appreciate001:No doubt, reading about public speaking books will help. If by stage fright, you mean those first few seconds where you are unsure of yourself, then its no biggie. If its the other one where you're fidgeting the whole time and almost biting your tongue, then this might help you. Something that has always worked for me is exercising about 2hrs or 1hr before any presentation. You could try pushups, jogging or anything that makes your heart beat faster. The same sensation you get from stage fright is what you get when you jog a KM or half. Doing this before any presentation prepares you for what is ahead. I am positive that it will work for you too |

Get this book " The Art of Public Speaking" by Stephen E. Lucas. The book comes with an audio CD, for those who can't afford to read the book. Beyond getting this book also ensure you engage yourself in a capacity where you'll have to lead people. I overcame mine by lending myself to serve as a unit chairman of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, the forerunner of today's APC in my area. My own situation was even not helped by the fact that I stutter but that didn't deter me from facing my worst fear. From being a unit chairman, I transition to becoming the secretary of a youths organization in my area. Today, i do no longer develop a cold feet while speaking in public. In conclusion, even expert in public speaking also develop cold feet when going to give speech but the moment they step to the rostrum the fear evaporates. Don't forget to take a deep breath before speaking in public. You can also use your two hands to gesturize while speaking as well. |

Before any presentation rehearse & practice either in-front of your family (spouse or children) or the mirror. Syce yourself several times by saying positive stuffs about yourself based on the word of God (Bible, Koran or something motivational) On the day of presentation, don't look into the eyes of your audience. Look above their heads. |

One thing I found very useful was taking acting lessons. We had the opportunity to take free lessons, as a relaxation from serious and heavy scientific academic work. But it had other unintended benefits. Because you perform with and in front of people. It helped with team work and having confidence in your colleagues too. Ultimately boosts own self confidence. I found that presentations in seminars got easier. |

IT HAPPENED TO ME DURING MY NYSC DAYS. I STARTED AND PAUSED, AND THE CHILDREN STARTED LAUGHING....PRAISE GOD THOROUGHLY SINGING SONGS BEFORE YOUR PRESENTATION, MAYBE SUITABLY ON THE EVE OF THE PRESENTATION DAY....AND YOU'ILL THANK ME!.....ADDITIONALLY SPEAK ONLY ON WHAT YOU KNOW BEST, DONT TRY TO BE FUNNY IF YOU ARE THE TYPE.....DON'T LOOK INTO THEIR EYES AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE...... HOLD SOME JOTTINGS IF POSSIBLE, THERE'S NO SHAME IN IT, NEWSCASTERS USE THEM AND ALSO PROGRAM ANCHORS. |

appreciate001:I normally get scared too, the first 3 seconds when I start talking makes me shake then I'll let the adrenaline leave my system. I single out the person who looks interested in me most in the crowd then I focus my attention on that person. Finnaly I've never read any books on public speaking, I just have this mentality that I'm special and that I can adress the whole world. You should believe that too |

appreciate001:Sir for me stage fright is something you can't get rid of but you can control it. I had my first presentation in my life on medical imaging modalities as of last year and I excelled despite my stage fright because I was well prepared .In fact I read virtually everything I could lay my hands on in regards to the topic. So prepare for your presentation and remember you are special as people on that day will look up to you to garner facts about your topic so don't be afraid. Also if you are a Christian you can make a short prayer and ask him for strength, boldness abeg you must prepare if not the prayer no go work I hope this helps you Sir |

appreciate001:I understand you perfectly cos I used to be like you. You have anxiety disorder it makes you lose confidence and concentration before presentation. Anyway be sure to have good subject knowledge b4 the presentation. Read the art of public speaking by Dale caenegie. It will help you know how to act and keep focus. ON THE MAIN. There is a drug for ppl with anxiety disorder I've forgotten BT will get back to you. It's mostly used by ppl with high BP. What it does is that it calms your nerves by expanding tracts for easy blood flow. Ordinarily without it you maybe sweating or your heart could be raising the drug clears this for you. I use it always before my presentations even at work |
