You are just turning around in confusing endless circles .I said the English language is spoken internationally and used by most ppl to engage in business and u also said it but trying to digress from the issue again.Most major media networks in the world even though they speak their own languages also have a section for speaking english.Al Jazeera the arab major media network has a section for English so do many major big time media network in Germany,Belgium, India, etc.If you have to converse on an international scale you use the English language.If Mandarin is so very popular why cant you speak it?Why isnt Al jazeera the using it to converse with the world.If i have to talk to a turkish man or a Russian man and if i cant understand his language i use the english language as the first port of call and not Mandarin.Mandarin is a popular language in Asia but i dont recall it being popular in africa,europe and america and the those westerners who speak it fluently are those ones who travel to asia regularly.

Its only in nigeria that parents prevent their children from speaking their own native languages and encourage them in speaking the English language.We regard our own local languages as bush languages while we regard the english language as the supreme language.Like the OP she dislikes her boyfriend just because he cant speak fluent english.Arabs,indians and asians are proud to speak their own local languages but then that is not to say they cant speak the english language.Its funny that its only in nigeria that we discourage ppl from speaking their local languages.Inferiority complex is really eating up most of us nigerians.

The bolded is not true due to the fact that China has the biggest population. English is an international language but it's not the most common. I don't even think it's second in the world. If it is, it isn't by much. Just because we don't run into Mandarin speakers where we are doesn't mean it's not the most common language. More people are learning Chinese languages considering they could be the next superpower.

In the first place, you can quite agree with me than Englis Language is not and can never be one of the minor not to mention of major criteria for dating. In fact I got confused when people make it one of their priority. The parents that brought them forth may have no knowledge of the Language.
Most of the electronics we Nigerians use are from Asia with "ching chong ching" language on it. May be you should tell them to date thier men/women with English. I don't want to talk about Russians, Indians, France etc.
Even in Naija, our English is "agwagburu agwagbu" (konkon mixture), cut and nail.
Yes on body is perfect as long as English Language is concern.

If China becomes the next superpower their language would displace the english language in the world scene and besides there was a caption i saw on CNN about the american govt making it compulsory now for american high school students to learn about chinese history.Every american is now learning how to use a chop stick but until china becomes a world power then most ppl would use the english language as their mode of communication.

I know how u feel, especially if u speak very good english and all ur freinds speak well too. I bet u n ur freinds must have laughed at people that speak bad english in the past, well, now the joke is on u. I understand.

since i started schooling i laughed at people that did not speak well (i know its wrong, but we were young and unwise), but it is now a part of me, and i definitely wont date a girl that speaks badly.

I remember when i was with a girl whose english was not so good. I was driving, she was in the pass. seat and my freind (i grew up with him n we used to laugh at bad speakers) was in the back seat. He had not met the girl before that day, so they were not talking. The car was quiet as i drove, suddenly the girl's cell phone rang, as soon as she picked the call, my heart started beating fast, i couldnt concentrate on the road and almost hit another car, i was so scared that she would make a grammatical blunder on the phone. Luckily it was a brief conversation and it went fine. But i knew that there was a problem.

My advise is if u can stand it, go ahead. As for me, its not just because of freinds or anything. PERSONALLY I GET IRRITATED when a persons grammar is all over the place.

So if u can stand it, stay, but if u cant, then STEP. U deserve a guy that u can be proud of and happy with.

I agree with what he said. I wouldn't say don't do it, but personally I can't take it. I will feel so miserable till it starts to haunt me. All my life, I grew up speaking good English and up till now, I find it hard to get with people who don't speak well.

English is not the native language of most of people here if not all so I don't understand the obsession with this language here unless is coming from an inferiority complex even in Africa English is not the most spoken language

Actually many surveys will tell you that mandarin is the world most spoken language when you add up its native speakers to its secondary speakers as surprising as it may sound and this are numbers that have been documented for over ten 10years over and over again . so if experts keep getting the same ratios then there must be something to it.

the english language is such a fickle thing to base a relationship on. date this man for what you see in him and how you feel about him or even just for what characteristics you have seen in him thus far. billions of people in the world today don't speak english and they get on just fine.

You not getting what i am trying to say.I am not measuring it by the population of a country.Yes China has the largest population in the world and its inhabitants speak mandarin that i would agree on but then mandarin has penetrated the rest part of the globe like the english language?If you go to France you would come across ppl who can speak english,if you go to Tahiti you would see ppl that speak english,if you go to Serbia you would see ppl that speak english,if you go to Croatia you would see ppl that speak English,if you visit Qatar you would see ppl that speak english,if you go to Oman you would see ppl that speak english,when you visit Bahrain you would see ppl that speak english,visit the Fiji Islands as well u would come across ppl who speak english,if you visit Montenegro you would see ppl that speak english,in both Russia and Iceland you would come across some of its inhabitants who speak english even there are some Eskimos ppl who speak english fluently as well.In these countries i just mentioned is Mandarin known in them?
