The question on our lips is, what does the Nigerian government really want from transport ride-sharing firms? At first, it was ORide, Max and Gokada and the NURTW group, this time, it has shifted to the cars sector.

According to an eye witness that was at the Muritala Muhammed Airport, MMIA, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has banned Taxify and Uber from the airport, the ban takes effect as from today. According to him,

I saw this at the airport this afternoon on my way out of Lagos and it reads:

Federal Airport Authority Of Nigeria has issued a directive via this billboard to state that Uber, Taxify and other ride-sharing companies are not allowed to pick up passengers from the airport from today.

The idea behind the new directive by FAAN is to protect the local taxi jobs and drivers who are suffering from low patronage ever since the arrival of Uber and Taxify to the scene.

The fine for defaulting ranges from 10,000 naira.

Please be aware.

With this ban, the local taxis are back to milking passengers dry with their outrageous charges especially when they see that you are new in the country.

Stupid.
The local taXi drivers should adjust, adapt and improvise. This is the 21st century for God's sake. You can't remain behind when the world is moving in the speed of light in technological advancement.
The local taxi drivers should upgrade or move to a more local area.
This is an airport for God's sake.
That's why we should always learn everyday, keep up with new technologies.
Because not learning and upgrading is the smoking of the 21st century. And this right here, is the warning label.

Nigeria leaders hate innovation because they usually feel threatened by it.

Progress will be very difficult in Nigeria.

There are more Nigerians employed through Uber or Taxify than the local taxi system. Their excuse is not valid for stopping Uber at the airport.

They simply want to continue milking travellers because they are levying these local taxis huge sum of money daily.

I want to seriously believe this is not true and if it's true I want to believe they have a better provision or plans to ensure safety or fairness in prices else
Nigeria really need to sit down and ask herself what she really want. I love the fact that they are trying to protect the local businesses but some of these local taxi are legal robbers, I could remember few years ago before the introduction of Uber and Bolt, imagine them charging 5,000 from airport to Alausa in Ikeja, no traffic nothing but the excuse is your are coming from abroad so must pay that much, something that is less than 1,000 with Uber or Taxify.
Now what measures have they put in place to ensure the safety of people entering an unknown vehicle that you can not track who is who.
What happens if a random kidnapper goes there or one of the registered drivers decided to carry you away. How will they know the person at least with UBer you can share your location you can share the drivers info but with how can you do that with Baba Bobo. how can you ensure that there is fairness in charges and safety of passengers.

I have come to realize we love to make rules so fast without thinking of the consequences. Then if something goes wrong we are so quick to set up committees something that could have been averted.
We shouldn't always try to make things difficult for ourselves Biko. The country is already stressful we should make laws to make life easier not harder.

In Nigeria, we move a step forward and 20 steps backward.

Thats the result of the decision we made in 2015.
