Handsomeemmy: Biko, it is God that protects, day or night....... I make most of my journey at night.Gud point. I make most of my journeys at night too (in d last 4 weeks I av done Sokoto-Abuja over night 3 times,...Ibadan-Abuja once). And mostly in my car,...not commercial. The good tin abt driving yorself is dt u do it at yor pace,...and yor life is in yor own hands, not in d hands of one dumb driver. Another route I do regularly at night is Sokoto-Lagos. A note of warning; drive cautiously at night,....never be too far from commercial vehicles who ply d route every week. 2ndly,...always be conscious of d flow of on-coming traffic,...if u don't see dem for 5-10 straight minutes quickly make a u-turn to d nearest town or to the nearest 'confirmed' check point. Lastly,do not overspeed at nyt,....u can never be sure wats lurking in d darkness at yor next bend. |

well.. It depends.. 1. The roads are not lit. 2. The smoothness of the road is. Yet another problem. 3. Nigerian drivers have zeor night driving ethics. They all drive with full beam on thereby making an already dangerous situation worse. 4. Increased chance of encountering robbers.. Though this has drastically reduced, its still remains a clear and ever present danger. 5. Police harassment. Yes! Checkpoints still abound on our roads and at night, you stand a higher risk of a police. Checkpoint acting funny just to extort you. |

Two questions (and answers): 1) Can anyone here point to anyone they personally know who has been killed by armed robbers on the road travelling interstate at night in the last 5 years? Less than 1% of posters can. 2) What percentage of posters here has actually travelled at night interstate in the last 5 years? Less than 1% of posters. OP, I think you should take your enquiry elsewhere. NL is not the place to ask such a question. It's filled with mostly jobless youths who barely know the way out of their neighbourhoods, never mind national interstate travel. |

Rossikk: Two questions (and answers):I and my family usually travel to the East around 3am for years now and never had a problem. But one fellow came from the States to marry from his town. Everyone knows he is into credit cards fraud in America and he is a big show off. He was robbed all the way down to his underwear, luckily not killed on the way to his Traditional Marriage in the east for Lagos. When he told the story I knew right away it was his friends that set him up Karma is a b*#ch! |

Unless you’re traveling by commercial transport then I personally wouldn’t chance it. For some stupid reason I left Ibadan at 7PM on Friday to go to Ijebu Ode. Though I travel this road almost weekly but this is the first time at night. When I arrived there around 830PM I needed a stiff drink and I promised myself never to try such again. |

I was an ss3 student,18 in the year 2010 when I started traveling at night and since then I've been traveling alone at night boarding luxurious buses from either Lagos, Ibadan,or Ilorin to Portharcourt city at least 3 to 4 times per year, now I'm a graduate, and I still travel at night same route at night, and I've not encounter any form of robbery, road attack not even accident, in fact night travel is the most safest, it's rear to see or hear about travellers getting involved in accident. |
