yes car, a pointer to booming economy and only the well fed own cars. Meanwhile,
Paul Anber's essay "Modernization and Political Disintegration: Nigeria and the Ibos" published in the journal of Modern African Studies vol. 5, No 2 (Sep, 1967) 163-179. See pp 171-172 for excerpt:
" '' A system of Universal primary education was introduced in Eastern Nigeria in 1953, though the mission schools had already prospered in the Region long before then. Despite the fact that there was a requirement for limited contributory fees, education continued to be very much in demand. Even at the time when universal primary education was first introduced, the percentage of the population over seven years of age who were literate was higher in the East than in any other Region: East, 10.6 per cent; West 9.5 percent; North, 0.9 percent. Since 1959, the East has had more teachers and pupils than any other area of the country, with the heaviest emphasis on primary education.
Figures for elementary and secondary education indicate that the approximate ratio of teachers to population in 1963 was 1 to every 1,500 in the East, 1 to every 2,500 in th West, and 1 for every 10,000 in the north. Other statistical data reveal how rapidly the standard of living rose among Ibos. The East had the most extensive hospital facilities in the country by 1965, the largest regional production of electricity in the country by 1954, and the greatest number of vehicle registrations by 1963. The economic orientation of the Ibos was also reflected through membership of credit associations:in 1963 the East had 68,220 individual members, the west 5,776, and the north a mere 2,407." ''... If Azikwe had been the premier then, say bye bye to free education, free primary health, skyscraper, first TV, first Stadium, Odua investment, minimum wage Increase, etc.

He won’t fail to do that only because he is Igbo but he will fail because he can’t offer the brain he dosen’t have.

It takes a brainy man like Awolowo to pioneer all those firsts among first. Infact I read a report on what obstacle Awolowo faced when he was trying to implement the free education policy.

The way he handled the situation even against the world powers advice that time and the backlash he got from the Agbekoyas made me salute him more.

Yup the useless Azikwe would have divided Yorubas along religious line
With 0 achievements

Divert all Yoruba resources to Enugu

Don't flatter yourself you didn't change anyone's opinion anyone who read your comments would have no doubt of the kind of person you are

You kept ignoring the fact that Ojukwu was incharge of the Eastern region and you ignored the fact that Tafewa Balewa and Akintola imprisoned Awolowo to begin with

In short you behaved like a typical politician saying what people think already, but never saying the truth

Bro I challenged all the Igbos on that thread to bring just one evidence either pictures/Videos/Newspaper archive to back up their claim that Ojukwu released Awolowo.

None of them was able to bring any one. Not even one.

What does that tells you? It tells you most of you are following the bandwagon of propaganda that was orchestrated by Sir Ojukwu and his cronies to pollute the mind of the Igbo man about Awolowo and also to justify the hateful profiling.

Now please, can you bring any evidence from a reputable source either image/video/ newspaper archive that can serve as an evidence of Ojukwu releasing Awolowo?

If you can’t bring any, then let’s end this discussion on this subject matter.

Note: I won’t accept the verbals of Ojukwu himself coz Gowon also said he released Awolowo but I chose to use an independent source as my evidence.

Even when Ojukwu was alive, he could not open his mouth to lie that he was the one that released Awolowo but his people would not just stop peddling lies, was it not last week or so that Gowon had to scold Chimamanda against her concocted lies and assumption of the civil war. This people are just terrible and full of lies in order to play victims of their own mistakes.

You don’t know what is called a ripple effect. Before Chief Awolowo pioneered that feee-education most Yorubas were not having much proper western education and parents don’t actually see the need for sending their Children to school coz farming is more profitable.

His free primary education policy increased the numbers of literate Yorubas and even the girl child was enrolled in school which increased the standard of living to some extent. The effect is that the Yorubas had an advantage than other tribes coz if you list out the first professors in discipline across Nigeria, the Yorubas will feature in at least 70% of the numbers.

That effect means my grandpa that is literate can send my dad to school which in turn means I will be literate and the effect will go on. That explains why the Yorubas are commonly known as the education base of Nigeria and you will hardly see a family in the SW without a graduate.

Hence, Awo policy in those era can still be felt by the generations of today. If Ahmadu Bello had done something like that in the north, the northerners won’t have been an educational disadvantaged region today!

I am not particularly interested in Awolowo,
Azikiwe, Akintola, Amadu Bello, Balewa, Ojukwu,
Nzeogwu et all. They are ruined the nation Nigeria. Why did they fought for independence when they were not ready? If the white man had stayed longer we would be better than South Africa today. Imagine fighting for independence only to start fighting yourselves immediately! They are no heroes, Bleep them all! If Gowon like he can go back and release whoever, I dont care!
