grin Hilarious way to drive your point across. The Okada and rider scenario you painted made me realise how wrong a lot of drivers here have been treating riders. Although some riders are from hell, we need to be more tolerant. Business is Business, there'll always be bad customers
do you know have taken a bike and he said he cant wait for me to get some ice cream in cold stone and I respect his opinion. I always wait for rider if they want to use atm. but I can never wait for you if u tell me you are going into the bank or into any fast food I will end the trip asap. go and tell an okada man to wait for u that u are going into the bank or any fast food then you will know how far.

All these clout chasing and subtle innuendos should have stopped last year Jor.

You don't tell a man how to handle a situation you were not a witness to.

Like they say, no manual in life even twins don't live same life.

You do yourself a disservice when you check price of a trip before the trip actually ends. In most cases, if you don’t change destination in the app, the price would remain the same.
this is for iphone if u check the price before get to destination you need to update the trip b4 it continues reading but on my Samsung weather I update or not it keeps reading.

Thats the conclusion of the matter. But saying a rider shouldn't think of asking for stopovers is not realistic.

Let me tell you two experiences I've had with stopovers: a good and a bad one

THE BAD

Picked this lady from Lekki. She was heading to VI(short trip). She told me she will stop at the Palms to pick up something. I asked how long.Aunty said 20 minutes

This was around 8:30am. I did night that day, so that was like my last trip before I go house.

Na so I reach there. She took the token and went. I fall chair sleep. Woke up over 45 minutes later, she never come out. Called her and she said she's coming out. She came out after 15 minutes (1 hour in total). Dropped her off. She paid and went. No extra money cry

********************************

THE GOOD

Picked a woman going to the airport from Lekki. As we climb 3MB, she said I should drop her at Magodo that she wants to say hi to a Friend.

When we got to Magodo, she suggested if I'll wait for her. That she will spend 30 minutes.

Haaa angry. I thought about it. I could end this trip and in the next 30 minutes, I will still be roaming up and down, or I could just sacrifice it and take her to the airport.

I agreed. She said I shouldn't end it, and went in

Before 10 minutes, Madam came out with her friend, hugged and asked me to proceed.

I reach airport, end trip. She paid and added extra 3k for my waiting
*******************************

My point is:

1)Use your discretion.

2)For every bad rider, there is a good one. People who come here to tell you about how riders wasted their time on stopovers may not share their stories of when they enjoyed benefits from stopovers. Bad stories get more attention

3) Be polite about rejections. Everyone knows it's your car. Whether the rider begs or command you, the name on the particulars won't change. Let there be a difference between an uber driver and a Volkswagen LT driver.

We can still survive and make profit without being uncouth

Bros your conclusion is lit, just like we have very bad drivers too who just won't give a fućk. This environment is harsh already why make life harder for ourselves. I've read on this thread where a driver was compensated with around 40k or so for a job welll done. He went home to his wife and they enjoyed the bonus, some other day another mad rider fit jaapa with your 5k.

A drivers perception towards his job would determine how he handles situations and instances. As for me i try as much as possible to be polite, although sometimes situations might warrant you get nasty.

At a certain point in our lives, we would stop this job and hop on to something different to make a living. How would you feel when you cross path with people you've treated like trash just because you're driving them from point A to B. You don't have to be an ass licker to survive, just be professional.

When uber still dey new, some people dey go down to open door for riders lol, some dey offer water, candy, gum, throw pillow etc. I never really see the point in all of that and i didn't do it. Yet my money dey enter and that is what matters most to me.

My point here is that let's behave like human beings not some vexed creature that is waiting to dish out insults at any available rider or persons that come dia way. Which job person do wey dem no go try take advantage of you for this 9ja? If barber start to complain for you ehn, you go fear.

Most important thing

* My car and my sanity is still intact at the end of the day.

Nice write up bro. Thanks for the info. Yesterday I took a rider from Ikoyi to jakande 1st gate and she asked me to wait let her quickly rush up to drop her items and that I should take her to cadogan in jakande. While she came down I checked the fare it was 2k, she spent about 10minutes and when we started moving I checked again the same 2k, we got to her destination and I ended the trip still 2k. I told her that I have to do review. I did review and put 2500 uptill now it is still on review. However, I she gave me 2,200 that whatever it is I should call her. I was really angry. Same yesterday, in the afternoon I took a guy from karimu kotun vi to eko hotel to change money, from eko hotel to the palms and waited for him 15minutes then to friends colony in jakande to pick up something and from there to his final destination inside jakande when I ended the trip I saw 2,300 I was mad!!!

Abeg!!! Anybody with saka should help my ministry. Pls, call me 07059962728.

Thanks

Most Nigerian used cars have been abused and such cars will not guarantee a smooth sail in the business so using them for HP is a big NO and a tiny yes. If you get a sound mechanic to examine it and you're rest assured car is still in good condition then go for it but don't go beyond 2m. Anything above 2m HP for a Nigerian used car is slavery.. cheating.. riding.. opressing.. you can add your own grin

Most of the posturing here are far different from what's obtainable from ehailing drivers in the real world. NL drivers represent about 0.75% of the ehailing world and thus gives a lopsided view of the whole system.

Came back from my trip today and request for a ride, told the bolt driver that we will be doing about 5 stop overs. He was okay with it, his only request was I pay cash. He even helped me load our bags into his trunk, he wanted to do it alone but it's not my thing, I like to get involved.

The guy was patient all through the stop overs, even when we overstay by like 10mins. When we got to my residence, he drove into the compound, helped us unload. The way he went about it is in stark contrast to the discussions you see of late here.

You don't have to be rude cos someone was rude to you. Once you are providing services, you will meet a lot of misplaced aggressions but the way you carry yourself matters.

Let us be a little more kind, everyone is fighting some inner battle. Your attitude towards a rude customer may be the needed catalyst for a change.

Peace to us all

Bro, my own personal decision is that NO HP for Nigerian used cars. The car was probably bought toks and even used further in Nigeria before you now take it up for HP. Before you pay up for it after 2 years, how long more would u enjoy the ride?

My school of thought might be wrong though.

@izzou, made a good painting with the the okada/rider’s scenario but there is a large difference when it comes to a Uber driver/rider because these are two different class of people.

1) 70-85% of okada riders are illiterates but the reverse is the case with Uber drivers.
2) 70-95% of okada passengers are literates, but this is different when it comes to Uber/bolt riders. And most “oloshos” girls are illiterate.

So you don’t expect an Uber driver like @calabardick for an instance who works with an oil firm let’s assume mobile and earns maybe 850k/month and he does Uber just for fun and to explore and probably has a Master’s degree and probably going to the office one morning to take many insults, littering of his car by rider and time wasting from one low class “olosho” rider who even wants to waste his time withdrawing money on a long atm queque. It’s never gonna work.

Something similar happened that made doctors went of a long strike during the last administration. Nurses and pharmacists were owning hospitals and then employing the services of even professional doctors simply because the nurses have the money or something else, meaning a king is being controlled and paid by a slave.

How would you feel if you find yourself in such a situation?

Also, you know say most of these okada riders are zombies especially the abokis, sorry for my choice of words pls but it’s .... couple with the fact that okada na just two legs him get and most of these guys just came in from May sokoto, jalingo and the rest and don’t know how to ride bikes very well. Any little tin like dis swam! Na ground u go find urself if u r very lucky u will come out with either a brush, cut or one dislocation, worst case amputated leg/hands or even dealt. So tell me why am educated man will not tell the guy to “small small”.

Though I don’t support the idea of wasting too much time or the change finding issue and not showing appreciation and al of that.

Let me share my own experience on stopovers.

I drive in Abuja...

I got a request from transcop to national assembly ( short trip) it was card trip....we got there. As I stopped I ended the trip.. rider asked me why I ended the trip...explained we have gotten to destination. He was like we would have updated it. Requested again and it came to me. We continued. After like 3 stops. I gently explained to rider that the stops overs would not pay me for the day cos I need cash urgently that day. He wanted to change face I didn't bother. ..I only explained to him that though the money would still come to me following week but would affect my target for that day...he just laughed and said I like money. ..we laughed over it.. we ended the trip and continues with offline...I was with him for like 6hrs and he paid me well for the offline... according to him ..he did that cos I gently explained to him I needed cash ( physical cash) on that day.

For me it on depends on scenerio, manner of approach from driver and how the rider responds.

In any way. We drivers should not be rude to all riders because of one bad experience.

LET ME SHARE ANOTHER BAD EXPERIENCE.

when I was a newbie in the hustle. I got a request in wuse market ( for those that drive in Abuja) ..I was stuck in traffic. Rider started yelling on the phone. I was just explaining I was in traffic. As I tried to find my way out of the traffic..I was arrested by police cos I made a wrong turn...bribed them with 3k ..he was just calling me....I finally got to wuse market...parked in front...as rider entered...naso touts follow enter....we started begging....within five minutes my rider just abandoned me and said it's my problem not his....I was shocked. ..I had to withdraw from my account to bribe touts ...

My conclusion...there are bad riders and good one...there are ones that will understand and stupid ones....

As driver ..we should not be quick to be rude to riders even if they are stupid....we can still politely dish them

You've said it all.

There are bad riders/drivers & good ones.

I'm most likely to accept stopover, I'm that nice grin, I can refuse on another day, depends on mood and some factors. But I will never be rude while rejecting your trips.

On another note, Fellas, for God's sake, let's not start throwing forgotten items away. Please.

Everyone has one bad experience or the other, dont develop your opinion and decision on bad ones.

Please, always return items to uber office or ask owner to order for trip to get it back if u can't take it back.

May our lives not be thrown into ocean

Well played brother. This hustle no be fight all the time. I meet very good riders and we really get along that quite often I find it difficult to collect money from them. Yes I do that.

Have had to wait more than 30 minutes while waiting for a rider's pizza to be ready (that was my last trip of that day) Rider was too nice that I couldn't say no. He later gave me extra 2k for the wait. There are also situations that I wouldn't wait more than a minute for a rider. Discretion should always be applied. No crime in waiting for a rider. It all depends on who, where, when and how such wait can affect your day.

On another note, any driver that throws a rider's forgotten items away deserves to be castrated. You do not help people just because of what you will get back in return. That's one of the reasons this country is f**ked. I have returned a rider's Nokia touch light phone that doesn't even have a sim card in it. I didn't have rider's number and he didn't have mine because there was no call made before the trip. Determined to get the phone back to the rider after I noticed he was using that phone because of the contacts in it, I had to look through the phone contacts, saw names like "mummy" "daddy" "baby sister", called those numbers and that was how I was able to reach the rider. Returned the phone the next day, while he was so happy and grateful, he offered me money but I refused to accept it. The joy of seeing him and the rest of the family happy was more important to me. I will never also forget how his mother prayed for me on the phone. No amount of money can equate that.

One lesson life has taught us is that you should do good because you have to and don't ever expect a reward for it. MONEY IS NOT EVERYTHING. For any good thing you do, trust me, there's always a greater reward that comes with it in another form when you least expect. It doesn't and will never stop you from reaching your goals.

Don't forget also that there will always be setbacks in this business, they are a part and parcel of it, just like every other life venture. If you know what you are doing as a good business man, in as much as you try to avoid it, it will still come. You do not fight setbacks, you accept it and move on to the next inline.

Young man! What’s your business with that? Is it your time or data I’m spending or is it your quote? Or did I in anyway offend you or anyone with my responds? Or am I the one with the most quotes here? Even if I am, is there any crime doing that?

Let me remind you, when you where idle hunting for job, how did you spend your time? Did anyone ever attacked you or try to deduce a meaningless meaning to your SM activities just like you just did?

You that just graduated few years ago and just got a job last year only heaven knows how you handled the dilemma of the offers you want to jump into somebody’s affairs without even knowing into to. How funny.

Young man, learn to understand that SM and the real world/life are two different thing and should not be interchanged or misunderstood.

In other ways, you’re entitled to your opinion.
