Hello hopefuls,

There was a sitting between the House committee on public complaints and GMD Nnpc regarding the recruitment sometime last week, another one is scheduled for 11th December, 2019. What I learnt is that the committee are in support of contract staffs being adopted as permanent staffs, while the GMD gave reasons to the contrary. But this is just what I heard as it might not be the reason APL hasn’t been released yet.

As it stands, there seems to be a superior argument in favor of Contract Staff within the Mgt circle. This is for a number of reasons amongst which is the fact that they already have requisite hands-on experience/training over the years. So, Why hire new EHs when you have already expended resources to train Contract Staff?

As such, they’re considering proceeding with GTs and shelving EH applicants. No final resolution has been made yet as they’re still weighing the options and having meetings.

In the end, there might just be some middle-ground agreement.. take from here and there.

N.B - they seem to have more connections than us, if at all we do. Lol

How did they get employed as contract staff in the first place? Any nationally advertised process for them to join the corporation at any time? Just want to understand it better!

The people hearing things/fighting in favor of conversion of contract staff (assuming all this is true) and the contract staff have their way, and an EH applicant sue's the corporation, which defense will they have as to why they made such applicants waste resources in pursuing the recruitment?

If Nnpc wants to give in to each of these "implorations" from various quarters instead of duly completing this process, there will be no end to petitions, they'll really get their hands dirty. My thoughts.

I don’t know what their strength in number is but I don’t believe all advertised expertise could have been covered by the job descriptions of contact staff. So maybe there’ll be trade-offs. Some of them got DPR and left. Some will probably go with the ‘ongoing’ PEFMB & PPPRA recruitment. Some already applied and did interview with us.

But really, the issue standing in the doorway is this debacle.

The GMD is probably in a tight corner. He has been a union person which typically will be group behind the contract staff. The DPR 2016 recruitment was same story as they clearly didnt want EHs.

On the other hand the immediate past GMD who was most likely instrumental in ensuring the baton was passed to MKK resisted the pressure for contract staff to be given preferential treatment in the process. He outrightly insisted that they - contract staff go through the entire process. MKK has more or less continued to run with ex-GMDs programmes across board including the management team but this recruitment - “project eagle” get as e be as it is clearly filled with so many “vultures”. The pressure, drama and politics requires uncommon wisdom.

May God give him the wisdom he needs to take the tough but justified decisions for the overall benefit of everyone.

But why should NNPC even go public with a recruitment process If they knw they needed contract staffs? Nnpc didn’t know they can just permanent them? Or were they promised permanent jobs from the beginning? It’s simple guess I think even NNPC knw they cant rely on contract staffs they need new people to come on board. It’s just the Nigerian factor. Ppl pushing for their interest.

The mistake NNPC made was unionizing the contract staff. They pay union dues too, at least in some SBU I know. In the long run the contract staff have their legs in all corners of NNPC from management cadre, union member e.t.c.
In the end the GMD has the final say regardless of the consequences that would follow.

The numbers don't add up. If EHs are cut out and contracts converted, there'll be a shortage requiring more contract staff to take the place of the former.
Such a precedent wud perpetuate the cycle of contract staffing and conversion and there'll be no more recruitment of full staff. Someone pls correct me...

The reason organisations recruit from time to time is to bring in, intelligent and vibrant employees with fresh ideas, it's not just for the sake of recruiting. Why do you think the Corporation has somewhat not attained the desired or required heights that's expected? The answer is obvious. The GMD knows this, that's why he embarked on massive restructuring across the corporation.

And, there are certain parameters that qualify one as EH, it's not just years of experience on the job, this issue with Contract staff, has always been there, no serious minded O&G would convert contract staff based on sentiments, not even NNPC. A big bro who works in the IT Department of NNPC joined as a contract staff, and he sat for the exams 3 times, he wasn't lucky on the first 2 occasions, but fortune smiled on him the 3rd time. There is a reason vacancies for Experienced Hire, were thrown open to the public, that's because NNPC wants the best they can get.

Lastly, fresh and innovative ideas are what keep organisations in business and ahead of competition, that's why bringing in New EH is always paramount to the survival and progress of world-class organisations. If the contract staff want to be made permanent staff, let them go through the recruitment process. This entitlement mindset is why NNPC has still not been able to achieve it's vision of becoming a Worldclass O&G Corporation.

I don't expect the management of NNPC to be making deliberations about this recruitment now.
There should be a standard policy of recruiting staffs that the Group NNPC HR should follow religiously.
Deliberating on this recruitment means either there is no standard policy or the GMD doesnt trust the GROUP HR to follow the policy or external influence in recruitment is a standard practice in NNPC.
If NNPC cancels this process, then we know there would never be a free and fair open recruitment for NNPC ever again.
