Nigeria is unique I must say, I had a short stay in Kano and Plateau state and I must say those ppl there are amazing and during my service year in Akwaibom state most friends I had then are mostly Yorubas infact i shared a flat with 4 Yorubas and ofcus we shared everything in common and I can attest to there loving and kindness. Now that I reside in Lagos the ppl I meet in my everyday activities are welcoming and loving. wat were having in this country is bad governance not the people because wat someone in South is suffering is also wat a man in North and West suffers from. The first thing that caught my attention about your article is not your forthright description of the Igboland you met, it is actually your command of English, organisation of thought and neat presentation. I am surprised Nigeria of these days has produced a graduate with this this level of quality.

Many years ago before I enrolled at the University of Ilorin, I was working at Pfizer Products PLC Alausa when I met a new employee, Idris Adeniyi. He said he just came back from Imo State (my State) where he spent one year doing national youth service. Idris told a glowing story of Igboland and said he wondered whether where he was was still the same place that was thoroughly maligned back home. He was happy he was there himself and could no longer be fooled.

Since then I have met various people and also read the accounts of people from North, West etc who lived in Igboland and I am very happy what they say about my people. Of course there are still many blind bats with enclave mentality who continue to spread the fables their fathers concocted about Igbo people. Who cares. A Kwaran I met at Unilorin later served in Aba and he is still there till today working for a rice importer.

Our land is our land. We love it. We love the people. the language, the food, the brotherhood, the culture. This year I've been home four times and is set to go again for Xmas because it rocks there and everyone is welcome. And yes, our community development drive is unrepentant. That was how our fathers pooled money to build the Imo Airport.

So thank you for your honesty and may your coast of opportunities be larger than the Nigerian space.

Well, you questions are a little hilarious especially coming from a Nigerian who has lived and witnessed inter-ethnic tensions and clashes in Nigeria.
I've met yorubas who intentionally refused to speak English to me and blatantly turn me down just because I come from a different tribe. The funny thing is they say it in English: "Ah, I don't speak English o". For people I was only meeting for the first time, the hate was deep.
And no the Igbos are not the only ones that the yorubas clash with. There are several clashes between the yorubas and the hausas that has led to hundreds of deaths. Idi-araba ethnic crisis of 1999 is a good example. That aside, the manner that you just flat out reject their complaints without being there yourself shows some level of disdain towards the Igbos.
Personally, I never bring up my tribe except I absolutely have to. Because I know there are good and bad people amongst every group.
