You people didn't lemme finish my story. I would have gone on to tell how people stay here for even up to a year without a job, surviving on stipends from home. How some borrowed money to move over, ended up with 80k naira jobs and creditors back home are threatening their parents. And I would have gone on to mention what a decent salary here should be. And how much you must earn before your spouse can come live here with you.

But then I've said many people come here with little or no information of what's truly at stake. Relying only on info got from the agents who are more concerned with their commission and end up making bogus claims and job promises.

This still doesn't change the fact that there are people making it here big time especially in certain sectors. Dubai labor market belongs to professionals and I did mention that here is not like Europe/America where people are able to do even up to 3 odd jobs a day.

And no I'm not working for 500k a month. I work for the government ministry of education. People whose annual salary is my monthly in Nigeria are able to lead very stable lives.

The middle east in recent years has been the perfect destination for qualified teachers world over with the UAE topping the list. That your friends are in Dubai living in squalor because of hurried poor decisions and a lack of opportunity doesn't change that fact. And yes the sweetest catch of Dubai earnings is that its tax free.

The health sector is also very juicy. Nigerian doctors here earn 20,000 dirhams with 2 years of getting their liscences. This is aside the 2/1 bedroom flat accommodation if you're married/single, school fees allowance for two kids, to and fro flight on a yearly vacation to home country etc

There are engineers here in ADNOC, a big employer, earning 35k aed on a monthly. Yet in this same Dubai you see my nigerian engineer graduate brothers working as baristas for 1500aed. The difference between these two is just one or two certifications that the latter did not know to get

This dichotomy is what i was hoping i could bridge by sharing my experience but some oversabi people would not lemme be.

You may not be addressing me directly as I also quoted you, to dispute some claims.
I do agree that we may have come off as oversabi, and many of us have tendencies to do so.

Personally, my main concern was when you made claims that because many Americans and Brits were in your class, hence UAE is a better destination.
UAE is not even amongst top 10 countries advisable for Nigerian immigrants, and this statement is not based on personal opinions or emotions.

We have to be cautions when giving information, because some people are gullible and swallow every information without fact checking.

This is a public forum, so you'll be subject to opinions and fact checking.

Believe it or not, many people are also very knowledge about facts on ground in various countries, you can't just say UAE is paradise and you expect people to agree with you or not dispute the false claims.

You are only bringing up the negative aspects of UAE after people called you out, lol
That's what fact checking does.

No ill will or aggression, and I wish you the best, all we do here is for education, entertainment, assistance and information

I'm impressed with the eagle eye monitoring of this thread by vigilant Nairalanders to prevent gullible people from making avoidable mistakes. I still don't understand the reason for sugar coating things knowing that you're leading people to destruction.

Don't sell land or properties to hustle in Dubai, you will be going from frying pan to fire. You better use your money to invest or business. If you must travel, think US, UK,
Europe, Canada, Australia. Only consider Arab country if your situation is close to hell. Good luck

I was with you throughout the thread until you made this point.
We all understand that what works for Mr A may not work for Mr B, heck we have billionaires in this same Nigeria people are dying of hunger, so using that logic is not always ideal.
UAE and most Arab countries are generally not advisable as they have certain human rights violation issue, massive racism, archaic and Islamic laws

Your class being made up of 98% Americans/British DOES NOT negate that fact that America (USA) is a better country for a Nigerian immigrant than UAE

India is a shithole country and any reasonable person will not be planning on going to India for greener pastures, who the hell does that
In life there are always exceptions, and your friends who have hit it big in India are amongst those few exception.

When we talk about immigration, talk about empirical evidence, longitudinal and documentated facts of people LEGALLY making it or settling down well in Countries, and USA, UK, Canada and few EU countries are on top of the list of such countries. UAE is NOT on that list.

You can't even hear about any company even talking about seizing, holding your passport in the countries I mentioned, I believe you don't understand the level of insanity for a company to even suggest such nonsense.

Companies in the countries I mentioned also SPONSOR their employees work permit/visa too and are at the same risk of employees resigning or running away, UAE compainies that suggest this act of holding your passport are simply silly.

Finally, I never said countries like USA, Canada and so on are beds of roses, but whatever suffering or agony an immigrant passes through, there are very stringent laws against human right abuse, racism, and generally this countries have 21st century modernised laws.

I have lived in Abu Dhabi for 4 months, and visited Dubai a few times it's certainly a beautiful place, but certainly not an ideal destination for a Nigerian economic immigrant, I would say it's 2nd option to consider if USA, Canada etc are not feasible

Yea right. There is less to zero racism in America which is why you guys have the black lives matter movement. Lets not even begin to talk about the security problems.

Each one of us has reason and target for immigrating, short term or long term. Some do to earn a living, others for citizenship. But one thing is common, its all about the good life, quality life.

From the start of the article i mentioned homelessness and overstay which are direct outcomes of no job, so what negative anything was i hiding at first?

The 'freedom' you don't get to enjoy in the UAE is no different from what you get serving/living in a place like sokoto, zamfara. Its a Muslim country, so naturally you can't expect to live like you're in America.

I've lived here two years. In my first year I saved 15m naira. How long would it take an RN in the US/UK to save same? By the second year, I begun my masters program and ran some courses, so less savings.

For the first time in my life my supposedly useless Nigerian certificate is worth something.

I come online to share the story and somehow I'm claiming UAE is a paradise?

Y'all need to take a chill pill. Seriously

Saving millions under 2 years don't mean UAE is still better in quality of life than USA.
As you said it depends on what you are looking for.

People have been traveling before you and saving millions of naira.. relax

she started this saying her experience, she is not advertising for any traveling agency, nor is she telling anyone to pay her to help him or her,she is simply sharing things from her own point of view, the hat I don't understand is y people are attacking her calling her fraud, pathetic bunch of people, even in USA,Europe, some people had terrible experience that they won't encourage their love ones to come, Dubai is bad nyen nyen, still there are people succeeding there, destiny differs, she is here to encourage people,u got frustrated and u think others will be frustrated, funny! she save millions of naira,y will someone try to discredit her by saying that she is not the only one that have traveled,u sound angry,y beefing her, creat ur own thread and spew whatever u ve to say,Damm, our over Sabi is too much, enviness has gone deep into lots of people,u all should better calm down, she is even patient, let her share her experience in peace, take ur frustrations some where else.

Seriously, I do not see the reason for arguing with her on which country has the best quality of living. she clearly stated the positive and negative part of the country, giving different references. She isn't advertising for any agency nor asking us to pay. So, please let's her share her experience from her point of view.

You need to independently verify that you have a job waiting for you. Contact a nairalander in Dubai to verify it for you.
Usually, Agents say anything to entice their clients. These agents have never been outside Nigeria before and know nothing about the countries they process visas for.
All the best.

but for professionals!!!!. I work in a construction firm as an health and safety professional and I'm doing well. Those of us in the safety career have better chances than our competitors from other countries like India, Pakistan, etc cos we have the necessary certification and qualifications as per meeting the requirement to work as safety professionals in uae. Hse professional earn a minimum of 15000dirham (1.5m naira) per month if you have nebosh diploma. Inasmuch as your qualifications determine your paid as far as hse career is concern in uae, it also depends on your employers. some employers paid their safety professionals 22000 Dirham (2.2m naira) per month while other might paid as low as 5000 Dirham (500k) per month.
Wow! I live in Abuja and earn just about half of the highlighted amount. My fiancee will be done with her NYSC by February, 2020 and she has Bsc. Occupational Health and Safety from Middlesex Uni London. She also has various certifications including NEBOSH, IYOSH etc. We are already worried cos she may not get to practice her profession nor get a job that might compensate for that in remuneration here in Abuja when she eventually joins me after our marriage next year.
Reading the above, I'm in deep thought, I swear! And she is very intelligent and smart. Don't want her laying about, and she'll hate it too because she loves to be activesad
