Nigeria is hell for you not for countless people with multi-million naira businesses, six bedroom duplex, two other houses they collecy rent from, a gateman, two drivers and children attending 300k a term schools. Blame nobody but yourself, America you are running to got the highest number of homeless people. You will need to work 70 hours a week to be able to afford a one bed room apartment. That's what sound like hell to me

Dumbhead, let me school your ignorance and stupidity again.

Standard working hours per week in America is 40 hours weekly across the country as against the 70hour you falsely claimed. Except you want to do over time which is mostly additional 16 hours weekly and it comes at 1.5% increase of regular rates..

Now let me give you an estimate of a regular person working normal 40hours weekly and 16hours over time at the rate of $15 per hour which is the average here for unskilled and high school graduate.

40hours * 15 = $600 weekly.
16 hours *15* 1.5 = $360 weekly

Total = 960 weekly or 3,840 monthly. Working for 56 hours a week. Convert to naira equals approx of 1.4mil naira before tax.

Now let's calculate average working condition in Nigeria which is 7am to 7pm for people living in lagos which amount to 12hours daily.

Multiply by 5 working days = 60hours weekly assuming he decides to rest on weekend.

Average salary in lagos for young graduate is 80,000 naira and that amount to $219 monthly before tax. Its not even up to the overtime weekly wages in America.

Now let's go back to America. Average medicare, fed income tax and SS tax from the 3,840 should be approx 500bucks so, you are still left with about 3,300usd monthly.

My analysis is 100% accurate cos this is where I am.

Average one bedroom apartment cost $400 monthly where I stay. Light, Internet, waste, phone subscription and other bills don't cost up to $900 monthly. So on the average, such person would still save about $2,000 monthly.

Do I need to remind you that he will enjoy 24hours light, 24hours water, medical access, within that range which only upper class citizens in Nigeria can enjoy such. Tell an average 80k earner in Nigeria to power his generator for 24hours daily in a month and see if he won't stone you to death.

Unlike Nigeria that employs a master degree holder and pays 50k per month, there is a wage scale here in the state where I live, I'm sure it's the same for every other states in America. If you are a high school graduate, no firm pays you less than $10/hour irrespective of your job description. For a com college graduate, minimum is $15 per hour. For a degree holder, minimum is $18- 20 per hour. For professionals like MBA and other masters, minimum is about $25- 30 per hour.

Lets see another angle of your stupidity. In a country of approx 200million, how many percentage of the masses are the multi millionaire with 6 bedroom duplex, 2 other houses, hiring drivers and paying 300k per term for school fees?. Abi no be same lagos where its people live for years and still rent house. Even the cost of rent alone is a war, let alone building 6 bedroom.

Common 30,000naira minimum wage has been war. If its that easy for the country, the government will pay it at ease.

Lets see it from another angle. Majority of the houses springing up lately in Nigeria are more from people abroad sending money home to Thier family to build up for them than the home based locals. If life is that difficult in the west like you paint it, where do those people get the money been sent to Nigeria on daily basis from.?

This is 2019 my brother, stop all this stupidity you display everywhere on the Internet, its not funny anymore.

You might be having fun with this nonsense BS, but everyone is beginning to see you as a mad man, me inclusive.

Just grow up and shut the Bleep up.

I was even thinking the average hour per week is 44hrs which means 8.8 hours daily excluding weekends not knowing it's even 40hrs. So what he's saying is that people working the average hours (40hrs weekly) are homeless since people working for 70hrs weekly can only afford a one bedroom apart.

This guy is a joke. I won't be surprised if he's typing all this nonsense from his face me I kill your apartment in a rural area.

With all this analysis you made, he'll still find something stupid to say, i swear

You people have started comparing first world country with third world.
Is not comparable!

Some are saying Nigeria is hell, that's a very stupid thing to say in a public forum.
Yes Nigeria has alot of issues I agreed
I always advice people to migrate if they can.

Nigeria should be one of the best country in the world with all the natural resources endowed but our past and present leaders has messed everything up.

Nigerians need to start taking the blames.
The problem Nigerians are facing at the embassy now is not all about the economy situation in the country, Nigerians in diaspora are not left out, they also have messed things up for the genuine travellers too.

Nigeria itself will be ashamed of its citizens

Of course not all that glitter is gold but leaving this hell legally is a dream come through looking at how the country is going from bad to worse.

Majority of the people that leave is not because of going to acquire riches but it's because of good standard of living. A place where things work. However, the op is doing pretty well.

He has even started learning the language all of these just to integrate well into the system. I never see the op not doing fine after his schooling. He will surely be invaluable once he is done.

Yes I actually never said it was wrong or right to leave Nigeria. I only said for now it looks all glittery (we were all there) but that glitter always fades and one sees the realities of living abroad. Those realities come and they help one open his/her eyes.
The boy the OP of this post is still young so he has time on his hands and for that am glad.
There are also many Nigerians that are seeing shit right now, living in poverty in Europe and America, legal or illegal.
As always the best route to use is schooling and for that I commend the OP but pls let noone come and tell us here it's best to leave the country. On that one I don't completely agree.
We don't have to all agree but let's be matured enough to forgo insults.

Not everybody can live Nigeria nor will everybody. Best thing is to focus on your life in Nigeria, if the opportunity to move abroad comes along and it logically seems beneficial (not all this nonsense rants by youths that have little to offer in the 1st place), then go for it. Bad idea IMO to make your sole goal in life to move outside Nigeria, setting yourself up for disappointment.

Good to hear you expose yourself that you live in a shanty town paying $400 as rent. When I was in Texas I paid $1100 for a one bedroom apartment. I am really happy to know you share a room with four other guys. Young man you are a learner, most immigrants work over 60hrs. Go New York and Chicago go see people average 12hrs a day. Na back of America you dey stay. You want to school me on somewhere I stayed for over five years. What happened to federal withholding, state tax, social security, medicare, auto insurance, car notes, health insurance premiums, etc? Na all the listed them commot $500 as tax? Very laughable. How many Americans make $3840 monthly? Guy abeg make we behave and respect ourselves. You saved $2,000 monthly? You are a clown! Most people struggle to save $5,000 annually. I know say u dey wait for tax season so u can get a refund of $2500. Thats the only time immigrants manage to smile in that hellhole called America

Is this moniker the same timesup we know. That guy that always rant on any topic attacking America and Nigerians in America . Your new moniker now timesupreloaded. Hmmm... Now I understand your frustration about America in the bolded. You spent five years in America? Hmmm... Really interesting. So what brought you back to Nigeria after five years?

I hope everyone is not thinking what I’m thinking. How and why he’s back in Nigeria after five year and he has been spending his time ever since, attacking America on nairaland.

The guy whose second account is drnoel have never crossed the borders of Nigeria let alone going to America because no reasonable man who has been to a civilized country will sound that bad or probably he went as illegal immigrant and were deported after many years and the best way to portray his frustration is by creating many accounts on Nairaland and attacking America up and down, or it could be that he was repeatedly denied visa and hence his frustration

Funny.

1. Social security tax is just 6.2% and medicare tax is just 1.4%,. If you have any figure higher than that, post it here with proof. The sum of these two isn't even up to the 10% of earnings Christians worldwide pay to Thier Church in the name of tithe. I won't regard federal withheld tax as big deal since the payers enjoy some extent of it inform of tax refunds. Does your government even make use of the taxes effectively let alone refunding?

2. Check the picture attached below, that's the average rate of a one bedroom here in magnolia arkansas where I am living and studying, not a shanty or shared room like you claimed. However, you cannot expect the rates and standard of living in arkansas to be same as that of texas or Chicago. Same way you can't expect living rate of oshogbo in osun to be same as that of ajah in Lagos island. As the standard of living is higher, the wages are also higher. Do I need to remind you that 98% of all American apartment comes with AC, heater, washing machine?, some even come with living room furnitures, Internet and electronics?.

3. I pay health insurance here of 800usd per semester. Do I need to remind you that there are four months in a semester which sum up to 200usd per month. You also talked of car insurance. I drive a car and my insurance is less than 100usd monthly. Anything else?.

4. Do I need to remind you that children and families of US tax payers are entitled to financial aids in school?, there are many of my US citizen coursemates who financial aid pays more than 80% of Thier tuition.

5. I laughed when you said US resident don't save $5000 in a year. Even me as a student with limited work time per week, I know what I saved and how much I sent home regularly to my folks in Nigeria

Next time when you want to give your myopic reasoning, always quote it that people who migrated illegally with no work authorization who end up working and getting paid under the counter are the ones suffering. Even as at that, the smart and hardworking ones among them who are able to keep more than one job are raking money and sending it home regularly to Thier folks in Nigeria

Go to instablog9ja and read the daily news of Nigeria police and security forces harrasing people, read the number of people committing suicide daily from nairaland news, check the financial sector news and see number of businesses folding up daily and number of people loosing Thier jobs daily.

You were saying average Nigerians are earning 150k monthly?, remind me again how much is the new proposed minimum wage in 9ja?, remind me how many states have started paying the 30k minimum?, the few ones that have started, remind me how long it took them to fight and manipulate the public before they started paying?. See, if average Nigerians earn half of your 150k per month illusion, everyone will not want to emigrate the country. Or is it not the same lagos where university graduate earns 20k teaching in private schools?.

If the country is as good as you paint it, Buhari and all politicians won't be sending all Thier kids outside the country to study.

We are the undisputed world poverty capital, deal with that.

PS to everyone, Migration isn't for everybody. If you don't have the opportunity, just work hard and pray for blessings where you are.
But if you have the chance to move out legally to a saner climate, please don't hesitate.

This is an Educative thread let's reduce insults and learn believe it or not both sides have advantages and disadvantages

But in my 1 cent advice comparing how much u earn in dollars to how much earned in naira may not be a good idea its better u compare both currency strengths in the two countries

A man that earns example $10000 cannot be said to earn 3.6million cos he spends d money in dollars and not Naira therefore both values are not same
