We from the south, we have a wrong perception of Northern tertiary institution... It is very difficult for a southerner to be offered admission in a northern University especially for professional courses except by merit. By merit I mean being the highest from his state.
Due to catchment area policy of admission in Nigeria, no southern state is in the northern state catchment area and vice versa. So a person with 262 from Jigawa may be admitted to ABU yet a person with 305 from OYO may be denied admission.
Northern Universities are not easy to get as a southerner except you are a very high flyer.
As per 2nd choice school, hardly a federal University accept 2nd choice, Uniport, EBSU, ESUT and some other state schools allow second choice to sit for their post UTME but must change to first choice to be offered admission. EBSU don't do post UTME, and state schools are expensive.
My advise, focus on your first choice. State universities are less competitive and easier to get compared to federal universities but are more expensive.
If you have the finance go for state University like EBSU, no post UTME, and with a little above 250 you can get MBBS or choose a federal institution in your catchment area with a little above 290 average of both UTME and Post UTME you are in. If you chose to go outside your catchment area... To be on a safer side, gun for an average of 320.

Are you really sure that EBSU don't write post UTME and they do accept those who choose them as second choice??

Hello, James150
Is medicine your passion??.... If yes, then I'd advice you go to Russia, if not, just go to the UK and focus on your nursing. Nursing abroad is very lucrative.

Yes.
I didn't really consider State Universities, though I chose one whose admission criteria don't meet my O'level for MBBS.
I went for DELSU who don't accept JUPEB from another school, except theirs.
I'll still get it anyhow; the faith is that high.

Yes to first question.

Big fat No to the 2nd question.

The Era of State unis offering admission to 2nd choice aspirants into medicine and other competitive courses is over.

They will eat your money and if they decide to favour you a little which is rare, they'll offer you one course you wouldn't know existed until you see your admission status.

It's all or nothing now.
One choice.

EBSU doesn't accept 2nd choice. Besides, there is no postutme screening in EBSU. Just get up to 270 or 280 if you're a non-indigene.

N124,400 for indigenes; N184,400 for non-indigenes. That's for medicine, law, anatomy, physiology and faculty of health science students. Other faculties pay less than that.

Well, i am presently a student of JUPEB at Uniben, someone told my Dad the programme was a scam, that the best option was to prepare well for JAMB, well now i have proof that the 15 points is attainable.
