I'm just curious to know.
I would like to be more enlightened on this.

If my brother, I meant my own blood brother becomes an American citizen, I as a Nigerian, what do I stand to gain from it?

Will it increase my chances of traveling to America, will I have better chances to gain from institutions there, or and what other benefits do I stand to gain.

You will be able to fly on Trumps private jet like Hanan is doing

He can file I-130 for you but the wait time for Nigeria is like 10yrs right now. If you are young, that will definitely favor you but if you are old already, then there is no benefit for you! grin grin

If you are willing to wait for 10 -15 years before you migrate to the US, cause that is how long it is going to take for your brother filing for you to be approved.

This is only meant for desperados.

Why start with immigrant visa?

A visiting or student visa is OK for a start.

It makes eventual migration much more easier.

The benefits are...Zero....Nada...Jack f**king sh**t..Even Obama's biological father wouldn't benefit nothing even if he was alive...

Obama was 100% useless to kenyans, except for bragging rights, they gained nothing.

He might even get stoned if he visits his father's village again.

Your sibling can apply for you to emigrate to the USA. But the processing/wait time is about 10 years.

Nairaland has gone to the dogs. Someone will post a question and it will be hijacked by ignoramus spewing thra.sh. The whole first page comments couldn't even answer a simple question. Your brother or sibling can petition for you but it takes a long time perhaps 10-12 depending on the country of origin's priority date. I believe it is more beneficial for someone with a young sibling back in Nigeria or a sibling that is yet to find his or footing all those years in Nigeria.

Even if you were given birth to by the same parent(mother and father) , it doesn't necessarily mean you'd find yourself in the USA because your brother is there . He may not have the 'willingness' to assist you and somebody else's (not related by blood or marriage) may be more than willing to assist. The latter is whom God has designed to assist you in life rather than the person you had earlier hoped will do it and confident about

Are you a teacher? I commend you for your patience in responding to him considering his manner of approach, well done.

Factors to consider:

Age: if between 16 to 40 and unmarried..1% chance of getting that visa. And now they add this useless acronym NSA(No status Adjustment) and NES (No extended stay) when you get to your point of entry (JFK or IAH).

Finances: Are you worth at least 10million Naira, how much do u make and what do u do? If your sponsor is not supporting you. Because if your bro is sponsoring you, he must have at least $10k set aside for your upkeep and provide proof of that cash and income.

Parents have a better chance of travelling compared to siblings. It is that bad now. Like someone already said, if you want a green card, Nigeria will take up to 20 years. Compared to 50 to 60 years for India. Our own no too bad be that...lol

Side Note: if your bro is filing for you, better start learning some serious STEM discipline and be good at it, because that's the new admission criteria policy. Unofficial Merit base policy.

Goodluck and I pray your breakthrough manifest.

Your brother can sponsor you as sibling, but it will take a very long time before you will be granted
Re: Having A Brother As An American Citizen! What Are My Benefits? by essentialB(f): 8:52pm On Jan 13, 2020
He can file for you as his sibling to come over to US with green card but it will takes 12 to 18 years to mature.

Processing of such applications have grossly slowed down since Trump came on board with tough immigration policies.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been on queue for years waiting for their turn to be called for green card interview.

Your brother can file for you because years is just by mouth but it shouldn't make you fold your hands and not find something doing.
I wish you good luck.

There is huge benefit. If has a green card he can invite you using F4......

But the queue for F4 visa is so long it takes years to be approved. like 5 to 10 years...

I have a friend who moved into the US with his family, using f4 visa which he waited for so years...

You actually have benefits bro..
1) He can file a petition for your parents and they will get their greencard under a year and that way your parents can also file for you to get you own greencard while will take about 2 years
2)He can file a greencard petition for you directly as his brother but this actually take more time ,I think about 6 to 7 years
PS:Filing a petition for married children or children over 21 years of age takes longer than kids who are less than 21
If you're over 21 , I'll just advise you to take IELTS and migrate to Canada instead

Someone who is relying on his brother to relocate will be able to afford the costs involved in Canada's emigration process?

Me that my mother is a citizen since 5 years ago now I'm still here in Nigeria despite all efforts to migrate me..

But OP your chances of traveling to america one day is high since your brother is a citizen over there.

I hope you are not one of those that has been supporting Iran against america

Go through the right channels and that citizenship will surely come.

My cousins migrated peacefully just because one of them naturalized there not even born there sef.
