I still don't know the air arsenal they have/might have that needs "proper fighter jets" to match it
I've only seen L-39 fighter/trainer jets. No proper fighter jets.

So why the alarmist post that time? I am of the opinion that the JF-17 cannot solve all the possible air gap but its more than capable for the operational gaps we have.
Sukhois for who/what? In this impoverished neighborhood? What NAF should be getting with and after this JF-17 is quality EW systems. Our EW is currently poor

Ok, but what else would you expect from a $25million fighter jet with Chinese avionics on board - this jet is designed to be affordable, not to be best in class. The JF17is mediocre at best but good enough for our needs at the moment. Of course a MIG35 or Gripen NG would be investment in future needs but we dont have the budget for that now.

We really need to build strong military partnerships, our primary security concern is internal, however let us not forget that we're completely surrounded by France.

Read up on the issues faced with France in regards to the recently launched ECOWAS ECO currency.

Huge importations from Russia or China is a security guarantee. A good example is Syria, in Africa we have Algeria and CAR.

The JF-17 provides air power solutions but do not cover our security gaps. The F-7s can do what the JF-17s are intended for.

The JF-17 is a good buy, but provides no security deterrent or guarantees.

The JF-17 does not have the range an SU or MIG would give us.

Compiled from numerous online defense sources. I look at the exposed exhaust of SU 57 and the amateurish attempt at trying to achieve both stealth and dogfighting maneuverability simultaneously and I just know it is too much vodka flowing in those design bureaus

You would need a map of west africa, types and inventory of aircraft and aircraft nos, types and conbat range(s).
The nearest airfield is southern Niger Republic Diffa. The toughest they can field are 2 old MIG 29s.
Algeria is too far to come close.
Mali too far. Cameroon can field Alpha jets.
It is a ridiculously "quiet" neighborhood that Nigeria is in.
Even France would need to refuel their Mirage 2000s mid-air to reach Nigeria.
Good luck with that- our strike airfields are smack in the middle of the country.

I have been advocating for a large 4++ Gen combat aircraft as well but only for protection of the Gulf of Guinea off shore oil installations.

Nigerias power projection in W.Africa is seaward. We will close sea lanes, muscle into your ports and land troops. We are buying LSTs and coast hugging attack crafts.

Buying SUs and MIGs are such a waste, we should keep any of them acquired to just six aircraft.

France have airbases in Niamey and N'djamena with rafales, mirage , reapers , and even K135 tanker . check distance from the map . without refueling they can strike any thing they want in nigeria and maybe undetected when you see the radars and air defense of nigeria

. with penetration configuration(3t bombs , 4MIKA) , the rafale have 1056 km combat radius ,for air air config its 1759 km .

so from niamey and N'djamenna they can strike any thing in nigeria withiut sending there aircraft carrier or NATO armada .

.

Nigeria may not have adequate air defense systems but in terms of Radar coverage we have what we call.TRACON(Total radar coverage over Nigeria) So France will be detected once into Nigeria airspace. We can respond from Tactical air command Markudi using the F7 Which is faster than the mirage..

France is the security guarantor of all our Francofone neighbours. It doesn't matter if they have one, two or zero jets. When the chips are down, France will intervene.

France has bases in Niger Republic and Chad , these bases are just across the border.

During operations in Mali, France flew fighter jets directly from France, hit targets in Mali and flew back to France that same day. There are no targets they cannot hit in Nigeria.

The JF-17 does not provide us the security we need to pose a deterrent. We cannot defeat France in combat, what we need is a military that would cause so much damage to the attacking force that the cost of victory for the attacking force outweighs whatever victory they can gain.

That's exactly how the Algerian military is set-up.

Purchasing SU-30's would not be a waste, what it does is the jets acts as a deterrent and a security/political cover from Russia.

Anyway, even the JF-17 we have not seen.

This is not final prototype version for JF17 Block 3. AESA radar is coming, IRST is coming, capability for 100km+ PL 15 missile is coming. I like that there is no pretension to stealth capability but there will be some radar absorbing paint and radar jamming gear. The only stealth technology working is American. Any other claim is a scam.

As for Block 2 we should by 1 squadron and inflight refuelling aircraft.
In order to compensate for JF17 Block 2 inadequacies, we should buy cheap AEW/mini AWACS system and practice frequently to develop capability for air operations aerial control, radar jamming and beam riding long range missile launching.

I support just 3 pieces of MIG 35 kept at 100% operational availability by 2023 expanded to half a squadron by 2025.

And yes, lots of helicopters. 50 pieces at least of the latest MI 35M.
so funny stealth is just an over rated features of an object.
Don't let Hollywood fool you, there are many aspects to stealth technology and its applications how I chose to apply me is left to me.

Read my post mindfully. I am not saying they should not buy because a prototype crashed. I am saying they should not buy because the aircraft is still under development as gar as I am concerned.
Algeria should be asking itself how many SU57s have been deployed by Russia itself?. Also what particular threat gap are they trying to close with this acquisition. If it is unstable Libya, then a new air superiority fighter is of no use. If it is the high capabilities acquired by Morocco and Tunisia, then more upgraded versions of SUs and MIGs are the answer.

The F35s is a fully developed aircraft program already in service with more than ten air forces and the two crashes experienced on the aircraft are so well researched as to be almost expected.
Almost every airforce using F35s now knows the locations on the airframe and frequency of inspection to predict the cracks that cause the failures leading to the crashes . That's the difference a well matured development of an aircraft brings
Su-57 is unproven, has the F-22 or F-35 proven themselves? Very piece of military hardware is built based on a particular doctrine. From the J-39NG to the J20 Su-57 F-22 to F-35 are all unproven platforms. Each Craft is unique in its own way.

Rob Lee is probably one of the world's most informed Russian defence watcher.

This is what he has to say on Russian defence exports.

It is not possible to know the exact details of defence imports from any country.

Deals in many areas are done in secret.

problem i see is that Nigeria has no means to share(in real time) information captured from its radar system to any of its military platforms. But to be fair very few countries outside NATO, China and Russia have a Tactical data link capability

This is a stretch.
Pls be realistic.
France will send planes from Paris, refuel twice to destroy air bases at Kainji and Makurdi.

The mission reliability of this is probably 15%. So they probably do this successfully once in six missions. They better be carrying more than 20 tons of bombs/missiles.....LOL.

They get only one chance but Nigeria has options.

The most childish thing is assessing military power and strength (even these two dont mean the same thing) by comparing numbers and types of aircraft and tanks. It is amateur stuff.
There are many."elements of national power ".

My brother, are you for real?

France sent planes directly from France to attack targets in Mali, the Rafale fighter jets flew back to France after the mission. This is a fact. Henry240 posted the link back in 2017.

Research about it.

Even without that they can cover all of Nigeria from Chad and Niger republic. So, I'm just telling you how far they can cover.

I'm telling you we need a deterrent, you're talking comparing equipment. I am not comparing equipment bros. I'm telling you the JF-17 is not a deterrent.

Only a country that is secure can guarantee prosperity for it's citizens.

Stealth / low observability - not good. Lights up on IRST

Supercruise. - just fair

NetCentric warfare ability - very poor

EW suite - poor, maybe just better than J20

AESA radar - fair but reliability issues

IRST - fair

MAWS/other protective systems - poor

Russia is only scamming other countries with fake 5th Gen platforms.

Their real answer to the opposition is hypersonic strike aircraft. This is where they would be throwing their money because they are leading the tech although US railgun technology will destroy everyone of those aircraft when they are fielded.

the way the F-35 software is still not ready or is it the unreliable airframe abi na supercruise were e no fit attain?
Biggest scam so far na F-35 with trillions in developmental fund still behind schedule.

I agree. That's why I say SU 57 is not a stealth aircraft. It is low observation profile aircraft with paint, radar jamming and some rudimentary stealth external profile. This aircraft would struggle to.be called 5th Gen.
The Chinese are actually closer to 5th Gen. capability with their J 20.

People should get real about Russia.
It is the worlds largest nuclear inventory holder, it probably still fields the largest number of tanks and its space technology / program is more reliable and robust than US.
However Russia is NOT a super power any more. It is a middle power in the same class as Turkey.

China and India have more bragging rights at eventually challenging US for world domination than Russia.
Thus is even.more true when.you look at emerging.technology adoption - AI, IoT, et.c

I agree with all this except this two bolded.

The F7 is basically an interceptor and is built around that role. Its not multirole -Poor in ground & maritime roles.

Based on NAF's doctrine, any jet must be able to get to our borders (in all directions for interdiction) from 2 NAF bases (I will keep the names for security reasons) and the JF fulfils it. Although the JFs are not the best out there to fulfil both doctrine and capability gap BUT I don't deal with fantasies
