

Naaa...the Nigerian medical system and staffs still have alot to learn from their counterparts in the world, lack of empathy and lack of equipments still reign supreme in our health system...may God help us amen

Once again, God I thank you for being alive and healthy amen

They were just using that woman as a scapegoat.

Her supervisor didnt show up and left her to look after like 50 patients alone. Then they allowed him to fly back to Ireland

The staff swapped the boy to another bed without informing her. The bed they moved him to had an order saying not to resuscitate if the patient fell unconscious and thats how he died

The people who wanted to sack her are a bunch of racists.

If you're a doctor, then you're above all daft for trying to explain things to Nigerians. Nigerians are known for their rashness and see meticulous people as dull & stvpid.

If it doesn't sound scandalous, it's bullshit in the average Nigerian's ear.

Stoo wasting your time with them. Just endure them till you get enough dou to write your exams & leave, or better still own your establishment or business.

we have good numbers of them both at the private hospitals and the government hospitals. I was well attended to at UCH in Ibadan, and the Doctors are more concerned about your well-being, so they will rather let you run enough test to determine what the sickness is all about than taking a guess.

I had typhoid based on the test result... And the Doctor's only solution is drip.
Even before the test result came out, he already put me on drip.

He was about to give me the 5th drip in just 2 days... When my brothers refused.

The man is notorious for giving people drip.

I heard someone fell into a well, upon the person's rescue and taken to the same hospital the doctor was busy administering drips!

Imagine! Someone rescued from inside water and yet being hammered with water grin grin grin

He is right.

Pass USLME exams. Then if lucky, get Residency placement of minimum 3 years. Then one can do fellowship (for specialists).

To practice in US as a doctor trained in Nigeria will take about 6 years for very intelligent and "lucky" ones.

I was diagnosed with a god forsaken illness in a private hospital, can't believe I live in that fear for like two years until I later visited a government. Then I was told nothing is wrong with 'me.

I have had multiple bad experiences with Nigerian doctors.

I have been misdiagnosed and struggled with health issues as a result of bad diagnoses.
However, I strongly believe that with a well regulated health industry, equipments, training and adequate pay, Nigerian doctors can easily perform better than their peers anywhere in the world.

This brings me back to what I’ve always said; Nigeria can never be a successful country until we have more middle class than poor people.

The poverty of the majority poor will make it difficult for any industry to flourish in Nigeria including the health sector.[/b]

Hmmmm....

I had a surgery sometime in 2015 in a federal hospital at Abuja, on the surgical bed the doctor meant to fix the drip on my hand kept puncturing my hands and he did so in a very mean manner. A colleague of his asked him to calm down and he started ranting about how someone brushed his car and pulled out the bumper. After that, I needed to go for post surgery treatment. On that particular day I was having this severe headache that ran through my spine and couldn't sit for long as a result Anastasia administered on me. I pleaded with this same premature doctor to allow me see the consultant as I was in sefia pains. This dude was so rude and asked me if I'm the first person to be in pains. I just told him that ''guy even as I am in pains, if I hear Pim from your mouth again, I'll gather my last strength and beat you up'' the guy just waka jejely as me ma don mean am since the day I had the surgery when he used my hands for acupuncture practice. Eventually I saw the chief consultant who told me to drink more water to wash down the effect of the Anastasia and spend more time lying down as against sitting up for the mean time. He also scolded him for not knowing what to do to relieve my pains. I just thank God he wasn't the chief consultant.... I for no see my breakthrough in life.

So, your grievance is that the poor doctor is trying to insert a cannula for you so he can give you some fluids intravenously, then you report him to the consultant who reiterated that you needed fluids -- which the doctor was doing already. Can you not see there's no sense in your post, and yet numerous people have liked it because they're biased against doctors.

My friend, doctors can't transfer fluids from the drip to your veins magically. They need to put a cannula first, and often, this may have to be tried multiple times before one is successfully inserted. If you're in pain, ask "I'm hurting all over, I don't think I can take one more attempt", "is there someone else who could try?" But if you come with your attitude, then that's a problem. Knowing Nigerians, you would criticise the doctor in your husky voice, and order him to bring the chief consultant and you expect a hug and a kiss.
