Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court, Lagos, on Thursday, sentenced a former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, to 12 years’ imprisonment.

Kalu was charged with N7.1bn fraud.

The court found him and his co-defendants guilty of the entire 39 counts filed against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Mr Kalu has been facing trial for over a decade after he was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly carting away billions of naira while he served as Abia State governor.
